Gun Control proponents are now trying to buy Guns & ammo anticipating "The Sh* Hitting the Fan"

With all those first time buyers (none of them intending to practice or receive training)...this is an excellent time for Social Distancing. I wanna be as far from them as possible!

As long as there’s not a shortage of ear plugs, patches and Hoppe’s, I’ll remain worried!!!!!

Oddly enough, I think this is probably the best thing to happen to the second amendment in a long time. 2Aers buying under threat of govt bans just goads the antis, but antis buying for fear of their life may actually open some eyes.

This situation may open a few eyes but the majority, no. Honestly, I really don't think it would be good to have a bunch of scared, untrained (range time, not formal training) people with guns. This is just not the time and may increase danger to all. Face it, you can't shoot the virus so what is the mindset?

Sad to say but the only option available to those without preps looking at a prolonged "shelter in place" event is to take from others if/when necessary. Hoping that's not the mindset.

With multiple local and state governments suddenly saying "no more guns", I think it will become a major issue again.
Clips of the panic, clips of biden saying he wants to ban guns, clips of trump claiming to be a 2A supporter. That's a good election ad right now.

You're right, we should puts controls on gun ownership. </s>

The mindset is self-defense. I don't think these people are a threat to me and you (except for maybe an ND through the wall). If are worried a new gun owner (that probably hadn't even shot their gun) can outshoot you then oof.

When it comes to safety, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know how to use a gun. African children have been shooting AKs for decades and I suspect most of them probably can't even read.

My nephew lives in Allentown PA and just bought his first gun, a Glock 22. He is married with two small children. He is hoping for the best but anticipating the worst. He’s never been a gun guy but he is smart and sensible. First thing he did was take his wife to,the range. So proud of him taking this “leap” personally

A local gun shop only was able to get two “proceed” for long guns in two days with a huge demand at his shop. He announced he was going to stop trying and sell handguns to permit and concealed buyers. This was in Hickory.

I find that a mile long dirt road through the woods helps immensely in practicing social distancing

Which shop?

a .40 is a lot to start with...
especially for most women. but if they have it and they can use it, good.

I tried Hoppes in one of those scent diffusers with all the wooden sticks sticking out of a vase but was disappointed with the results.
Thanks for the heads up.
I was actually going to do that in my office at work and stick the label on the difuser
it still smells like carpet 6 months after we've been open and I hate it

This is my hope. I don't know if it's good to expect that to happen or not, but it's what I'd like to happen. We'll see.

The People Get Desperate When They're Hungry mindset. People are getting laid off of work. People are finding store shelves empty and even if they're not empty, how are they going to pay for goods without a job? Much of this is being mitigated by loosening unemployment requirements. But, the perception by the public is that it could turn into chaos. And, they might not trust law enforcement to protect them or realize they can't.

Struck me the same way. At first it seemed like a really stupid panic, but if so many new buyers are taking their personal future seriously and willing to act so extreme to their former mindset, we just might have us a revolution. A peaceful turning against autocratic rule, chaos, uncertainty ( and a totally wrecked stock malarky "economy.") Awakening that personal and serious motivation to face all the crap falling apart in a failed society is a hopeful sign, however clumsy it might seem. Globalists bound to be disappointed.

The assumption that left wing first time gun buyers will have a radical change in mindset about guns is a bit of a leap. It assumes some level of logic and common sense. I think they will just rationalize in their minds some justification for owning the gun, while maintaining they are not anything like us crazy gun owners.
I fear for their own safety and those around them due to lack of safety training and for everyone else's safety, because we are not dealing with rational sane people. And they are more likely to use a gun for the wrong reasons at the wrong time, getting people shot. Their perspective on guns is from the movies.
Overall, still a good thing, especially if some are responsible and seek training on skills and appropriate use, but in the current climate that may take a while.

I predict an exponential increase in straw purchases and an increase in burglaries looking for firearms.

Family and friends helping family and friends and criminals helping themselves.

FYI ... yep, I can see normally law abiding people breaking it a time of panic but that means the normally criminal thugs get an increased chance of stealing a firearm especially with new inexperienced firearms owners ... I’m not seeing a run on gun safes.

Has anyone met one these first time gun buyers?

I did but, it wasn’t during this panic.

I watched a couple with a young child buying a gun at the pawn shop where I get transfers done. They were looking up the recommended gun on YouTube ‘cause they had absolutely no idea what to buy. As they finished the transaction they asked whether the gun included ammo and were handed a box of whatever cost the least.

I met them outside and asked whether they had any ideas where to practice with their new weapon. They didn’t. I made a couple suggestions but got the impression they weren’t serious about it. I couldn’t bring myself to ask whether they had a safe. :(

It occurred to me that as guns run out of stock in stores, some will end up with whatever they can get their hands on.

I have a gun.
What do you have?
I don't know.

Sometimes you need SANITY.....but most of the time you need some humor. The politicians are humorous....but they get quoted like a genius.

Factoids of the day.... From a GUN OWNERS position. Watch out, lads and lassies.....Uncle Slow Joe ain't necessarily going to be the one. Cu0mo is gaining fame....but pandering and fanning the flames. Read some of his DIRE predictions.

Now, I admit to being a bit of a "gee, what do all of the numbers tell me?" Read the following or just the headline....

https://www.the-sun.com/news/574277/new-york-cuomo-slams-groups-mnuchin-warns-12-weeks/

Next up....if you want the REAL and INFORMED skinny....which sometimes ain't aligned with the President....pay attention to Dr. Fauci.... Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx are two of the most level headed and informed folks out there. Like the old stockbroker conmercial, when they speak....I LISTEN....

https://www.newsmax.com/us/fauci-coronavirus-italy-pandemic/2020/03/22/id/959409/

Cuomo is taking a page from the Rham Emanuel playbook.....NEVER LET A GREAT TRAGEDY OR EMERGENCY TO TO WASTE. Coumo is bucking to put Joe back in the home....

Finally....from a personal protection standpoint....not armed....I have not been in a public gathering since last Sunday. That was limited and I stocked up on some vitamins and other prepper items. I pump gas with a latex glove. I let my Amazon packages sit or stay in quarantine for 72 hours. Experts say that the life is 24. Some folks are suggesting that you come home....disrobe (both you and wife....WOOHOO) and then wash the clothes and shower (together is better). The virus in this time of the year will live longer. A month later....not as much. That is why we don't have flu epidemics in the summer and there is no "seasonal Flu outbreak" in the tropics.

Final article.....to dispute with Cuomo is selling.....

https://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/why-italy-the-factors-behind-a-coronavirus-disaster

I may post some ads.....WTT 48 Pack of Charmin....unopened. Glock 19 or 17 or higher only. Call BR549...

BTW....I am SURE that you learned readers who ACE's high school civics DO KNOW that each Gov can "bring in the National Guard". That is a STATE organization. It would take an executive order or a "Martial Law" order by the President to Federalize all of them. SO, Cuomo and Newsom and others have the POWER. Bush said that he regretted NOT Federalizing the LA NG and could have saved lives as the LA Gov and then the NO Mayor (now in jail I think) did nothing but blame him and wring their hands and talk to the press....

Yes and no.
My friend's parents bought a gun last week (well, maybe 10 days or so now).
M&P, 9mm...sorry, I dont know all the gun types.

Anyway, they've never held anything other than a shotgun before, and even that was limited.
While Ive not personally spoken with them since the buy, I was with their son and he was texting as I had questions etc
They bought a light/laser combo for it, a few boxes of ammo.
I offered them to go to PHA to practice, but we've not set anything up since then (last Saturday or Sunday).

They're bright folks, just lean left on stuff.
Mother is a nurse, father owns a distribution business of some type.
Nice folks, kind folks, but never been into guns.

Im hoping to take them shooting sometime and maybe it gets more folks like them understanding that while these are deadly weapons [dont kid yourselves, they can kill], they're also just tools and it's up to the possessor/user how they'll be used. Hopefully they'll wake up (making broad brush statement here) to the idea that gun owners arent the dangerous folks that maybe the media has depicted
