Favorite Hot Dog in your AO?

I can never justify buying hot dogs at restaurants. Rather make them at home like this:

Sabrett's Hot Dogs
King's Hawaiian Hot Dog Buns
Duke's mayo
Inglehoffer Stone-Ground Mustard
Caramelized sweet onion cooked in butter & smoked paprika
Chopped raw red onion
Shredded smoked gouda cheese
This guy gets it.

Nathan's burnt black and split open
Top slice bun
Claussen sandwich slice pickle or two
Duke's
Lay's crumbled on top
Big slice of Havarti melted over all of it

Fun conversations, ESPECIALLY when someone asked for ketchup, she’d loudly lecture them.
One of the few things I disagree with Clint about..
When I was growing up we used to really like The Yum-Yum in GSO. And there's The Hot Dog Shack in Granite Quarry.
Neither are overly great but will do inna pinch. Anymore it's just better to do it m'self.. 🤖

Whenever I see "Chicago style" I think of this:

thats the truth. I went to Chicago one time and was really excited to try their style pizza. I am not a picky eater but it was all I could do to get it down. We were at a "world famous" pizza joint that had been featured of TV I can't remember the name of it but I was not impressed. The only restaurant I remember being good in that whole God forsaken city was a local steak house.

I was scrolling down this thread and was surprised not to see Pulliams higher up. Then seen your post. Been eating there hot dogs for close to 40 years. And still stop whenever I'm in that part of winston-salem. Started going there with my great grandpa as a toddler. My great grandpa loved there dogs and my great grandma was more of a kermits fan.

i could have typed that exact post -except the 40 years part. its been almost 50 years now.

i grew up in walkertown - so pulliams, coalsons, and doreens were my favorite spots.

That's tourist pizza, the cheese and tomato soup served in deep dish crust. People local don't eat that crap.
I'm guessing it was Gino's or Uno.
Gino's is the joint where everyone wrote on the walls. It was more famous for that than the food. Lou Malnotti pizza is the good stuff, and it's not deep dish.

Chicago food is Chicago dogs, Billygoat Tavern cheeseburgers, Mr Beef or Portillos for Italian Beef sandwiches. You're going to get fat (or fatter) eating that stuff but it's really good when you get it all right. Cuisine/fine dining places that take reservations and require a jacket and tue are good, but that's not realistic for the average person. Most everything else is a chain.

I totally forgot and I just went there a month and a half ago.
It is like a 1A/1B for me with Kermit's. I didn't throw PB's in there because my list would be too long. But PB's, Red Caboose (I haven't been in 6-8 years so it may not be as good as it was then) definitely honorable mentions, and may pass the soda shop.
Sounds like I need to try Doghouse too.

I like Costco for the price, but my favorite place to get a hot dog in my neighborhood is from a little lady that parks her stand in front of Cornelius Elementary School on Catawba Avenue every day. 2 with chili, slaw, and mustard. Add a bag of chips and an an ice cold can of Sundrop to wash it all down and I’m set.

What’s Sup Dogs?
It's a hot dog and beer restaurant in Greenville. I hear it's good, but despite living here for 17 years, I've never been. I generally don't go to any restaurant or bar that close to ECU. Can't stand the college students, even when I was that age.

People often confuse "style" with "quality".

Like any other pizza, "Chicago style" is only as good as the ingredients that go into it and how it's made. So the correct way of stating this isn't "Have you tried Chicago style pizza?", it's "Have you tried Chicago style pizza from (name the restaurant)?".

The difference is as radical as "Have you tried the Fillet Mignon at O'Charlies?" and "Have you tried the Fillet Mignon at River Stone Chophouse?".

there a hot dog stand in St Augustine FL out on A1A before the turn off to the city... a line every day I saw....
sorry i can't recall the name... wait found it!!

bookoffaces link

dang good hand-cut fries too!!!

hoping to get a taste soon....

I'm in Charlotte, so #1 on my list is JJ's Red Hots on E Blvd. I like the "Char Heel" with just a little each of chili, mustard, slaw and onion. I like to taste the dog.

The Onion Rings....Oh my :D

#2 for me is Showmars on Eastway. Same condiments as above, but they deep fry the dog. If the guy on the fryer is on his game...damn they're good
does little hardware still have the hot dog stand in the parking lot? that was my fave

Supposedly there's a Chicago food (dogs and beef) place right around the corner from there, but whenever I look online there not open.

Pulliam's for hot dog... yeah boy.... for BBQ neva agic !!

Kermit's with pimento cheese!

Where I grew up, in the Glorious Socialist People’s Republic of Marylandistan, there was a local butcher shop, Pepi’s Meats.
They made the hid dogs fresh every day. Didn’t taste like any other hot dog I’d ever had or have had since.

Boone Doggies brick and mortar location in Yadkinville was great before it closed. From what I understand, they are operating the food truck in the Winston Salem area. I need to chase it down soon.
Best dogs in Winston! He is setting up on Thursday & Fridays on W. Clemmonsville Rd. Down beside Southern Fasteners.
His homemade chili & pickled jalapeños are the best.

The Pig is back!!!
Where/What is this one?

I posted in another thread that I spent a couple days in Greeneville TN a couple weeks ago. There was a street vendor there at the liquor store (at the intersection of Summer and Irish) that a local referred us to...I have never went to a street vendor before but this guy is well known by locals and it was pretty good. My wife had a brat on a grilled deli bun that was off the chain good. I got two regular dogs that were still very good. When we got there there was only one lady in line. When we ate in the car and left, there was about 10 people in line.

I DID recall another NC joint that I've been to about 3 times and always loved them IF they are still open-Bob's Dogs in Oak Island.

Corky’s Dawg House in Brevard is the only legit Chicago style dog I can find in the south (so far)
Well, based in this post-and looking for a day trip today-we went to Brevard and spent a few hours. We enjoyed Corky's and will be back. As far as dogs-I couldn't see the Chicago dog as I didn't think I'd like several condiments on it, we both got Carolina dogs. Shared pretzels and fries. Wife got a red velvet shake. Everything was on point!

Honestly the best hotdogs I’ve had in years (and I eat them pretty regularly) is an old guy with a hotdog stand that sells them at Oakridge town park when my son plays baseball there.

Second to that is a grill called Ruby’s in a gas station down highway 49 in Burlington.
