Fudd-free Range Recommendations around Raleigh or Eastern NC

DPRC is pretty cool for that, by virtue of the club usually being empty enough you generally get a range to yourself. I could in theory slap a stock on one of my braced pistols and nobody be any the wiser. Not that I do that of course.

There are a lot of people who *look* like Fudds there, but in my experience they're not really Fudds. I've never had any of my shortie boys batted an eye at.

Just please don't destroy the steel targets through improper use, and staple your targets to the center of the cardboard, not to the frames. That's all I'm asking.

The wait-list to join is years long. I put in an application what seems like forever ago to join. I'm stuck with the Durham Wildlife Club for now which is the fuddiest of all the fudd ranges.

Yeah, that is definitely the problem is that it takes like three years to finally get in.

DPRC has a bunch of suppressor owners but not much else in the NFA stuff … so while they might be Fudd in many ways they are at least do understand NFA is not four letter word (channeling good ol’ Sleepy Joe).

(5) Persons who lawfully possess or own a weapon as defined in subsection (c)
of this section in compliance with 26 U.S.C. Chapter 53, §§ 5801-5871.
Nothing in this subdivision shall limit the discretion of the sheriff in
executing the paperwork required by the United States Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco and Firearms for such person to obtain the weapon.

I read that as to be as long as you are in compliance with federal law, of which I am, I am within my right now not show anything to a state LEO.
@BigWaylon is giving you solid advice.

Wait list should be under 2 years now. If you have been on longer than that you might have missed an email about joining.

Lots of suppressors, some SBRs if you pay attention.

No full auto is allowed.

The club will never ask to see your papers except for your membership badge of course.

I will have to look into it, thank you. And yeah I was at ENC in Goldsboro and this guy was demanding to see my tax stamp. I asked him if he was with the ATF and he said no but he has to see it. I would really rather have my dollars go elsewhere.
That’s obnoxious. I’m an RSO at my local private gun club and it wouldn’t occur to me to go around asking for NFA stamps for everybody who is shooting with a suppressor. I’m pretty sure our board would frown on that. It will be interesting to see what happens, though, if the ATF brace rule goes into effect. Our club does require that firearms must be legally owned. We’ll see.

How do you know if someone legally owns their weapon? What if they stole it? Do you check serial numbers with a law enforcement agency to make sure it's not stolen? What if they had a 15.9" barrel but you didn't know? Seems like it's more work than it's worth to me.

What if I had an approved Form 1 but chose to keep the brace installed?
What if the trust name was something other than my last name? Check trust docs for whether a person is an RP or not?
What if for some strange reason I’d installed a smooth-bore barrel?
Can you spot a P&W job from any reasonable distance?

Etc, etc, etc.

😎🤣

Exactly. If people are checking for the ARBITRARY LEGALITY of weapons they have way too much time on their hands.

Imagine doing the work for the ATF, and then imagine doing it for free!

Reevaluate yourself!

But you also say you won't ask for tax stamp proof?!?

I don't get it.
Because we are adults and we give our members the benefit of the doubt that they are not wandering around the club committing felonies. If it turns out that someone has unlawful items, they are subject to expulsion from the club. I’m not going up and down the firing line demanding that people show me their tax stamps if they are using a can.

I have a life membership at ENC. Been going there for many years. Not quite sure why the tax stamp rule was put into place (I think its a fairly new rule), but I do know they have been having alot of problems with people not following the rules for the last few years. I've never been asked to show stamps, but I'm usually leaving when they are opening up (gate access).

I just paid the orientation fee for CCGC sight un-seen and this thread makes me a little nervous. I have land and used to have my own range but developers bought out my neighbors place on three sides of me. Sigh.

You need to establish a "regularly in use" range to set a pattern before they develop.

It's a small 75 yard range, but it's mine! @rbell2915 you are not far from Warsaw. I've been wanting to get suppressor, you can come by sometime as long as I get to shoot your rifle and you educate me on suppressed rifles! Thank you for your service, I am the proud father of an active duty Marine.

I will certainly have to take you up on that offer soon. Thank you very much!

I was over at my parents' last night telling my father about this situation and he told me the last time he was there the fudd checking him in said he hated his NAA .22 revolvers he inherited. Why would someone tell their customers, the people who pay you, that you hate their equipment? Is it that hard to keep your mouth shut?
