1983 K5 blazer. 305. Put a new fuel pump (stock mechanical) on and now the threaded fitting between the fuel pump and the feed line to the carb is leaking. I fully believe the old pump to be original. The fitting is leaking. It’s flared and threaded. I am under the belief if it’s flared, there is no oring. I’ve heard the opposite as well from two others. What’s correct? I’ve snugged it down and it still leaks. I have no desire to source a new line from the pump to carb.

Any suggestions? Is there a fuel rated thread sealing tape?

Thanks for your help guys and gals!!!

It’s a flare fitting so no oring required. Any Teflon tape or in a jam a piece of a plastic trash bag would work. However the flare is what is supposed to do the sealing not the threads. With QC what it is today it may very well be machined wrong.

NO TAPE! You do not want to burn your ride up.
Best I can tell from the pictures, the pump may not be a match. The pipes flared and should rest on a taper. The pump looks like it’s cut square for an o-ring.
Here’s a crude drawing, from the top, flared line, current pump female fitting, what the flare should seal to.

If you still have the old pump clean off the mounting flange and you should find the OE number. The parts store should be able to interchange it and see if that is what you bought. Can possibly google it as well but those results aren’t always accurate.

Is that a TBI motor? GM used a metric o ring fitting on fuel lines for most TBI motors to my knowledge, but that flared end looks wrong.

Take a picture of the flare using your phones magnifier. If the pump is correct, I’m willing to bet that flare cracked from being over tightened.
