There have been many off the rails discussions. In any case don't discount the round. Lots of good hunting has been done with it. It is a very popular cartridge for medium sized game.I do appreciate any advice. Like I said, my only interest was in subsonic from a "pistol" sized AR. The same suppressor that will be on the 300BO will also be on my AR10 with a thermal for eventual night hunting. I have SEVERAL loads I want to work up for that AR10. My ONLY plan for the 300BO is as a bedside and back yard gun. If I want something that will turn hog lungs into mush, it won't be the 300BO.
I am glad to have opened my first, "off the rails", post here on this forum though. There should be a medal for that.
I wouldn't say I've discounted it, just using it for one purpose. I expect a true 308 would be a much better hunting round. My larger fear of hunting with a lesser round (even 5.56) is a more likely unethical kill. "More likely" being the key word. The option to "turn up" the 300BO will always be there. At which point I'll come back and ask about loading up 125gr super rounds. That's also why I love the AR base platform. I can change a barrel out in 30 minutes and have a whole different gun. Look into the 110’s, there’s a marked difference over the 125’s. I have anchored a couple large deer with Hornady 125g SST’s.I wouldn't say I've discounted it, just using it for one purpose. And never have to be trimmed 😍Another thought...... Subs are low pressure rounds......the brass should last SEVERAL loadings.
Yep I highly recommend the 110gr Barnes Tac-tx for supersonic 300 blkout. Are dead animal pictures allowed here? I have a great photo from a hunt a year back I love to show when anyone asks me if 300 blackout is good for hunting.Look into the 110’s, there’s a marked difference over the 125’s.
