April/May 2023 22Lr Rimfire 50 yd Challenge

With a little less then a month to go heres the current standings of all that have posted perfect scores and then the tie breakers.
#1 @Litl_Red 260 x10
#2 @oldemanhub 260 x 9
#3 @Eric F 260 x 8
#4 @Got2hav1 & @Pbj ak @1gohunt 260 x 7
#5 @Amps 13 260 x 6

Really impressive shooting gentleman. The shooters who did not get on this list are so close too.
A few months ago I couldn’t even get close to these guys but a little work and a change up of equipment along with listening to the pros tips and I am not as much of an embarrassment.
Let’s hope this wind dies down and we can get back out…
Great competition everyone. Amps has amped up his game. I see a better score in your future. Litl_Red we aren't finished yet.

Was able to get in some range time till the pollen chased me out. I was able to beat my best score (7 0’s) by one so a productive day. Forgot to take pick of setup so will include from before.
CZ 457 with Vortex Viper glass
shot one target with CCI standard (surprisingly) and the other was with SK Standard.

I went to the Range Saturday too. My shooting wasn't as good as your new score. No pictures taken but ammo wasn't waisted. I considered it a learning trip but I didn't learn to much about wind. Out of 3 different ammo, Norma Tac 22, Norma Match and Center X, I shot my best 5 shot group (.524) with tac 22.

I haven’t given up hope on Tac 22 being a player yet but I just haven’t shot well with it up to this point.

I have shot my best groups with Lapua Center X, Norma Rifle Match and SK Long Range in that order. I had cleaned my rifle barrel with Bore Tech the night before and I shot about 15 rounds of Blazer ammo to foul the barrel. It was kinda windy with the wind blowing about 7+ right in my face. It was late afternoon and the Sun was right in my face too. It didn't seem to matter what I shot I would have a couple of shots close together then 3 flyers. I shot the Clays aiming only at the Zeros but never made it past 4 targets. I guess we have a 4 way tie at 7. I hope to try it again but have an Factory IR match coming up this Friday evening.

I recently set up 50 yards in my back yard to site in my scopes and shoot a little. Shooting off a folding bench right now. Working on a more stable bench. My CZ 457 with MDT XRS Chassis, Athlon 6x24 scope and Lilja barrel, using SK Long Range. This was my 3rd target, but finally got all the 0's.

Thanks. Still lots of time left in this challenge. I would say that Litl_Red has the better target, using a vintage Kimber. I hope to bring out something different this week and will post results good or bad.

Alotta time but little hope for some of us. Dang fine shooting by you all.

Got out today to mostly see if this Tuner thing worked on not. At the end of some testing I was able to shoot one target.
I got a solid 8 0’s and so close to being a 9. Though maybe someone will argue it’s a hit.

Looking good!!! Shots were consistent. So close. Hope you are enjoying it. I have been considering a tuner again as well, but got to narrow down some ammo first.

I was going to shoot it today, but forgot the printer is still not working. So, instead I went out and tested some Eley Team and Black lots that I have on some targets that I already had printed. The Black seems to shoot well no matter what lot it is. New printer is on the way, so hopefully I can get in a target before the end of the month.

Still not sure I have found the ammo that is going to get all 10 0’s. There has been some good shooting by everyone this month.

Have been some amazing shooting this go around. Usually we have 2-3 stacked at the top with no real hole for the others. This time I think we have around 4-5 all up near the top with others not out of it either.

Really like your set up. Not sure about tuners. Eley ammo and a CZ built like yours should be enough. Can't blame the bench, it looks rock solid. So close to perfect. Nice shooting.

Thanks. Not sure about em either but got it for 1/2 price so gave it a try. I definitely think it does something. Attached is the testing I did with Eley Match. I think you can see which setting worked the best. I shot our target right after this. I feel the groups were changing as I rotated the tuner. But who knows!
I gotta do something to try and keep up with you jackal’s. Maybe try witchcraft next week…

They work! Having owned a CZ 455 with a Lilja and settling on Eley Black, I can confirm that they work.
The rifle I did it with went from averaging .5’s with factory barrel, to .3’s with Lilja, to .2’s with the tuner and same exact lot. I’m talking 6x5 average and not cherry picked groups. I had pulled off a few without it, but it consistently performed better with the tuner.

There is a reason real benchrest guys use them on even more exotic setups. All depends on what you are trying to squeak out of it. Sure it isn’t needed for a 2moa metal target at 50 yards, but if you are trying to hit the x every time every time, you take every ounce of improvement in consistency you can find.

4 days left with @Litl_Red and @Eric F tied with perfect targets. Weather not helping any of us who want a last chance.

We will start a different target each month for at least the rest of the summer and probably the fall. try to keep targets fresh.

Athlon Argos BTR 6 x 24. I have a couple of these on my CZ's. Keeps the cost low to be in base class for NRL 22. I just need to swap the trigger back to stock. I hope to compete someday, but Sunday matches don't fit in my schedule.

Well, I decided to get out today and test the SK ammo that just came in, as I try to figure out what my CZ likes too.

STD+ was ok. As usual, it isn’t anything you can compete with with you need to hit tiny targets over and over.
Rifle Match was really good as it usually is.
Longe Range Match was pretty good too, but I think Rifle Match may have been better. Not enough shots to know yet.

Was shooting for zeros. None are winners. 1 has all the targets but only 9 0’s.

1 Long Range Match target. All the targets, but missed 1 zero.

2 Rifle Match targets - each target had a bad miss on a 40. Mistakes on the shooter, not the ammo or rifle. Knew it on both. I was feeling great on both those targets. I thought for sure one of those was going to be perfect, but I blew them.

Shooting my CZ 457 in KRG Bravo with Shilen barrel and Timney trigger. Took out the bird shot from the butt and put weights on the front instead. Bipod and rear bag. Been trying out my uncle’s shooting table but prefer my homemade one. No room on the skinny shooting tables.

Good shooting!

Very nice shooting. SK Long Range has been my favorite ammo in my CZs, but I like to try other ammo just to see if there is something better.

It’s basically the 12th hour. Waiting to see if anyone got out today to take down our leaders. If you are in the lead right now start thinking about a target for June. I will post winner of this challenge and then start a June thread after.

Wind as calm about 7 here as have seen for a while. Took Martini out to try and get the 10 "0"'s. The bottom right is so very close, but champion choice eagle eye scored it as good, then used a plug scorer and it was good also. I shall take it. Last hour.

Late hour post but a great target to be sure. Looks like 3 had perfect scores. Thanks for making my job even harder to figure this out.

Would like to thank all of our shooters for participating. I haven’t been shooting here for that long but I believe this is the tightest challenge we've had. The amount of shooters all bunched up at the top was quite amazing.
The final tally:
1st @Litl_Red , @Eric F and @oldemanhub w/ 260 x10
2nd @Smok3y w/ 260 x 9
3rd Amps13. w/ 260 x 8
4th @Got2hav1 , @Pbj ak and @#1gohunt w/ 260 x 7

With 3 great shooters all getting perfect scores and no time to have a better tie breaker I had to decide who the winner was. This was done by counting the amount of hits they had that broke the inside line of the zeros. If any of the 3 feel I counted wrong please let me know.

Tiebreaker:
@Litl_Red 8
@Eric F 7
@oldemanhub 5

Our winner for April/May Challenge is @Litl_Red! Congratulations and you have the joy of picking our new target for June. Yup, To keep things interesting and not get tired of one target for two months we are going to one target a month for a little while.
Keep an eye out for the new June rimfire challenge post.

Wow this was an easy looking target, but looks can fool you. It left me a little confused.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in this challenge. I am looking forward to a new target and some good weather.

Great shooting guys!

Good job fellows. Hope to be back with you soon. Health is good. Have a cardiologist appointment on Monday hoping he will release me from rehab and I can get back to the bench and punch out some Xs.
