Buncombe County Sheriff candidate

Damn I was mad when I watched that video. So I posted this on his FB feed.

"I dont live in Buncombe County. I live in Surry County, and saw your Twitter feed on the gun subject. Im not some backwoods hick, chewing my baccer and spitting out the window. I am a professional and currently pursuing a Masters Degree. With a 25 year history in Emergency Services, I have seen a tremendous amount of terrible things in my life time. But it utterly disgusts me to see another politician stand at a podium and blather on about another hot topic, awaiting to get the audience to feed off of a hot button. And, that is exactly what you did. Im one of those people that would pull out my CCW, or my AR if one of your officers was in distress on the side of a highway or during an incident. Im trained, and I carry everyday. Im also responsible. It's sad, in your quest for votes and applause, you sell out my rights as a responsible gun owner. If you are so excited about making a difference vs getting votes, why dont you tackle the DUI issue or heart disease…something that kills hundreds of thousands of people every year. You are nothing but another political showman. Those people in Buncombe deserve better."

I've also heard that he wants CHPs to be valid for only one year, and you must go through the class again to renew. Of course that is beyond his control, but it further shows his mindset.

Wouldn't it be nice if Breitbart and/or other major media outlets got the video and posted it on their webpage(s)?
Have you forwarded them this yet?

He needs to be exposed for this ridiculous statement. Even though he didnt exactly SAY it, he STRONGLY implied it. What a jerkbag and I hope that he keeps getting backlash from this ignorant statement.

Buncombe county is not City of Asheville. While he might be ripe as Asheville Chief of Police, Buncombe County Sheriff is a whole 'nother world.
Asheville went Hillary, Buncombe County went Trump. Buncombe County Representative is Mark Meadows...high profile member of the Freedom Caucus.
Asheville imported a lefty man-chick from Indianapolis to be Chief of Police, who is now under pressure to resign after the cover-up of her troop beating the crap out of a jaywalking black guy, a video and story that went national.
This guy has a snowballs chance in hell for either position, since Buncombe is red and the hipsters in Asheville are not so stoned as to realize anyone who'd just take guns, would take all their weed too.
It's still fun to see him get thrown under the bus proper. So keep going.

Police chief is from Arlington VA, not Indianapolis, and is much better than the jerk they hired from Greenville, NC.

I never heard about the jaywalking thing got the video and story?

I told a democrat friend of mine who lives in that county about it... he wanted proof. I sent him the videos (on the candidates own facebook page) and he claims they've been edited "Veritas / O Keefe" style.

Also he says this candidate isn't really a democrat.

Not to keep beating a dead horse in multiple threads but "this is what we're up against, folks."

YMMV

As the first bits of unrest were erupting in His Majesty’s North American Colonies, prominent Whigs in Parliament warned that the men in the Colonies demanding their Rights as Englishmen be respected would fight, that the fight would be horrific and likely unwinnable.

Several Tory ministers scoffed at the notion of the British Arms being defeated by such backwater peasants. One British general boasted that with no more than a thousand men, he could march invincibly from one end of the Colonies to the other, castrating every American male in the process.

Then came Bunker Hill.

The British advanced with approximately 2200 men and lost 1054, including nearly half of their officer corps killed or wounded. On the third advance, the British finally took the ground, but only because those backwater peasants had run out of ammunition.

Back in London, when news of the “victory” reached King and Country, both the ministry and many generals were aghast to see the cost in lives. After the thumping of Lexington and Concord, the horrifically expensive “victory” at Bunker (Breeds) Hill, and the subsequent arrival of American artillery on Dorchester Heights - the vaunted British Army and Royal Navy fled Boston.

All would be tyrants scoff at the notion of resistance, right up until it happens. Then they spend the rest of their lives trying to absolve themselves of any responsibility for the failure that results.

There was a time in this country when saying such silly things would get you doused in piping hot tar, covered in feathers and had boiling tea poured down your gullet. Maybe seeing yourself burned in effigy in the town square until you gave up your intent to hold the post.

Politicians behaved when they knew not only the people had the will to resist, but to hurt them if they misbehaved.

The guy was just walking home from work. He didn't have any drugs or weapons.
Put up the NYT link (sorry) because it has the best video, and shows just how national it went.
Notice how the other officers just hold the guy down, letting this Hickman officer..well known in the dept and the community as pretty much an ass..beat on this poor guy.

Jaywalking.

Had to laugh. Just went to look up the chief of police of asheville and this came up...

Thought DANG, kind of figures being Asheville.

I'm guessing that's actually Deputy chief Wood in the picture though.

Although I am not in his district, I fired off an email to Representative Meadows with an attached link to the video.

Perhaps if this receives national exposure, other politicians or candidates that embrace the same views will see the fallout and maybe, just maybe, it will give them a moment of pause.

The really sick part of this whole thing is that the law had to be broken to 'leak' the video to the Citizen-Times in the first place. I suspect that more time is being used to investigate who leaked the video rather than crimes that happened against citizens.

If they determine who leaked it, I fully expect an immediate firing and charges. OBTW, it took months before the cop that beat the jaywalker to be fired, and a public outcry before charges were filed against him.

NC passed a law several years ago that basically made it illegal for any body camera footage to ever be seen by the public. Now only cops and the citizen on the video may view it. No other officials, individuals, or watchdog groups have any right to see them, unless a judge agrees they can be view, and on a case by case basis. So ask yourself what does 'your' local PD or sheriff have on body cam footage that will never see the light of day?

They're absolutely enraged. The Department is going bat-shat crazy over that part.

“You’ve heard people say ‘you’ll have to pry my gun from my cold dead hands’.... Okay.” *laughter and applause*

And this guy wants to be CLEO over a City near you... this makes me sick, sad and angry all at once.

Unauthorized political speech is still not an actionable offense? Give it time...

That "Okay" was arrogant, inflammatory and asinine. It shows lack of respect for the bloodbath it would invoke.
Because, that "okay" is not as easy or simple as he thinks. It would mean a bloody and ugly civil war for both sides.

Yes, his video should go viral. A FB post or two should do it.

Wow,.... I feel so much safer with that hardened criminal jaywalker off the street (sarcasm).

I hope the jaywalker got a big fat check from the city in the end.

Punk officer with a badge trying to be a big man. Bragging how he beat on his head and cussing like a sailor all then the video. What a clown.

I sure got told. (rolls eyes)

" Then perhaps your input would be better suited for elections in... oh, I don't know... Surry County?" per Charlie Gough. Im gonna send @Tim to go spank Mr Gough for interrupting when the adults are talking.

Word's starting to spread...

The video is being shared by many and starting to pop up on a lot more websites.
