House Majority Whip Steve Scalise shot in VA

I hate to admit it...but this was my sequence of thought...

1. I hope everyone loves.
2. I hope it wasn't Ted (Budd)
3. I bet it's a liberal but job
4. Impossible, no guns are allowed in DC.

"Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., told Fox News he left just before the shooting. As he walked to his car, a man asked DeSantis if it was Republicans or Democrats practicing. About three minutes the shooting began, DeSantis said."

Sounds like someone might have been specifically targeting R's.

It's a little early for folks to be connecting dots. That could have easily been a reporter asking questions. Patience.

What bothers me most is who/what is going to catch the blame. Not the left nutjob who actually did the shooting, noooo. It was the evil gun's fault.

Lots of talk on the news about how ineffective a pistol is saying "it's like bringing a knife to a gun fight."

So was the GOP team was targeted or just a bunch of people playing ball?

MSM will kill the story since the shooter was after R's - back to your scheduled programming regarding the collusion with the russians

Given that the Majority Whip is a Republican, and from past mass shooting events, I'd bet the shooter is a liberal. One of the Congressmen at the scene described shooter as middle-aged white male.

The left has whipped their base into a frenzy with their "Resist" slogan, various Trump assassination talk, mock beheadings, etc., so this may be an outgrowth of that.

Of course, even if true, MSM will spin it away as they have done in the past.

Seems like they are already trying to spin it into an "evil gun" story and not a "crazy liberal/antifa going after republicans"

"Rep. Brad Wenstrup told Fox News he "felt like I was in Iraq but without my weapon." Sen. Jeff Flake said the congressional group were "sitting ducks.""

well f*&k me, you don't say?

Well Mr. congress-critter, actions have consequences. It's just that you've been shielded from that reality for so long that you think you're immune.

IF this was a politically motivated wacko any bets on if the R's now will get it? That the base support of their Marxst opponents in Congress are badically violent Marxists that will do anything to have power and control? That this is really a long term political war. And that playing nice to get along will end just like this morning did? Or will Mr. Ryan and Mr. McConnell do a press confer pence standing next to Schumer and Pelosi to showmthis fictional unity. And of course the budget for the Capitol Police and Secret Service will have to be increased. More government workers with more guns and bigger vehicles to protect them for the people.

Top comment I've seen so far:

"Right now CNN is trying to make up a story about how this was an alt-right member dissatisfied that Trump isn't conservative enough. You think I'm kidding? Watch. "
Haven't seen that part, but I did see where they're prattling on about it being a semiautomatic weapon.

This could very well be the event that gets the civil war really in the next stage, as may of you suggest we've been in for some time. The resist protests, the rioting from the left have been going on for over a year. With last weekends events at the anti-sharia and gay rights conflicts were other signs. Someone posted earlier in another thread that we're seeing a part of history but don't know the bigger picture quite yet.

"The gun was a semiautomatic," Brooks said, adding that he was sure it was a rifle but unsure what kind. "It continued to fire at different people. You can imagine, all the people on the field scatter."

That right there tells you all you need to know. Saying "it" instead of "him" show you exactly where they want this narrative to go. My only question is did Mr. Brooks actually say that or is CNN misquoting him to get this going in the right direction?

Will anyone call out the liberals for all their violent rhetoric? We have "comediennes" holding bloody heads and they are praising broadway for mock assassinations every night but I'm sure that doesn't encourage anyone.

Historically, the events that spark the major conflagrations have been things that in and of themselves would die out in fairly short order, but under the surrounding circumstances of being at the right time become something much bigger. The only thing that can be said either certainty is that the event is always something that couldn't have been predicted.

It will be interesting to say the least to see how congress reacts to this.

Yeah sadly I bet the R's are going to try and ban AR's now or at least a group of them will now want "common sense" gun control.

In some of the 'reporting' I've heard this morning, the suspect could have fired over a hundred rounds. My guess is this guy never went to a range, or maybe went once, because his marksmanship, thank God, was horrible.

This is the part that has me thinking this was someone not proficient with firearms.

Forgive my cynicism but no matter who the shooter was or their political affiliations, this will be spun into a call from the Left for some form of gun control legislation. Even though firearms are verboten in the District of Columbia.

The ballpark is in Alexandria, VA. But of course it wouldn't have mattered if the ballpark was located inside DC. Someone intent on murder doesn't care about gun possession laws.

Right but we need more gun control because even our own congressional representatives were targeted by an oppressed Mentally ill person that was a gun rights Supporter. If Russia had not interjected and tampered with our elections then Trump wouldn't be president and Hillary would have banned guns and closed the gun show loop hole and this tragedy wouldn't have happened. Let's do this for our children. ......said no real red blooded American ever!!!

Alexandria is in Virginia, so the DC gun laws do not apply. My wife has relatives there and she carries when visiting. But if you cross the river into DC you give up all your rights as a human being.

Only if you choose to.
