Got an early morning session in at Leeds today and had a malfunction I've never seen before. I was shooting my CMMG Banshee radial delayed AR9 and it was failing to return to battery, tried forward assist to no avail. Realized the bolt was not seating in the barrel extension. After doing some troubleshooting I realized A spent casing somehow turned upside down and lodged itself above the bolt carrier group between the carrier key and the charging handle lug. I was eventually able to get it out with some needle nose pliers and a pick, but it was lodged in there pretty solid. Anyone run into this before? Afterwards I dumped a 30 rd mag full down range and it performed without issue, so seemingly no damage or reoccurrence, but very strange nonetheless

Looks dry as a popcorn fart in there.
May want to make sure you have some grease or oil in there.
If crap gets into the extracter and it does not move freely the ejector can do wild things with Brass.

That type malfunction is common in blow back/recoil type platforms. The CMMG 22 is prone to that and they made a special CH to keep it from happening.

Guy at gunsmithing school had a tec 22 that would occasionally eject spent shells backwards inside the gun behind the bolt into the lower reciever. The shells would build up the lower but not affect function (im sure they would get into the fire controls eventually). He could shoot a full mag and only have 9 or 10 cases on the ground and then take gun apart and dump the rest of the empties out.

Sorry this happened to you. A banshee is a much nicer gun. Like others have said, try oiling and a different ammo brand. If no malfunctions in a couple hundred rounds, I'd call it good. Like timfoilhat said the thought of "what if" would sit with me until i could get some more rounds through it.

Btw the guy gave up on the tec 22 and sold it for $90 at a gunshow.

Now I'm wondering if I can pour some resin in my standard cheapo handle to get the same result..... Because it looks like there is just filled.

You can but you need to use a dremel to get it to stick and use JBWeld.
The Standard CMMG is plastic but the Banshee 22 SBR comes with one that is aluminum and ambi charging. Plastic were like 20 when I got several. Sure other companies make them.

Maybe I can use a piece of Plastruct rod instead....

Apparently I can.

is 9mm brass to short to just mortar it out like what works for 5.56?

Looks like what I need for my Ceiner .22 kit. About every 30 fired cases gets one stuck above the bolt and stops the action.

I use the CMMG CH and it fixed my problems. I had a colt kit that it did not work on but all the CMMG and Off brands worked.
