I decided it was time to replace the burners and heat shields in my gas grill...

Should've been a fairly straightforward project. The shields aren't attached, so remove & replace. The burners simply slide over the gas nozzles and are held in place on the other end by a small cotter pin.

1 of the 4 doesn't light. There's nothing about it to be broken, as they're just hollow tubes. I see a spark. I can swap burners around and the problem stays in the same spot.

I did not remember to try one of the old burners back in that spot before I left the house. Just trying to come up with possible ideas before I get back home.

Anything to look for? Maybe run a wire brush over the end of the nozzle in case there's a rust flake or something in the way?

is your gas nozzle damaged or gummed up? Maybe some fat dripped on it or something?

Did you poke the orfice ?

Try cleaning it with a small drill bit without making it any larger.

Soap the orifice to see if you're getting gas flow. If not, bad/stuck valve?

This is going to head to Chad's Basement fast if we don't wartch out.

I used the same valve the day before to grill (with the old burner).

I'll swap back to an old one this evening and check that, and run a brush across the nozzle as well. There's a pork tenderloin needing heat tonight, but the other three burners can defiantly handle it if needed.

I'll tell the better half to make me a sammich while I work on it. Two birds and all.

And now it's just mocking me.

New burner, won't light.
Swap two new burners, same nozzle won't light.
Reinstall old burner, lights as it should.
Back to new burner, won't light.
Try lighting new burner manually, lights immediately.
Back to electric lighter, won't light.

Burner is good. Lighter is good. Gas flow is good. Combination of the three is bad.

Welcome to my life. I'm sure my reloading hobby is going to work the same way when I start in the near future.

One of those that has an igniter on each burner? I cleaned dads real good once and it sounds the same as yours. I had to mess with igniter clearance to get them to light again. It sparked every time, but something about the ground distance from igniter to the burner was goofy.

That's my lie, it it works now

Yep. Igniter on each burner.

Wouldn't you know it...fired up on the first attempt tonight when it was time to grill. Must've heard y'all suggesting I toss it for a Weber or a charcoal replacement. ;)

I have had more than one inanimate object decide to behave when threatened with extinction. I mean like old gas powered tools that would no longer start that now start every time.

Just do what I do. Turn the gas on , close the lid and count to ten. Then push the button and duck. Works every time.
Good way to live up to part of that handle of yours! As in, "after I tried that, I shat myself."
