CFF Charlotte Area Mountain Bike Crash Fest V - Saturday April 18 2020

Since the WWC is closed, KK and I took this opportunity to make a scouting run up to Mazeppa Park.

My apologies if I'm telling you something you already know, but HOLY COW THAT PLACE IS AWESOME. It is fast, smooth, and as easy or challenging as you want it to be. It has something for everyone.

We both agreed it was our new favorite trail, by far.

Interesting, haven’t ridden up there, guess I’ll have to check it out!

We are still up for going to Hickory tomorrow if the trails are open and anyone else is interested.

Mazeppa is great because it’s as easy or as difficult as you want it to be.

Hopefully tonights rain isnt to heavy at Mazeppa. Everything gonna be closed if it is, cept Poston Park.

Looks like the Tarheel Trailblazers have discovered quantum mechanics, and allowed Mazeppa Park to exist in a state of both open and closed simultaneously:

Awesome! We haven't done Uwharrie before but I'll add it to the list.

We did two laps at Mazeppa yesterday afternoon and our first impressions were not wrong. That place is so much fun. Definitely our favorite.

Part of the trail backs up to the GoPro park, so as you're riding by you can smell the two-stroke oil burning and hear the drivers sliding and crashing. It's free entertainment. :D

I highly recommend Uwharrie. There was def a bit of climbing but the extended downhill was epic! Longer than anything else in the area that I've ridden.

I really enjoy Mazeppa as well, especially the banked curves. I was riding there 3 or 4 times a week for a few months during the summer last year. But I was new to MTBing and got caught up in Strava times, trying see what I could do with my $150 big box store bike vs. the good riders. At least until folks started making all the short cuts and the times got messed up, then it was just riding for fun and exercise. It stayed closed down most of the Winter due to wet conditions and I lost interest in riding in general. We’re lucky to have that trail, I definitely need to get back out there sometime soon!

Strava is evil! I refuse to install it.

Yeah, I have better rides not worried about beating my last rides times. Tracking total distance, elevation gains is really all I care about now. Cateye for the win.

Strava isnt is accurate for that without wheel sensors.

Now, Im gonna sneak a Mazeppa ride in Saturday if I can plus ride on Sunday somewhere

Strava doesn’t appeal to me. I ride to have fun and don’t focus on getting faster each time. I’m perfectly content with stopping to take in the scenery and chat for 5min, and that would kill any strava target. That said, I’ll gladly get out of the way for those going for a KOM.
If I had fun, didn’t crash, and am pretty tired at the end of the ride, it’s a good one!

As you guys already know, I have no problem moving over for faster riders. But people going for a best time are borderline dangerous. If they want to race, they should enter a race.

Or maybe this is just one of my "old man yells at clouds" moments.

At least you own it :p:D

I like strava because it keeps track of moving time. Easier to keep track of suspension maintenance schedule that way.

I’ve been wanting to try out MTB photography since I started riding last year. If anyone hits up Mazeppa on a Sunday or weekday afternoon (before the Copperheads get to moving) and wouldn’t mind me grabbing some pictures, let me know.

You're not doing Hickory on Sunday? I'll mark VI "postponed".

I like Strava more for tracking how many miles I ride. Even though it's usually pretty off lol
