Bad range day!

I guess I'm not very intimate with my guns. I clean them and move on! I'll try to pay better attention to the various parts.

Ya been gun racin'.... Ya gotta service it between races...!! lol

Ok, I don't want to seem stubborn (though Billy says I am), but why would the 7 rounders all of a sudden start acting up? I've had two of those going for 7 months or so, and they decide to get squirrelly now? It has to be me, not the gun/magazines/ammo....but I don't know what I'm doing differently today. (Well, I'm a year older, but that can't be it, right?)
Shoot the six rounder and see how it does. You have to rule out one thing at a time.

Ha! Had to go to Charleston a while back for work and was thinking of Billy’s bunk house and guns the whole drive. Between one kid’s v-ball trips, college hunting for the other and trying to get to W. Jeff for relaxation I haven’t had time for anything. Even range time. But the days are getting longer and that is going to change. I think I have a plan. Once it is confirmed you and Billy will be getting a PM. I need to get abused my his drills and range to develop a baseline.
Just waiting on him, to be sure he really wants me to come, and what time, and what I should bring! I love that guy!

I hate to do it to you, but the 6 rounder was the one in there when the problems began, followed by 2 of the 7 rounders, at which point I had to quit!

Can't tell you why. I can only tell you that ALL of my 7 rd mags are in the drawer of holster making mags. I refuse to use them anymore. As soon as I went to the 6 rd mags the gun was flawless. It didn't take 7 months, but it did take a few range trips to start noticing it. If you want to keep using them start keeping a mental track of what you are using when you have the problems. And number the mags so you can track which ones are acting up. If it's a mag issue.

Well, what you want and what may actually be reality might be 2 different things. Don’t be afraid to try different guns and change your plan. I love 1911’s, but I suck at drawing them, releasing the safety and shooting them. So I carry guns I can actually use and shoot 1911’s at the range for fun. It took me some time to admit all that, but that is my reality. Maybe the little safety gun isn’t your true best carry gun. No big deal. Lots of guns out there. Go see Billy and shoot lots of guns. You’ll figure it out. At least a dozen times. Then you’ll find a happy place.
Yeah, I'll keep plugging away at it! Billy thinks the safety might not be for me, and I told Billy if he can find me a big heavy plastic gun that has the recoil of my 9mm 1911, I'll switch up. I'm willing to change. I realize I need to have a reliable carry gun, but I really thought the p238 was it.....and it was, till today...lol...

The answer is always CZ. :D

I'll number those things after I clean them up tomorrow, and I'll take notes on Thursday.

Ok, I've been shooting this gun for many months, how come my wrist is all of a sudden limp? Surely I can't have forgotten how to shoot this gun, I shoot it every week. Lol.
I guess it could be, but I have no trainer anymore to look at my grip and shooting now.

Its common really.

Your confidence is gaining, your physical handling of a trusted gun gets a bit lax and BAM limp wristing.

What limp wristing is, is, not having a ridged body mechanics to allow the gun to operate. Lighter guns, smaller hands, "less mass" allows this to happen.

Now that you are not spooked by the loud bangs, it is time to revisit the Px4 compact/compact carry. You didn’t enjoy shooting it early in your search, but it truly is lower recoil than other 9mm.

My shooting buddy might try to come and get some film of me shooting Thursday, and maybe we can figure this out.
I really hope we can do this, and see what I'm doing/not doing, so I can stop stressing over this! Lol. It has to be me, not the gun.

I'm willing to re-visit, I'll have to google it, as I have no idea which one it was.

I seem to have another list o' guns going, and I'll add this to it. Thanks. I do remember the bangs making me jump a lot! Now I like the big boom!

Do what I do. Play with the 1911's and 1911 style guns at the range and at matches.
But carry a Glock.

As a comparison to your Sig, the Glock 380 is lighter by 3 ounces, and is a only little longer in the slide, otherwise very similar, and won't give you problems.

Same here, though my 1911 has been ignored for a couple years in favor of my single action revolvers. I was all set to like the G36, but I've got pretty big mitts & it just felt too narrow & uncomfortable. Love my G26. Fits my hand perfectly & very soft shooting.

I tried a G42, but that was a while ago, maybe it'll be better now. When did I try the 43? I had guns coming at me all that day in January. Did I do well and did I like it?
I have a preference for a bigger gun, but a tiny one is easier to conceal, and less recoil is what I need. If it's snappier than the Sig, I probably won't like it. The p238 is my "snap tolerance" guide!
Am I again looking for a carry gun????? Noooooooooo......

See if you can try a G26. I've got the +1 floor plates in the stock mags. Very easy to shoot well & has never failed to go bang after thousands of rounds with minimal cleaning. The Ruger SR9C is also a nice option in that range. Not too big, not too small.

My wife loves her Walther CCP. G19-ish in size, but with only 8+1 on tap. One of the softest shooting 9mm pistols I've ever shot. It has a thumb safety, if that matters to you & it works in the same direction as your 1911 & P238.

I would look into your grip as much as anything else... and get a Glock.

You don't have to spend a bunch of money and ammo practicing. Dry fire should be a bigger part of your training at this point anyway. Practice your draw, aiming, and trigger work dry. Build your muscle memory. If you don't have a consistent grip and trigger discipline, all the live fire and different guns in the world won't help you get better or overcome your issues.

A thumb safety is a plus for me, though I know some don't agree I need one, but I like them.
Adding all these to the new list! Thanks. Here we go again, it seems.....

LIAR!!!!! There is a massive difference in Not shooting them well and Not liking them. Your main complaint here about Gs was the lack of a safety. You shot the g43 wonderfully.
I was looking to get a G19 when I started shooting all the guns!
I admit I do like a thumb safety. Sue me. Lol.
I guess you'll have some great guns for me to try out again on Sunday? Such as the G43, perhaps?

So you just need to find the Grock that you shoot well and have a thumb safety installed, then everybody's happy!

Forgot to mention the SR9C also has a safety. For a little bitty 9mm with a safety, I love my LC9s, but it feels a bit snappier than the chunkier & more comfortable G26 or SR9c.

Millie,

Suggest you take the everything that gave you issues back to the range. But this time loadt one round in the mag, chamber that round, fire and see if it extracts. Next do the same thing with strong hand only and then repeat with weak hand only. Gun should extract and lock the slide open each drill. Next repeat with two rounds in the magazine. Each time diagnose your stance, grip, sight picture, breathing and trigger squeeze ie fundamentals. Then report your findings. You should be able to determine if ammo, gun or you.

We will have Millie, Johnny, and the regular bunch Sunday. All who wish to come be here around 1 oclock. Millie, I will have G26 and 43 and 17 for you to shoot. You seem to prefer the larger heavier gun so we will start with the 17, then 26, then 43. I think as Crazy Carl suggests the width of the 26 grip might mitigate the recoil for you.
As usual ALL are welcome.
The Wizard has assured me he will be glad to see one and all.
Now ButtonPusher is IN!!!

I'll be happy to try out any guns you think I might like. I'd like to try the Wizard one day, if I ever find a gun that I can shoot without it having problems. Lol.

This is the list I have going from my thread so far:

Walther CCP and PPS
Glock 30s (apparently a .45)
G26 and 43
Px4 compact/compact carry
Ruger SR9c
Some CZs have been mentioned
I'll see what's on offer at the range tomorrow.

Shall I bring my 2 guns as is, or do you want them all cleaned up? I don't think it has any bearing on the problems, as they happen when the guns are all spiffy and when they're not....

Holeee crap
Weld up the frame and ribs for a greenhouse...do they call Mike the welder?
Noooo
Install emergency light system in a shop...do they call me Mike the electrician?
Noooo
But, you buy one freakin Glock.....

Lmao
@Jeppo
@CZfool68
Not to worry, they'll turn their attention to me if I end up with a Glock. You'll be off the hot seat in a bit, maybe!

Is it possible that you were holding the gun a little bit lower on the grip? Make sure the web of your hand is as high on the grip as can be. Placement of the hands is very important in the gripping of a pistol. Remember to lock your wrists and as battery Oaks Billy says watch that offhand thumb.

Millie, Let me tell no matter what the issue is, gun, ammo or you don't let it discourage you. We ALL have bad days at the range. Its part of the sport of shooting. You have come a long way from when you got started and you are improving everytime you shoot, take this as a learning curve figue out what the problem is and move forward.:)

@Millie

You need a super reliable single action Coonan .357 auto. It can share ammo with your revolver and since you like fireballs.

I'll move forward in any case...I just hope the 1911 9mm and the p238 go with me!! I love those guns.

My hand is high on the gun, my left thumb is on the frame where it meets the trigger guard, I have a spot for that! My right thumb is on the safety.

I feel like my grip is all good, nice and firm but not squeezing the hell out of the gun to where my hands hurt/shake, and my wrists are good, arms straight.....
I hope the guys a Battery Oaks can see what I can't....

Your not gonna like the recoil on any of them.

Dang, just pee on my parade, why don't ya! lol.

If they have equal or less recoil than the p238, I'll be okay. I'm fine with a little snap, I just don't like getting my hand broken!

When my guns stop working, rather than buy a new gun I fix it.

The 238 is a nice little gun. If it stopped working, and you’ve shot it a lot, it likely just needs spring and a deep cleaning of slide/face/extractor.

I carry Glocks and like them. They are fine. But if my CZ runs into issues after thousands of rounds on stock springs, I am not going to trade it for a Glock 19, lol. Not a chance in hell!
CZ’s most realible guns I have owned. But they get dirty, springs wear out, and maintainance needs to be done.....just like with a Glock.

Just my opinion!

I'm going to do all I can to fix both of my guns, I'm not buying a new gun yet. Lol. I have cleaned them, but maybe not well enough. I just did it how I was shown, and I'm sure that's plenty, assuming I'm doing it right, of course.

And I have shot them a lot, so maybe we'll find out it is springs or something like that. I really hope so! I don't want to give up these guns. But if I can't make them reliable, then I'll have to reconsider my options at some point.

Your left thumb should NOT touch the gun. It breaks what is called "neutrality" with the gun. If your left wrist is cammed over properly, your left thumb will point towards your target but not touch the gun.

This is a decent view of proper left hand/thumb placement.
( No need to play video.. The first image is used for left hand demo purposes.. )

Ok, I guess I have half of it right, because my left thumb does point towards the target! I'll have to work on the other half.....I guess nobody saw my left thumb all these months.
