.

Be prepared for a multitude of answers as everyone has their own styles, wants and needs, which may not necessarily align with your own.

Not to try and dodge the question our sound patronizing, but may I suggest a little light reading? It might help you refine your questions a bit more.

Building an AR15 is not that hard if you have basic mechanical aptitude. You'll need to invest in some tools though.

What is your budget? What is your purpose for the rifle? all around? precision shooting off a mat? hunting? home defense?

Options depend on budget. If you buy:

Quality cheaper
S&W
Delton

More Expensive
Colt
Sig
Spikes

higher end
Daniel Defense
BCM
Barnes Precision Machine - Love mine

If you build:
Aero Precision is a great brand known for good quality at a good price and they make just about everything
tool craft bcg's
ballistic advantage barrels

The biggest thing is to think honestly about what you want to do with it and this is the hardest question if you are new to AR's.
A good all around rifle would be 16" barrel, midlength gas system, free float forward rail, the stock/grip etc of your choice.
I prefer melonite or stainless barrels to chrome lined.

I suggest you start out with something like these kits. Build it. Get to know the Rifle and how it works. Shoot it for a few months. Learn what you like and dislike, then upgrade as you see fit.

This. Either get a kit, or perhaps complete upper/lower. Or get a complete rifle. Then upgrade as needed. I would NOT build your first one unless you have a close friend or family member who is an "AR guy" to guide you.

My AR guy started talking options and my head started spinning. I grew up with guns, just not ARs.

I went with a good quality complete upper and a good quality complete lower. If I need to upgrade something later I'll follow the advice of my AR guy.

Awesome thanks;
Which one do you think superior for all around?
Also I most likely sound pretty dumb asking, but is it missing a lower? Will I have to purchase one separate
You would have to buy a stripped lower.
I went with the one with the full length handguard, just because you have mounting options for accessories.

Define your purpose, then narrow your choices.

Any answer you get above is meaningless until YOU define your purpose.

And, "get to know the platform" is a perfectly legit purpose. But, if you have some specific use in mind that will determine your purchase.

Okay cool, just double checking I have all the parts needed
Actually you’ll only assemble the lower receiver ... the upper will come assembled in the “kit”. You can get by with basic tools on the lower if you absolutely had too but there are a couple tools that make it way easier.

I don't know if the ones you are looking at there at PSA have a warranty or not but the S&W M&P has a lifetime warranty for the original purchaser.

They're fun to build. There's about 300 video tutorials on how to do this.

Lifetime, and transferable.

Full Lifetime Warranty

Firearms and parts manufactured by Palmetto State Armory are backed by our Full Lifetime Warranty. Our PSA manufactured firearms and parts are warranted to be free from defects in materials and craftsmanship for the serviceable lifetime of the firearm or part. The liability of Palmetto State Armory under this warranty shall be limited solely to the obligation to repair the defect or replace the firearm/part at its discretion, and to pay transportation and insurance charges for return of the firearm to the owner for a rightful warranty claim. This warranty is transferable for the serviceable lifetime of the firearm or part. Modification of firearm will void this warranty. This warranty does not cover ordinary wear and tear or any damage resulting from careless handling, neglect, repairs or adjustments, improper, substandard, reloaded or defective ammunition, corrosion, or other unreasonable use of the firearm or part.

That's better than S&W being that it's transferable. I have a PSA AR pistol that I put together and have never looked at the warranty.

After you put the lower together.
you need a hammer, punch set and a AR wrench. Helps to have a vice and block but you don’t have to have it.
takes 15 - 30 minutes to put together.

just FYI, you will have to have the lower sent to a FFL

What’s this all about?

What’s this all about?
I have Zero experience with 80% lowers. Maybe someone else can tell you about them

I would buy a complete AR for my first one but that's just me. Preferably a used one from here because you don't have to fill out a 4473.

That looks like a good start to me. 👍
Thanks for the reply, which do you think would be a better start, that, or just getting this complete and upgrading as I go?

I have never heard of lead star, they are a South Carolina company, maybe one of the South Carolina Fellers can weigh in on them?
