I'm in Charlotte, so #1 on my list is JJ's Red Hots on E Blvd. I like the "Char Heel" with just a little each of chili, mustard, slaw and onion. I like to taste the dog.

The Onion Rings....Oh my :D

#2 for me is Showmars on Eastway. Same condiments as above, but they deep fry the dog. If the guy on the fryer is on his game...damn they're good

I live in a rural podunk. Not too many joints around here, but there’s a local restaurant that serves decent hot dogs.

My go to, however, is to get Sabrett’s at the store and make my own. I actually prefer them boiled on a warm bun with melted cheese, mustard, and ketchup, but won’t turn down (red) onion if I have it.

Percy Flower store on 42E of Clayton
Kermit's is pretty darn good, similar

Mustard/Chilly/Onion is the only answer if you are from the south. Slaw is acceptable.

I'm partial to chilli dogs from Snoopy's on Hillsborough in Raleigh
As weird as it may sound, I thought Char Grill on Hillsborough had the better Hot Dogs when I lived In Raleigh, the few times I went to Snoopy's I could have just been unlucky cause everyone else loved it

Not in my area but I was highly impressed with @lowspeed Pineville Tavern hotdog when I dropped off the display case. That was probably one of the best I’ve had in a while. But I will say don’t try to eat it going down the road like I did. It’s messy

I also like Costco. Definitely can’t beat the price.

I've somehow never gone to Chargrill. Skated and drove past it a few times though. Maybe it's time to give it a go!

I can't say I've tried any down this way. Chicago has a few things that it does right, dogs being one of them. If there's a real answer in Charlotte I'm eager to hear about it.

Bill's Hot Dogs, Washington NC, the one on Gladden st.

Warren's Hot Dogs, Greenville NC.

Both of these places are good. I prefer Warren's a little bit more, mainly because their chili is slightly more spicy. The Bill's near the waterfront is the best one, out of the 3 locations.

A Zack's dog with Mustard, Chili, Onion, and some of Zack's Secret Hot Sauce is, without a doubt, the BEST dang hot dog to ever grace a plate!
Their secret sauce is awesome!

I used to hit The Roast Grill in downtown Raleigh in the late 80’s/ early 90’s.
The elderly Greek lady charred the dogs, made her own killer slaw and chili. I was doing Corvette restoration at the time, was usually covered in fiberglass & paint, & would sit down with bank presidents, etc. Fun conversations, ESPECIALLY when someone asked for ketchup, she’d loudly lecture them.
It looks like they’re still around.

When someone came in who looked like they were down on their luck and ordered one hot dog, she would bring them two if they looked like they needed it.

Chain would be dario, and if you haven't tried their turkey dog you're missing out.
Local joint would be cheeks grill, or frostee freez
All dog are ordered chilli, slaw, and mayo

Yes Mrs Charles’ son runs it now. If I’m getting a hot dog, this is where I’m getting it. Two all the way and a beer!

Salt Works. You better be there by 3 o'clock or you will find a locked door and they only take cash. There is an atm outside not sure what the surcharge is I would recommend taking some cash with you. I had eaten there a couple times before but after hurricane Florence I had been working for clients tarping roofs and cutting trees off houses. I stopped in there to get a hot dog and sit in the AC for a minute. I got there right after 3 and the door was locked. I turned around and started walking back to my truck when the owner came out back and stopped me. He said "it looks like you boys need something to eat" and let us in the back. He whipped up food for me and my partner while the other wait staff did their side work and drank beer. He tried to not even charge us for the food and had offered free beer to us. I don't drink so I politely turned down the alcohol but I left a $100 under my tray. He still remembers me I don't go in there much but he always come out from behind the grill and talks to us when I go in there.

There is also a place we go to on the water. If we take the big boat we always joke it's a $500 hot dog. They're really not that good of a dog but it's nice to take the women by boat and if it is just me and the girlfriend and it's not too cold we'll have some fun on the way home. Well worth the $500 price tag but not for the hot dog.

Muzzy's Drive-In (Kidd's for the younger folk) in Liberty

Chuckwagon in Carthage

Crossroads Grill in Siler City
Man I was keeping a couple of those a secret 😁.

Haven’t eaten at Muzzy’s in a very long time. Used to dove hunt up that way and we would always hit Muzzy’s for lunch.

And now that the cat is out the bag so to speak. Crossroads has great hotdogs. Had some just last night!

Favorite hot dog? Any brand, blackened on the grill. Makes any hot dog taste better. Better brands make for better dogs, of course, like Nathan's.

Favorite hot dog place? Jack's Cosmic Dogs, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Not because I think they're the best thing since sliced bread, but because it's a place my wife introduced me to years and years ago. I like the atmosphere. It's got that 50s SciFi/Toy vibe, though they've changed it up quite a bit in the last few years and it's missing some of that vibe, in my opinion.

Cool place. If I remember they have about 50 different relishes for their dogs. Dogs were decent, but the options make that place.

I can never justify buying hot dogs at restaurants. Rather make them at home like this:

Sabrett's Hot Dogs
King's Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns
Duke's mayo
Inglehoffer Stone-Ground Mustard
Caramelized sweet onion cooked in butter & smoked paprika
Chopped raw red onion
Shredded smoked gouda cheese

I haven't found a hot dog place I like around here, but the Kasekreiner sausage from JJ's was pretty good. I can eat their pickled red onions like candy, too.
