Hand checkering 1911 front strap. Anyone done it?

It’s a PSA Black Friday special. Only reason I was willing to keep filing when it looked like crap.... I was only out 100 bucks if I completely screwed it up.
So you’ve still got to fit a new 1911 together.
This could be an entire new forum post.
I’m in.
:D

Was thinking about building a Caspian and got spooked by some of the fitting work required.

Yeah, I’ve got a bunch of fitting left to mess with, but I got lucky with the big stuff.... I got a springer loaded complete slide off gunbroker for a song and it just so happens to fit the psa frame like a glove.....50 or so cycles with some lapping compound and it feels like it’s on ball bearings.

I have observed with my one Springfield that other’s 1911 parts, like Wilson, tend to drop in.
1911 smiths tell me it can’t be, but that’s my limited experience with Springer frames and slides.

The one I have worked.... the frame however is going to take some massive modification to work with a beaver tail. They are supposed to work with a .220 EGW cut, but it’s not even close

I’ve got a Wilson jig if you want to borrow it.

I did a commander length slide 9mm host from an 80% 2011 "receiver". It wasn't as tough as everyone made it out to be.

I'll get photos of the checkering I did on my old pawn shop Springer Loaded tomorrow.

You likely need to send it off. Check out Steve Owens at 1911addicts.com. I was going to send mine to him before I decided to try it myself.
