Did You Go Shooting Today

oh thats nice. yeah i only go there for the range. Their "store" is the most overpriced nonsense I've ever seen. But the range is nice.
I am a full member at FLD and TSA. I've gotten several used pistols at TSA are very good prices. I always check the used case on my way home.

If anyone in the Wake / Johnston Co area has some land where I can go site in a 300blk pistol (need about 25 yards? max) I'll drop off some beers or home baked yummies.

Took an AR-15 (223) that I changed the muzzle break from a bird cage to a VG-6, 308, PPQ and a 3.5" 1911 45 ACP. Plus about 6 months ago I bought an AR-500 steel plate that the size of a torso that I have never shot before.
Start out in a combat bay with the steel plate and PPQ. Shot maybe 10 rounds from 20 to 25 yards just to see how the steel reacted. Then went and shot with a timer for speed. Well I got the speed but lost some accuracy . Ran 75 round through the gun and then switched to the 1911 (60 rounds). Really shot that one better. Might be the extra weight helped the gun stabilize before I pulled the trigger.
Next to the 100 meter range. Was hoping I could get the 308 to group better than it did last time. Not really, 5 shot groups were about 1.5 - 2 MOA. Last up was the AR-15. That gun was dead on last time I shot it. At 100 yards I was off my 3 minutes high and 2 minutes to the right with the new break.
Saved a few rifle rounds to end the day on the 500 yard range. Believe it or not, the 308 was good to 500 yards and after adjusting the AR-15 it was good to 300 with every shot and maybe 75% at 400.

Good range day at DPRC today. RUGER MK ll about 200 rnds , S&W 686 100 rnds. .38Spc. Colt 70 1911 about 100 rnds and several unsuccessful attempts at the WIZARD Ruger LC9. Best thing that happened to me today was that I scored 11 K small pistol primers for $ 25 / K .20191015_122628.jpg

I went to DPRC today also, only saw 3 other people there. Kept my distance and unloaded a few recently loaded 223 rounds.
Think I’ll go back tomorrow, lol.

Actually got to shoot some today. Took the gf to shoot. she burned through 400 .22 in a sr22.

140rds through a new g2c 9mm

5 rd of 38

I got to shoot 50 .22

About 30rd through my xd9sc
And 10 38

When we got there she couldn't get more than 2 or 3 out of 10 in a paper plate.
By the time we left she was putting 36-38 of 9mm amd .22 in a paper plate at the 3 5 7 yards getting ready for her cc permit

I was on the waiting list for DPRC, they finally called up my name a couple of months ago. I was scheduled for the orientation class when the 'rona crap started. Postponed until things are better. :(

Things will get back to normal. Perhaps we’ll meet and shoot some then at the club. I went again yesterday, had my choice of several shooting bays. Beautiful day to be out shooting.

Quick trip to the range with my Ruger #1 in 45-70 and the AR-9 pistol.
Wanted to see if I could hit steel with the 45-70 starting at 200 - 500 yards. Could not see where I was hitting and nobody else to the 500 yard range. Headed down to the 100 yard range and put a bowling pin on the berm. Destroyed it. It has bee shot with 9s, 556, 308s and 6.5 CM and really did not do much damage. Might have gone through it but the 405 45-70 blew it apart.
Then wanted to see how the AR-9 was shooting and it was dead on at 50 yards. Shot at the bowling pin and was hitting it or right around it.

Next range trip might be 22s.

Finally got out to the range, first trip since the 'rona started. Just took three guns, my 16" AR carbine, a Beretta 96, and a CZ P-09. Shot the handguns first, about 100 rounds through each. For the CZ, I also shot a box of Critical Defense, just to make sure they would feed reliably (they do). I will be making that one of my home defense guns. The Beretta was flawless as well. As I was getting ready to leave, I noticed someone was shooting 10mm, and I asked him if he saves his brass, he said "no, you can have it". Got about 50 pieces. :D

I then drifted over to the 500 yard range, but the tables on the deck were in use, and it was so windy I decided not to even bother. I had enough fun, it was good to get back out and make gunsmoke again.

got to try some vehicle shooting drills today. Much more difficult than I had anticipated. Will continue to adjust techniques, but for now, my hits are like 90% at 12+ inch targets and 20% at 4-6 inch targets @ ~20 yards. For comparison, at this pace, would normally be around 95-100%.

Seeing this video is also a stark reminder of how much pandemic fat I'm starting to put on.

Shot the handguns first, about 100 rounds through each.
So far, nobody has given you any noise for shooting a lot of rounds in one range session! Yay!
If it was me doing that (and it has been) I'd be hearing all about it and what a waste it is....lol.
Glad you got to blast away! lol. Do it again tomorrow! I'm cheering you on!

Went to Woody's this afternoon. Pretty darn windy, had to crank some windage into the scope on the Ruger to hit at 300 yds. The 4x scope just wasn't enough for me to see at 400 yds to hit the steel without a spotter.

This one has an old 6x scope with no elevation and windage turrets. I could hit pretty well at 400 yds but I was using a lot of Kentucky windage to do so. This rifle needs a modern optic. My Hornady 68 grain BTHP loads were doing pretty well from both rifles. Had a blast and got to spend a bit of time with Damon while I was there. A good way to spend my 66th birthday.

I feel like a lot of CFF folk are members at woodys. I shoot with 2 others. We should do a woodys meet up once this covid jibba jabba dies down.

You won’t get any noise from me! ;) I like to clean my guns after every trip to the range, not because they need it, but because I don’t know how long it will be before I shoot a particular gun again. So, if I am going to get the gun dirty, I want it to be dirty enough to make the cleaning worthwhile. :D That is my story and I am sticking to it!

Exactly....shoot the heck out of the guns, I say.....

In fact, I'm headed south in a few, and I got lots of ammo in the car! Several guns are going to get worked out pretty thoroughly.....lol.

I shot at Battery Oaks today, didn't have my best handgun shooting, but had a nice visit at the range with RS and did some shooting with her. Billy brought a S&W 500 down and I shot it one time, and that was plenty....owww! I did pretty well with it, though. lol.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I had an issue with the CZ! A failure to feed, I didn't get a pic, but the tip of the round was jammed up under the ramp. It was probably me....as it usually is.

I did a little shooting, and here's the back story of why...
Phone battery started getting REALLY bad. had 2 days off in a row so I backed everything up last night then tried replacing the battery today. Good news is that i replaced the battery just fine. bad news is that something must have broken a cable to the screen somewhere along the way. no dice on getting it running again. fortunately I had picked up a backup for "just in case" my 6yr old phone didn't survive the operation.
Want to see me grumpy? letting expensive electronics die in my hands is a sure way to make that happen.
Needed to blow off steam- so I decided to be play cowboy and spaceman, and also took the opportunity to test out one of my 2 new untested guns.
Cowboy: Heritage single action 22lr (only shot once or twice in like 3 years i've had it). did a couple cylinders and found it's almost easier to work one handed than 2 handed.
Spaceman: beretta neos u22 6" with docter optic red dot. (shot once in maybe 5 years, a few shots to sight in the red dot a few months ago) 10 yards shooting 6 8" steel targets at ~3 per second - i just wish it had more than a 10rd magazine. this counts as therapy.
New gun: beretta APX. grabbed a handful of 147gr and dumped about half a box of 115gr, mixed them up and started shooting. If you saw the torture test video of the apx and saw that it could barely eject... that just seems to be normal. some of the brass didn't make it 2 feet beside me. No problems shooting the mixed ammo though.

new phone is almost done transferring all my apps/settings/contacts/messages.

And you didn't take your neighbor DrScaryGuy?

Some older vidoes of the Mk47 Lightweight Automatic Grenade Launcher. Over half the weight of the older Mk19. It also has a built in ballistic computer, day and night sight.

This one is of the Viet Nam era Mk19 40mm still used today. This is a lot heavier gun.

Just got back from a 22 day. Shot 400-450 rounds. The guns of choice today was a Savage MK-II and S&W MP-22. Targets were paper, spent 12 GA shotgun shell and golf balls at 50 yards and a tennis ball at 100 yards on the berm. Would have put the golf ball on the berm but it was very muddy down there. Shooting the tennis ball was fun. Hitting it and it would get burned on holes that you need to shooting it out by hitting the dirt around it. It finally got stuck in a crank in the berm where you could not see it any more.

A friend and his son came out and they brought a 350 legend rifle. Interest caliber. Shot with less recoil then a 223 but hit harder than a 223 or 30-30.

Here is a picture with the Savage 22 at 50 yards. All groups were 5 shots in a little wind. Shot the center first to figure out where I was hitting. Gun sighted at 100 yards.

Yes!
I took a young friend to shoot the 1911s and the CZ today. He's a great shooter, I'll post up targets and you'll be able to tell whose shots are which. LoL.
The range seems to be getting back to almost normal.

The 350 Legend has been on my radar. A simple barrel and magazine change is all that is needed, can shoot relatively inexpensive 357 bullets, and none of the brass prep needed for bottleneck rifle brass. Gas operated, so it does not have all the reciprocating mass of a 9mm AR. Dang it, I think I just talked myself into building one....
