2023 Weight Loss Thread!

@Supermatch and @Chuckman are a bunch of enablers. ;)

My diet plan actually says I'm allowed 1.5oz of clear liquor, twice a week. So, Maybe. I mean I like the idea a lot, but I really don't want to lose any progress.
for the most part I anticipate I'll drink some bourbon or a couple beers a week but, like you, I just wanna watch the scale go down so that turns into a couple months with no alcohol, or 1-2 beers per month and It never feels like deprivation. I'm just paying it forward so I can call in some rides later :)

Me, my problem is I CAN absolutely destroy a bottle of whiskey/bourbon in a few days. A case of beer? Yeah, that lasts a week; maybe 2. But if I don't have it in the house, I don't really miss it. I also know about how much work I need to do to either offset in calorie burn or change my diet.

I'm pretty diligent about cutting out alcohol when kicking diets into gear, but I also find that once I've cut it out for maybe a month or so, I more or less lose interest in drinking any. It does have the added benefit of becoming a lightweight, which means I can relax with one drink instead of 3.

So, this is an important point: triggers. Everyone has them. I can drink; like I said, I know what to cut elsewhere or how much exercise I need to do. But my trigger is nighttime snacking. That's an easy 300 cals right there, sometimes more. That's a pound a week.

For sure if I eliminated drinking, especially beer, I'd keep more weight off more consistently. I just don't want to lol.

I have no problem skipping drinks, my trigger is getting home, for some reason just walking in the house makes me want a snack. I’m also burdened by the need to eat 5-10 meals out for work every week. Not drinking at those is easy, eating right is tough.

218 this morning.

I agree, eating out is tough. Not just the type of food, but the portions. I am an eat-in-all-at-once kinda guy and most restaurant portions are really two or more servings. I am better at this now, but can still get into trouble.

I have to order my meal with the take home box. Whatever is on my plate when I start eating gets consumed. If I halve it before I'm good just eating half, if I say I'll only eat half but don't seperate it first there no way it happening.

Despite being significantly more sedentary, I dropped something like 13 lbs once I started working from home and didn't have to travel regularly for work based on lunch and dinner alone, and I wasn't even considering what I was eating every day to be "bad".

This is something I really should start doing. Since being in Victoza slows digestion so much, I find that you pretty much have two choices - deliberately under-eat the meal at first and give it a few minutes to see if you feel full, or eat until you hit an instantaneous wall that makes you feel overstuffed/nauseous for hours. This would go a long way in preventing the latter for me.

You can still get fat eating "salads", ask me how I know.
Yep. The "black and bleu" from one of the local places was my favorite, which went heavy on the steak, blue cheese, and vinaigrette.

I'm embarrassed to admit I like someting at Chili's , but the quesadilla explosion salad just hits the right buttons for me. Back in Chicago Portillo's sold a chopped salad that was to die for too.

Been doing keto for almost a month, down about 10lbs (was at 200-205 dependingon the day). Moderately active, lifting with bowflex everday, but not seeing losses so added in the diet change.

anyway want to hit 170ish, it will be done

Trying to lose with just excercise is nealy impossible in my experience.

just not able to really get the heartrate up being that im in a call center job, so i lift in between calls. (part of the reason i started that when we were sent home, did not want to gain a ton)

and for those that may be interested, carb manager app has been great with tracking macros and calorie intake

Managing carbs is a great way; that and sugar, you will lose weight for sure.

Try some HIIT to crank up the ol' ticker. A set of 10 burpees in between calls or right after a lift. Just three sets of 10 a day will improve not only your CV but going high heart rate will augment lifting with a calorie burn.

for those struggling to find a way (my wife was badgering me when i started this, all the whatabout questions), i've found that just about everything you currently eat can be modified for keto. sweets, pizza, mashed potatos (made from cauliflower), its been a learning curve for sure but easier with all the fb groups out there that have recipes

good place to check some out to get anyone interested some ideas

Went to Firebirds and ordered the Colorado Chicken Salad earlier this week. Pretty sure the cheeseburger and fries had fewer calories and fewer carbs.

We do vodka and soda water with a lime twist. Every other one is just soda water and lime. Stretches it out over an evening but you still don’t miss the routine which for me is big component.

I could make that work. I have effectively replaced my diet soda vice with seltzer water anyways. I think I go through about 6 dozen cans a week of the stuff, since I HATE drinking regular water, but am trying to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible.

This reminded me of that funny Ron Swanson line from Parks & Rec:

But there's no shame in that. I do not like vodka, but I do like gin.

That's part of what kills me. I'm a huge Hendricks and tonic guy, and tonic water is no better than regular soda.
Make your own and you can limit the sugar. I use agave nectar it still has calories but nothing like the store bought stuff.

215, sure is slow going.
Have started rowing, that should help.

We had only only been drinking flavored water for the last five months.
We were introduced to nature's twist lemonade by a friend .
Sold at sam's club, it's 9.00 for a case of 24 bottles
Comes it lemonade which is 0 calories and strawberry lemonade which is 5 calories.
No oily aftertaste of most sugar free drinks

took my motorcycle out yesterday morning (chilly up here in sd), wore my leather jacket (size 46), which i bought larger to have room for layers. well omg i thought i put on someone else's jacket, the waist was that loose fitting, i'll have to snug up the laces on the side

Well today ended up being cheat day. Had two small potatoes with a little cheese and bacon for lunch. Skipped the afternoon snack I'm supposed to have. Then we hooked up with friends for dinner and things got ugly. I had an old fashioned, a glass of white table wine and a whole 14" pizza (except the outer crust). Oops.
We had planned to get Thai, but the friends brought the daughter with so Thai veggies got nixed for pizza.
