Trying their damnedest to make the story more interesting than it was. Race have negative percent to do with this, yet it’s the lead off batter for this “story.”
Single LEO ... use of less than lethal force is a very subjective judgment ... two LEO’s I’d say sure but a single responder if a LTL tool fails it opens up another opening to transition back to his duty weapon which puts him at risk.He could have sprayed her or tazed her from the safety of the counter. There was zero danger at that point.
I agree with you. This could have been handled without deadly force. Although legally speaking the shoot was legal. The elements of ability, opportunity and jeopardy were met. That cop's a *****... Good shoot? Questionable at best... Old woman with scissors? She turns the corner with her arms out and he opens fire? Police training is a joke. Why even carry mace and a taser? He drew down on her from across the desk when she was no threat at all. Good thing he was black and she was white or there'd be a riot in Louisiana right now...
Her own damn fault and I'm not sad the crazy lady is dunzo but he instigated it and could have easily shut her down non-lethally. Piss poor...
Well said!My grandpa used to say folks who always stir the sh*t pot are eventually gonna have to lick the spoon.
Well it goes like this....And on the first day God created...…...more to follow....Yeah, I’d like to know the_ entire_ story.
One short blast to her face with a fire extinguisher,
that would take the fire out of her.
Don't like the officer telling her he will kill her, s/b
I'm going to shoot you and you will be in extreme pain.
Recall an officer in similar situation outdoors, he shot her in the leg, he retreated across a parking lot.
The police case that I think Button Pusher is talking about looked to be fairly unusual. First, it was a cop who, from what I read, is an extremely serious shooter--trains, competes, knows what he can do, etc. The criminal was armed with a screwdriver, and the cops tased her. She did not respond to the taser. The cop finally took kneecap shots to bring her down, but she was standing still at that time. He actually wound up missing a shot because she started to go down. Here's a question I'd have about shooting in the leg etc - could a person sue for damages/harm with police?
Iknow in the NC CCP course they mention something about it for citizens, wasnt sure about LEO
That part, and that he has his gun drawn down on her at that point, causes me some AOJ questions, that I will weigh against the fact that it's a video that gives us a partial understanding of the scene and situation. I will also say that I believe that the rules for lethal force, especially when it can be considered a form of defensive shoot, should be the same as they would for any other person and I dislike how often we see in videos cops drawing on people that were the situation reversed would be considered assault with a deadly weapon. We're I on a jury for such as case, those AOJ questions would be quite pertinent in how I viewed the actions.Looking at this scissors situation, with the big ol counter in between the cop and the woman (at first), I would have to agree with others here that the situation seems to have called for a less than lethal attempt or two before she decided to move around the counter and charge at him. That's a good part of why I carry pepper spray and practice with inert trainers.
I am surprised to have just learned that this cop I mentioned above, though cleared by his department, has been suspended for four years from serving as a cop. Evidently, a judge has done this although no charges have been filed? I don't get it, but then I'm just a guy on a computer.

Funny thing about the news report. It says repeatedly that this woman wasn't an "eminent" threat. True. She was only a fair to middling threat. But she was still an imminent threat, I'd say. Here's the video.
That actually was the best thing he could have said in the situation. Sometimes it takes a good shock to derail their thought process.Don't like the officer telling her he will kill her, s/b
I dont know if it helped or not, but it seemed to set her off. Those words looked like the ones that sent her to attack mode (before, a lot of threats and pointing the scissors). That actually was the best thing he could have said in the situation. Sometimes it takes a good shock to derail their thought process.
I just see where the training has taken our peace officers to a point of where they cannot handle any situation without resorting to their firearm.
6'4 240 lb male with scissors? Yeah... that could be a serious threat to life and limb.
5'4 130 lb female with scissors? Definitely at most a taser, better to use a baton and better still, just beat the shit out of her and cuff her.
I am with you on psycho-bitch type attacks ... the biting and scratching at the face is also the worst to me.The few fights I have seen I would rather fight the 6'4 dude. Women are Fing Crazy as hell. I've seen a 100 pound woman fight and take 4-5 guys to get her under control. My opinion of this situation is as soon as she didn't put those scissors down from the other side of counter she should have been sprayed. Once she comes around that corner though it's fair game shoot away.
