To all NFL Players that feel it necessary to protest during the playing of the National Anthem.

Really? Do you think that’s a proper venue?? A football game where I’m free to change the channel, or get up and walk out?? And if I do either it takes away the money that supports the game. Do you have a clue where your multi million-dollar salary comes from?? When any player falls from grace with the public do you not understand that the products you endorse also take a hit and will eventually go away and give endorsements to less controversial players?? Obviously you can’t think that far into the future.

You have the right to protest anything you desire, it’s guaranteed within the Constitution but picking the time when our National Anthem is being played isn’t the correct time. Is that the only time when you can be assured of camera time?? Can’t you get any airtime by yourself?? News stations won’t cover your personal demonstrations one on one because no one really cares, can’t you see that?? Obviously not.

If I were an owner I would need to remind you of a couple of things. The workplace isn’t the time or place for your personal expressions. When you put on my uniform and stand on my side of the field, that is the office and whatever you do reflects on me as well as the rest of the team that may, or may not share your views. How long do you think you would be employed in the private sector displaying that attitude and actions?? Not long.

You claim to hold yourself as a role model, look closely in the mirror. Disrespecting the American Flag and the Anthem and all veterans that suffered and died for it represents the utmost disrespect that a human can show. Would you like your children to behave in the same manner?? I would like to think not, I know I wouldn’t.

In closing, you have taken a pleasant pastime and turned it into your personal platform. Do you really think you’re that special?? Do you really think people tuned in to see you disrespect the objects of this country?? Think again…….

And Paperdick is still without a contract. :D
But hes ranked like number 21! /sarcasm

Not a football or sports fan in general, but seriously...Screw all those guys.

Dear Mr. Goodell:

I am writing as a person who has fan allegiance to a specific team, but as one who would normally watch a full week of NFL games regardless of team (Monday, Thursday, Sunday and, of course, the Saturday games later in the season).

There were many statements issued from representatives of the NFL, NFL owners, and NFL players during this past weekend expressing the indignation around President Trump’s Friday remarks concerning the protest of some NFL players during the National Anthem.

Many of these statements commented on the divisive nature of the President’s comments, claiming that he has turned the act of standing at attention during the anthem into something political. I disagree entirely. You all instigated the divisiveness by permitting the actions of some of the players during the National Anthem. The President did not in any way turn this into something political – you all did! And I see and hear that some players, along with the media, are now “spinning” the whole thing into a race issue. I find that entirely ridiculous and further evidence of the NFL attempting to politicize the situation it has itself created. And, I am not a particular fan of Donald Trump.

The NFL players are hired to do a job, just like any of us. However, I don’t protest or attempt to be an activist for my own personal beliefs during my work time – I do my job. Commissioner Goodell commented on the tremendous force of good these players are for their communities. Fine – they have been given a tremendous gift and it is great that some of them give back. Perhaps you should also realize that “normal” people volunteer, donate, etc. No, they don’t have the same visibility as a NFL star, but millions of average people out there are a force of good as well.

What you all have failed to realize is that many of us are not questioning the rights of players to express whatever beliefs they happen to embrace. However, I take issue with players deciding to do this during game time (i.e., work time). And I take issue with the NFL owners who permit this behavior. I especially take issue with Commissioner Goodell, who apparently upholds expressions of disrespect for our great country as something exemplary.

I entirely disagree with players who refuse to show respect during the National Anthem. I believe they have complete ignorance regarding what it means to enjoy the freedoms of living in America. In what other country can ANYONE realize a dream to play a game for millions of dollars a year? To rise from poverty to unbelievable heights? To overcome any obstacle in their upbringing and achieve greatness? No other country permits such freedom of expression that citizens can publicly denigrate its leader without consequence? For these reasons, all players should be proud to respect the National Anthem and show their pride at belonging to such a great country. Disrespect of our flag and anthem also disrespects all those who have given their lives to ensure our rights to support whatever causes we choose.

Because of the principles that this country is based upon, I do not suggest that NFL players cannot protest or be activists for whatever cause they deem important. However, this should be on their own time!!! Instead, you have permitted these players to hijack NFL games for their own political agendas.

With the NFL’s stance (or lack thereof) on overt evidence of domestic violence, fines for players attempting any patriotic expressions, and selective punishment decrees for players, I found myself becoming less enthusiastic about watching NFL games. And after the position that you all have taken over this past weekend, I am finally done with the NFL …

As a final note, if I do decide to channel surf during game time, I will make sure to take note of which companies are advertising during NFL games and be certain not to patronize them.

Sincerely,

speaking of open letters, Taya Kyle also wrote one:

Dear NFL,

You were doing your part to bring people together and heal the world. That’s really how healing works. We heal by loving each other and leading by example; showing people what is possible when we love each other just as we are and not only recognize our differences but celebrate them and look at how we can use them together to make us jointly better than our separate parts. You were doing your part celebrating each other based on skills, talent and a joint vision without regard to color and religion.

You were doing your part and we were doing ours. We showed up cheering and groaning together to as one. We talked in the concession lines and commiserated and celebrated our team together. Did it ever occur to you that you and we were already a mix of backgrounds, races and religions? We were already living the dream you want, right in front of you.

Your desire to focus on division and anger has shattered what many people loved most about the sport. Football was really a metaphor for our ideal world -- different backgrounds, talents, political beliefs and histories as one big team with one big goal -- to do well, to win, TOGETHER.

Your desire to focus on division and anger has shattered what many people loved most about the sport. Football was really a metaphor for our ideal world -- different backgrounds, talents, political beliefs and histories as one big team with one big goal -- to do well, to win, TOGETHER.

You are asking us to abandon what we loved about togetherness and make choices of division. Will we stand with you? Will we stand with our flag? What does it mean? What does it mean if we buy a ticket or NFL gear? What does it mean if we don’t? It is the polar opposite of the easy togetherness we once loved in football.

It was simple – we loved you and you loved us – with all of our races, religions, different backgrounds and politics. Simplicity in a crazy world was pretty awesome.

You dear NFL, have taken that. You have lost me here.

If you ever want to get off your knees and get to work on building bridges, let me know. I have found screaming about the problems in service marriages or even standing in silence in front of them, hasn’t healed even one of them.

On the other hand, funding the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation, building a team and rolling up my sleeves to get in the trenches during my “off time” -- volunteering there outside of my paying jobs -- has proven to make real change.

You have a lot of strong guys, I am sure in the off season a lot of them could build some pretty big bridges if they care enough to do the hard work. That would involve getting off their knees and getting to work though. If I can do it while I raise two kids as their only parent and work through the greatest pain of my life, let’s see if they can do it for the issues they say they care so much about.

Go Longhorns and Sic ‘Em …

Sincerely,

Taya
