Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

Hit up MHC Port area yesterday. Started off nice, then the water spouts hit. Rain threatened but held off. I’m all a good day of catching. I totally forgot to take a pic of the haul until it was too late. I kept several pigfish, which I will fry whole, and a grey trout (I caught several greys, but you are only allowed to keep one per day). Caught lots of undersized black sea bass. I also live lined pinfish in hopes of catching a cobia, but no luck… the pinfish did bring some excitement… I had two different big king mackerels hit. One cut my pinfish off just behind the hook. The second rocked my bait at full speed and cut through my 100lb test mono like hot butter. Next outing I will use wire mackerel rigs, just in case, even if I am targeting cobia.

Almost forgot….

PSA: the lizard fish are here and in full force!

Interesting. Was there last week and not one lizard fish, but the toadfish bite was on. And good God the little black sea bass. I didn't mind, my son finally got to do a lot catching.

Great pic! Nice job taking your son fishing! You can tell he is having a great time!

Only caught one toadfish, which could have been a potential state record… it was massive! The lizards come from the radio island side of the port, north side of the radio island boat ramp and at the AB bridge, all on the smaller side, but bait stealers and lure shredders nonetheless.

You are right about the port, if you want to get kids / first time fishermen hooked, that’s the place. You will catch fish at the port and the Black Sea Bass bite will keep them busy all day! Not to mention the season movement of grey trout and sea mullet in that area. Also, you can slip around to the Town Creek Marina basin area and catch spots (when they are running) and Spanish Mackerel. Overall, the port Ann’s immediate surrounding area is just a good generalized area to catch fish.

That's a great bait for a big Blue Cat.
Only fish I never kill.

Almost got shot over a six pounder I caught in a park pond. Family of Mexicans wanted me to give it to them to eat. Dropped it back in and said if I kill it there won’t be any to catch.
I can only imagine what some of those words meant.
In another park pond, hammered a 7 pounder and landed it. An old black woman asked me what I was going to do with it. She had a bucket she wanted it to go into.
I said “this” as I dumped her back in.
She started yelling at me “who do you think you are, Bill Dance?

Just can’t bring myself to kill them.

Someone weigh this for me. Had to reach in the very back of her throat to get the frog out. My entire hand fit

Got my father—born and raised Florida man, never waded freshwater in his life for obvious Florida reasons—into a couple rivers for a belated Fathers’ Day trip.

The Neuse had nothing for us, but the Eno produced. I ended up in some Roanoke Bass, Rock Bass, and Redbreasts. I swapped between micro swimjig setups and inline spinners.

My father builds lures. He made himself a couple of micro jerkbaits and poppers for the trip, and his little jerkbaits ended up pulling out a bunch of Redbreasts and Bluegills.

Couple from this morning

Definitely looks like an awesome day … and it looks like the kids having a blast and are hooked on fishing now! You guys were wearing out the Gafftopsail Cats!

good sir, there was times that we all 3 had fish on. never had that happen lol.

but thought about keeping some, but today was about the kiddos getting out there and learning and having fun and that they did

man that ray was huge, about 15-18 inches wide and put up a helluva fight.

first trout, right at 16 1/2”. kept it. kept a topsail catfish as she was decent size also

Yeah those rays are fun.
Out West in SF bay we called them poor man’s tarpon.
Get hooked into one as they’d burn drag and almost spool you. Then bury in the mud, once you got it winched out it would come at you . Wind up line like crazy and it would keep on going after it got to you.. bbzzzZZZzzzzzzz zzz zzzz ZZZZzzzzz

Such a blast.

They also taste great, one of my favorite fish to eat.

After having no luck at all while fishing for crappie off and on for the past few days, I switched to catching.....catfish!
Caught half a dozen around 24" pretty quick. Went to get my phone for some pics and the switch turned off as a storm rolled
in. Sat there under the covered area of the dock while the rain poured down,
"Alan" the injured Canadian Goose seemed anchored, unfazed in the storm. His flock allows him to join them, but when they fly away he's left alone....so we feed him.

I enjoy fishing but catching is much more fun.

Finally got out on the creek. This float took about 6 hours but I spent a lot on time fishing and not much paddling. The red eye bass on a whopper plopper was funny. Caught a smallie on it too. Most came on a rebel craw. Had a couple brutes swipe at it but couldn’t connect.

Which creek?

Jacob Fork. I think I talked to you about floating that a while back. Thought my wife was going to go but she decided not to that morning. From CVWC to Providence Church Rd. It's a long float if you just float along. You can shorten it a bit by paddling the first 30-40 minutes then fishing. But I don't have enough self control most times.

Yes, you did. Wasn't sure if that is what you did or something else, like the lower part of Wilson Creek. I've lived here 16 years and still haven't floated either.

I'd like to do Johns River as well. It's just tough with only one vehicle that can haul boats. My wife shuttled my truck down to the bridge and left it for me yesterday.
