Check your Clorox

Give it to a neighbor with a pool.

I thought it would still work/disinfect/kill bacteria, but maybe just not as good as when new. I have some bleach that is at least 3 years old and has been opened, it still smells like bleach.

Huh, who would thought. Thanks for the heads up.

Hmmm, never knew bleach could expire. I think we have a bottle over 3yr old, guess I should check it. We rarely use bleach.

It would probably still work for clearing the ring out of the toilet.
I have some old old bleach that is of low concentration that says "not for sterilizing"... it works great to whiten the bowl.

A teaspoon of shock makes 2 gals of 6% bleach. A 5lb bottle of HTH granular pool shock will make 650 gal of 6% bleach
And isn’t it a tablespoon of 6% bleach to sterilize 5 gal of reasonably clear water?

Pool shock is a better prep by far
Get the whatever it’s called … Long chemical name that is 99.99% chlorine.

At the start of Covid, we got 5lbs of it. It will purify roughly half a million gallons of drinking water.

Isn’t there still a major chlorine/bleach shortage? My wife bought shock the other day at one of the warehouse clubs. It cost more than 50% more than last year.

Still? I don’t know, but I heard this spring that pool chemicals were going to be in shoRT supply.

A major Chlorine factory in Lake Charles, LA burned down last August. I don’t think they are fully back on line yet.

Will old bleach still work on a butthole? Asking for a friend.

Looks like you can extend the stability by making the solution more basic with a little lye/hydroxide. Also, since one of the degradation products is O2, you may be able to slow the process down by increasing pressure. Sometimes that works better than other times.
I suppose in an apocalypse situation, you could sell your deconatminated fizzy alkaline water to hippies for a premium...
