Did You Go Shooting Today

Yes. I know most of you say a bad day at the range is better than a good day most anywhere else, and generally I’d agree. But today was one of those days I’d have been better off staying at home a lighting $100 bill on fire.

I was hoping to sight in a scope on my 6.8 SBR. Have always just run a red dot on it, but traded some ammo (maybe late last year?) for a 1-6X Primary Arms scope. Pulled the BCG out and boresighted it on a neighbor’s tree earlier this week.

Got to PHA today and shot a little rimfire, then headed to the 200yd range. It’s an ACSS scope so I’m supposed to sight it in at 100yds, then use the reticle markings for other distances.

After it going from bad to worse on the first mag, I figured out I’d not gotten the scope mount tight enough on the upper. Tighten that up, moved to the next mag and kept going. I’d brought some mags I’d loaded months ago and didn’t look too close...just noticed they were all FMJ (and not any of my Hornady V-Max). Well, turns out the 2nd mag was some other brand (Remington instead of S&B), and so I’d chased it in one direction only to swap back to a mag of S&B and have to chase it back.

I made some noise, punched some holes, but ended up just packing everything and leaving...no closer to being sighted in than when I started. At that point I was frustrated enough it wasn’t going to do any good to send more coin downrange.

Never even got to attempt shots at 200.

Next time I need to just find somebody to play spotter, and double-check what I’m doing.

Next time start at 25 or 50 then move to 100. Saves time and money. How does the BDC lineup with 6.8 vs intended 5.56?

The scope says:

So it’s supposed to work for multiple calibers. The manual for the current version actually has a 6.8 load listed, and that’s also what they told me in email when I asked.

I had that optic on a mini-recce build for about a year. I don’t think you can do better for the money. That being said, if you acquired it in a trade there’s no telling what it went through before you got it. Wonder if it’s all gtg inside if it gave you that much trouble?

May be worth sending it in for a clean bill of health. I’m pretty sure their warranty is similar to Vortex.

How does the 6.8 suppress? I was considering building a 12.5” upper. I know that round is supposed to be a laser out to 1k yds and more.

I’ll try it again with a spotter, then see about sending it in.

You can actually load 6.8 subsonic, but I never tried any. My barrel is a BSP with a faster twist to handle subs (and supers). Suppresses like most other supers.

You can go with me and be my spotter and see for yourself (about the scope and the suppression). :D

We can do that one day next week!

No ammunition shortage at Woody's today! I couldn't get a table on the 100 yd side so I had to shoot at the 50 yard side. The ranges were pretty busy. I sighted in the SKS 'paratrooper' that I got from member Baba. Despite the crunchy, wonky trigger this thing shoots really well and turned in some pretty tight groups for an SKS shooting Tula ball. I think I'll keep it :).

I ran a couple of magazines through my 80% Glock in .40 S&W, a couple of magazines through my old Gen 2 Glock 19 pocket gun, and a bunch of rounds through my Cimarron Plinkerton and Ruger SR22. It has been a while since I had shot any 22 LR and it was a pleasure to shoot them.

Shot about 50 rounds through the new to me Sig P239, another 50 through the P228 and then 50 through the CGW CZ Shadow 2. The real fun was 100 round through the MKE Z5P 9mm MP5 Clone. I am so close to pulling the trigger on a suppressor for this gun. All of this was on steel at 15 to 75 yards. I love ringing steel plates with handgun at 75 yards. Also managed to run a few mags through the 1911.

I have to remember to grip the Sigs with my right hand thumb over my left to avoid hitting ridding the slide release. Shooting so many SAO guns has trained me to ride that part of the slide. Took me a few mags to index my hands properly.

My range streak came to an end yesterday. 49 days straight on range shooting. Range closed next few days for Eid here.

CD
That'll give you time to load up a big batch for the after party get together.

I shot a local match. Round count was around 120.
I shot like a dog.
Couldn't stay on the front sight
Hit two non threarts I bragged last month that I had never hit a non threat at this match so karma gave me a little wake up call today.

yesterday

took the g17, the vp9, and the pmr30
my buddy had a variety of glocks and a few CZ scorpions

hot day, but nice to shoot

I went to the DPRC range for my orientation, part of which was to shoot 50 rounds at the handgun range, 25 yards. I used my Witness Stock II and had a group I was very happy with. After the orientation was over, I went up to one of the steel ranges and shot another 50 rounds, as well as 50 rounds in my steel frame Witness 45.

Shot an IDPA BUG match at Buccaneer today, we were done by 11:30 thankfully as the temp was 94 with a heat index over 100.

here is some of what was shot yesterday

Finally, after over a month, I got to shoot some guns.
The CZ, the 1911 in 9mm, and a couple of borrowed guns I can't remember the names of, as usual.

Never got to the Rossi. Next time.

RS looked at some of my targets and said, "You did ok....for you." LOL.o_O
It was right-hand-only shooting with the CZ, and it took about 5 rounds to finally hit the steel, but after that, I was ok.

I got all 5 shots on the Wizard (finally), though the last 2 I called on the circle, but they ended up in a nice close "group" on the rectangle.....times were a little over 3 sec. up to substantially over 6......the 6+ was a pretty bad time, even for me......ooooops.
It's a work in progress. (Thanks to My Precious (RIA 1911) for getting me the shots.)

Had fun though!

Shoot a little before meeting @NoNameHaveI to give him some Winchester 231 I picked up for him locally.

Today was a bit of an odd ball caliber day for me. Shot some 22LR out of the Ruger MKII. Shot 32 ACP from a Beretta 82. 38 SPL from a S&W 19, 380 auto from a Beretta 85B and finally some 9mm from a BHP & CZ75B. All and all a good time. Nothing on the lock. No real drills just plinking away a 7, 10 & 15 yards.

Yep. Youngest and I went to FLD today to shoot pistols and sight in my AR rifle and pistol (switched scopes on them). Shot about $250 worth of 9mm and .22lr (at today’s prices) and 20 .223 (so another $100).

That's a nice place.....too bad it's so far from me! lol. I've done some training there.
Make a trip of it
Come up, a CFF luncheon and range day, stay in the area for the night then head back
Im sure there are lots of places you could crash - I have an extra bedroom if you ever needed!

I stayed at a hotel 2 nights in whatever city is down the interstate about 10 miles from the range, when I was doing training there. It wasn't bad.....is all that nasty interstate construction done? That was a barrel of fun at 5 am!
Let me know when you guys have your luncheon/shooting day.....in the cooler weather, please!!!! I like PHA, but hate the heat.

Shot (3) 2oz shots of Jameson with 15 family members for my 43rd tonight. Life is good. Plenty of guns, ammo, & family. None is for sale!
*where's that rookie numbers meme...*

J/K, happy birthday!

Took my Daughter shooting handguns for the first time. In the past she was not interested, but asked me to take her and show her how they all worked. I had a Glock 20 & 34, Dan Wesson 357, and a CZ-75 sp01. She has good tastes, she liked the CZ-75 best. After about 30 minutes for practice and going over the basics, she was able to keep all shots on a paper plate at 10 yards.

Took a couple ARs out today, to get ready to bust some prairie dogs & jack rabbits in CO next week. Took my 14.5" 5.56 out to sight in & my 18" 6.8 to check/adjust the zero. 5.56 shot well with XM855 & absolutely no regrets with ponying up for the Steiner P4Xi & the Geissele SSP. Definitely looking forward to getting better acquainted with this gun. The 6.8 did its usual, which is to say shoot like a house on fire. It'd been zeroed with 110gr Nosler Accubonds, so I needed to check it with the 90gr Speer TNTs I'm taking out to CO. Once I got 'er re-zeroed, I wanted to see how it shot the XM68 90gr Gold Dots. 1st shot center-punched the cross hairs of the target. This is a quick 20 rounds at 25 yards-

68 target.jpg

I sure do wish I'da ordered another case or 2 of that XM68 when PSA was blowing it out for $11.99/box

Took a friend out and set up some steel and a few USPSA targets. She was nice enough to freshen the paint on the steel prior to starting....! She was shooting a P365 and could run all (8) of the plates about 75% percent of the time. Also shot a Ruger 22/45 at a static steel gong just before dark..!
