I have a spring fed creek as one of my property borders here. It ain't big, but it ain't ever run dry either. And I keep a few family and individual sized filters on hand. Best guess I could filter 10 million gallons with what's in my water "box." And with the backup generator I figure I'll have at least a week of a working well before I have to get to that point. So I'll be filling every container in that time as well. The limiting factor would be water. Without city water, I do not have a one-month supply unless I could melt snow.
Still have a creek as a property border but much farther away from where the house will be. And I don't wanna lug water up THAT hill if I can help it.

We got a pretty good mini- test during hurricane Michael in 2018. 4 days without power had us hauling buckets of creek water to the house to flush toilets. Didn't have to drink it because we had that more than that supply in potable water at that time. That experience was the impetus for the whole house generator.
When we relocate to Wilkes I'm gonna have to up my rainwater collection game. Still have a creek as a property border but much farther away from where the house will be. And I don't wanna lug water up THAT hill if I can help it.
We have a number of different Lifestraw and Sawyer filters. Some personal sized and some family sized. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of filters do you use for creek water?

Check out this water powered pumpI stumbled across a grow once.
A pump and a hose pipe was all those little banditos needed to get water up the hill from the creek. Well, and I assume a generator they decided not to leave behind.
I could definitely make it a month but I sure hope I never have to. I really like hot showers, flushing toilets and air conditioning.
Love my Alexapure filter. Same as a Berkey I think. Run all our drinking water through it to filter out all the chemicals. The limiting factor would be water. Without city water, I do not have a one-month supply unless I could melt snow.

probably not without becoming a cannibal...
Thus endth the lesson........Plus most of my neighbors are like minded and we’d all help each other out.
We are seriously looking into complete off grid options for our Wilkes Co home. Like solar/battery with a propane genset backup. It's doable but there are tradeoffs and some of those get expensive. We are a few years out from starting the actual build so learning and planning right now. If we can pull off no connection at all to the grid, I'll be a happy man.Generators, unless solar, eventually run out of their power source. Then just another big box that won't run...like a Fridge...Water heater...electric appliances....My propane and gas generator folks say...well I can run for a week easily....then what? Hellll, I can stand on my head for a week. When you start talking about a Month....now it's going to be serious.
Both my Grand Parents from both sides lived a great portion of their lives without Electric power....think about that. Not a camping trip or a power outage for 2 weeks.....NO electricity, at all, ever. Just as far back as MY Grandparents.....Damn, I'm spoiled.
When you do this, I’d like to know who you go through for the solar and how happy you are with it. I use this one for backpacking. I love it.If you don't mind me asking, what kind of filters do you use for creek water?
This is what I have, and I strongly suggest anyone, that has a few peoples well being to think about especially, to watch for sales on these and extra filters. You can filter gallons at a time, and you don’t really have to babysit itthis is what we have used:
Big Berkey Water Filter
Ideal for medium-sized families of up to four people, the 2.25 gallon Big Berkey water filter is our most popular Berkey Filter system.www.berkeyfilters.com
