Fuel Prices...

Nope. Just not taking long trips. I am retired and some what of a fixed income and I would rather spend my money on other things.
I get that, completely. Having said that, doing the math, (I used Elizabeth City to Orlando for the milage, roughly 740mi one way, added a few miles for driving around there and came up with 1600mi round trip)

If your travel vehicle gets only 15mpg (figured unless you’re pulling a camper you’re getting at least that) you’ll use 107 gallons. So even at $8.00 a gallon, you’ve only gone over your current budget by $214 bucks. I do realize there has to be a limit cause it’s easy to “it’s only $ more” until you’re way over budget. Just food for thought though.

We’re going to the gulf coast this summer for a week, my travel vehicle gets about 13mpg (gas excursion with the V10, hoping to have a programmer on it before then that should eek out a few more mpg) if we need to we’ll cook a few meals at the resort to offset the increased gas prices, rather than cancel the trip all together. Again this is just my philosophy, and if something happened to where we couldn’t go (afford or otherwise) I’d break out the camping equipment and we’d do a weekend in the woods, the kids would enjoy that just as much I think.

An investment guy bought in BIG just before Russia moved on the Ukraine (I think he said bought in at a little over $92). He said unless there is a major turn he is speculating $150 is pretty much a given … $175 likely … and $200 is possible if there is no major response in policy to help with the supply. He did say he has set his target to take profits at $160 if all factors hold. Sad thing is no one disagreed with him …

I really enjoyed filling up my company car today with the gas card. I enjoy my Jeep, but will bench it when I am able. Jeep will be reserved for my mountain trips and short weekend errands. I’ve put about 9600 miles on it in 14 months so it shouldn’t be tough so limit its use a little bit more.

Like I said before I would rather spend my money on things other then gas. Let me add that I have been to Disney more then 30 times, so I am not really missing out on much.

Edit: If I am alive in 2023 I will go no matter what. Will have several family members doing the "Dopey Challenge".

Looks like Biden and some Dims are going to try and get Venezuelan oil back in the mix … $40 million in their new spending bill for Venezuelan programs … WTH? We have oil reserves in Alaska, Texas, Montana, Wyoming and a few other plus Canadian companies wanting to fill the Russian void and they are looking at Venezuela who has Chinese ties in their oil operations? Why not just screw all the US oil jobs ... send cash directly to Xi and the CCP along with kiss their ass … good bye US energy independence.

My dad did that before it even had a name. Was down there for him and my wife (and some others) to do the Goofy Challenge the first year, and found out there was a 5K on Sat afternoon. Said what the heck and signed up for it. The rubber Chicken Little medal isn’t as nice as the others…but it was neat to see him do it.

In case you didn’t know, they used to start the half and full at roughly the same time on the same day. Then they split them to Sat & Sun, with no discount for doing both. As I’ve often said, Disney is a master of separating you from your money and making you feel good about it.

Her medals from that year:

The 15th anniversary marathon medal was in color…pretty cool:

ETA: looks like the official Dopey includes a 10K as well, which wasn’t an event when my wife last ran the marathon.

I'm glad some people on here are happy to see higher prices if it means democrats lose. Not everyone is so fortunate. My wife and I have been blessed, but I truly feel for a lot of people right now. I am hoping that she gets a job closer to home that she applied for. Saving a commute from Burlington to Asheboro would help our cash flow for sure. Luckily my part time gig I get mileage for and have a decently fuel efficient vehicle.

They did it back in 2019 (think I have the correct year). They loved it. Wife and I were not able to make that one, but they enjoyed the heck out of it. Just hoping the price of gas does not get in the way of to much. We are going to Tennessee in May for a wedding. So it will be interesting to see what we will be paying.

Where I live a lot of people commute to the shipyards in Va.. I am sure they are feeling it. At least it did not go up again over night. Was still $4.19 this morning.

Back when people were buying overwhelming numbers of SUV and Crossovers gas was almost at over $3.30 I took my wife to buy a new car. She had a Honda Accord getting 22 mpg. At the Toyota dealership I pointed to the Prius units and said pick a color. She wanted a Prius that was different than the normal (not made now) which got 7 mpg less. I told her it’s not happening, it will be only the highest milage car made by Toyota. She grumbled but I explained there will be a time when gas gets to $5 a gallon and we are going to be prepared. Gas dropped to $2.20 in 2014 but I knew it was the right decision.

We have saved 1/3 of the new cost of the car over her Accord. She goes 3 weeks on the same tank sometimes which is 10 gallons. We have taken many trips to Ok, KS, RI, FL, Penn, and closer states. We will always own a hybrid now. The diesel truck gets 15 mpg loaded at 7900 lbs of service bed, tools, and parts. The van gets 11. No way around the work vehicles due to size needed. 50 to 54 mpg we don’t even consider drive cost for shopping or traveling.
My friend has a 2006 Prius with just under 300k miles on it. He is starting to have to do minor repairs, but all are very affordable. He drives like a maniac and still gets 38mpg. Only person I've ever known to drive past a police pursuit.

It's about 35 miles from Moyock to NNSY. Even in a gas sipper, that's a gallon each way. Deeper into Carolina or driving to HII can double that. I know a couple of people who drive from Kill Devil Hills or Edenton.

A lot of those people live in NC to try and save money. It's not working out for them right now.

"Looks good".. Until it doesn't.. 😂 🤣 It was s'posed to be satire..
Hard ta tell if it would be a first step t'wards savings (how long would it take to recoop that initial outlay).
Or a very expensive knee jerk to somethin that may be temporary on the off chance that elections still mean anything.
Yeah, those ain't looking so bad at this point...
I wonder which "District" will get the honor of hosting all those old batteries?
Or mebbe even more fun, get to work in the EV Recycling Gulags for us despicable deplorables. 😉
And where does the energy come from to run those? I'm thinking battery powered furnaces aren't gonna work so well.
There ain't nothin "green" about it but money..
I ain't sayin'. Just sayin'..

In 2020 vacations were killed by “stay at home” orders … 2021 vacations were crippled by COVID mandates and regulations … looks like 2022 vacations are going to be squashed before people even start because fuel prices are going to cause the cost of getting there to be more than the vacation itself. The average family hasn’t had a decent chance in 2 years and now it looks like it will be 3 with gas price not to mention justvplain inflation. Along with that the towns who depend on tourists for a big part of their revenues are seeing another year of lower tourist numbers. FJB!

A 2 cent reduction seems reasonable. Afterall, crude is only down 14% from this week’s high. 🥳

In Asheboro it was 3.94 two days ago, now it is 3.75!

That is at Sheets and you get three more copper coins off with a sh$t card.

Can anyone see that last post? @Jeppo liked it but I can't see it now. The forum has been acting a little odd lately on my mobile.
I couldn’t see it but CFF management told me to like all your posts. 😂

Was still $4.20 when I got some at 9pm. I'm guessing it will take a lot longer for them to drop the price than it did for them to raise it.

dropped 4c at the citgo i mentioned before

People will stop making unnecessary trips and stop using so much gas and diesel. Taxes collected on the fuel will drop. Can't have that!

The Dims cannot go into the November elections with today's gas prices and the Ukrane mess. Somewhere around Labor Day things will change and they can go into the elections bragging how they lowered fuel prices and put Russia in their place.
