How much ammo do you feel like you need?

Don’t worry the chinese will start production plants and drive the price down. They did it on everything else.
Probably won't have much effect. One thing I believe Biden can do is ban foreign import ammo by executive order.

It’s money well spent.

I have an A/S Glock 19 that is the same size/weight and functions like the one I carry. Ain’t too many days I don’t practice with it and the time I have put it has made a significant difference at the range.

I’m a firm believer in dry-fire drills, but the airsoft route fills a “spot” that you can’t obtain with straight dry-fire practice. Everything with the airsoft pistol is the same as the “real deal” right up to the point where you have pressed the trigger. The draw, mechanics, sight picture...hell...even the trigger/trigger reset is very similar to my carry weapon. The big difference is recoil, noise, follow-up shots...other than that, everything is exactly the same.

Give it a shot...I think you’ll be glad you did.
If you’re wondering if airsoft training can be a viable tool and translate to firearms training, watch this!!! I forgot this video existed until you mentioned it.

Depends on the gun. Thousands for my ARs. 500-1000 loaded for most of my high power hunting rifles. Thousands for my pistol caliber rifles. Thousands for my pistols.

He wouldn't do that to his puppet masters over in China though. How many EOs has he already signed that got China heavily back into the US?

Chinese ammo's been banned from import since 1994. Now for those of us who appreciate cheap and plentiful Russian steel cased stuff, there's plenty to sweat.

Hell, if Biden's so indebted to China maybe he'll actually bring back Chinese ammo, and we can get our hands on some of the cheap stuff Canadian shooters enjoy so much.*

*Yes, I realize this will never happen.

Now I really want one
Just buy one that uses Green Gas and not CO2. You can get an adapter for the 5lb propane bottles and use that and get it at any camping section store. Read up and watch videos about the guns and look at reviews before you buy. While not "perfect" they can be a blast and cheap to shoot. My son and I have "competitions" all the time. Get yourself a timer and hone your skills for drawing, etc.

I never knew this was a thing!!! I just ordered a HK VP9 gas blowback with an extra mag, some biodegradable 20gr pellets, and two gas cans to get started with. I always thought airsoft were just toy guns. This will mean I can actually get out in my yard and train with my daughter and wife! Then occasionally use some live ammo. I'm super excited!

I wouldn't stand forward of the muzzle like the instructor is doing in the video - maybe it is a camera angle.

When I worked for a cash in transit company they contracted with a service that did training using gas operated handguns connected to a scuba tank and an interactive movie screen. It was pretty intense. It was made for police training so the scenarios weren't always applicable to our industry but they were intense. When I was done I was sweating and I hadn't even moved!

😊 Awesome!

What's good is having one gun or 200 guns if you don't have ammo to feed each and every one. I think a minimum to have is a 1000 rounds for every gun you have. . All depends on how much shooting are you going to do. Whether its for recreation or personal protection you need what you need. No less
.I prefer to have a stash that I won't touch unless the sh!t hits the fan.

Some say(from former socialist countries) 2000 rounds per gun/caliber....so rec shooting has been put on hold, reloading and dry fire training....if I still have any guns.

I'll let when ya know when that occurs.......
This may take a loooooong time.

I read one members post saying stock up on jhp ammo and plenty of ball to practice with. If you can't find jhp defense ammo shoot whatcha got .At the PD I was taught to keep shooting till the threat is stopped. If it takes three or four rounds of ball ammo to stop the threat then shoot the SOB till he's down and not a threat any longer. I have not seen any defence ammo for sale except here and other forums but I will not pay 50¢ to a $1.00 and up for 9mm ammo when I have plenty of ball and know where to put it in the body..I can load all the ball ammo and lead round nose ammo I will ever need. I love heavy cast booolits for magnum revolvers and have heads for several 1000 44's and 41 mags .Cast booolits are good for game or any threat

Shooting is boring unless it’s serious practice or competition. So, 200-400 rounds per session, 2-4 times a month preferably. And 500/month for matches. That is what I’d like to have.
It’s a lot of ammo and I do not have it.

So disc golf it is.

Although, you jerkwads now have me thinking about kweer airsoft guns. If they make CZs I may be in. (Sips expresso with pinky out smugly....).

Yep, that’s why I like a .357mag ... .357mag, .38special or if you must even anemic .38wadcutters ... all drill holes some just do it a lot better however they all are better than a sharp stick.

Remember why the Winchester Widow continued construction on her mansion?
An Indian Chief told Sarah Winchester that to atone for all the harm that her (late) husband's rifles did to the Native American people, she could never stop building on her house and estate, or the spirits would consume her.
And she never did stop. Even building into the nonsensical and absurd, as well as tearing things apart and rebuilding them differently..over and over.
Everything is 13. 13 steps, 13 panes of glass in the window, 13 doors in a room, 13 chairs at the table..
By today's standards, she was a billionaire. Money wasn't an issue. The gardens are spectacular, and the gun museum is amazing.
There are many long time employees who are convinced the place is indeed haunted, and many unexplained things have, and continue to happen.
The place is a trip. If you're in the area you need to see it.

Considering that last 4th of July (2020) I burnt through 300 rounds of 9mm and 250 rounds of 5.56 NATO in less than an hour -- and only that long to swap uppers and allow barrels to cool -- let's just say that I feel the need to have tens of thousands of rounds and that I have far less than I'd like to.

Shooting SMG's and MG's tends to bring about the aforementioned kind of mentality. It's not a matter of hoarding; it's just a matter of keeping the machines fed...

If I was to count what I actually have in live ammunition 22LR though 9mm, 45ACP, 5.56/223 and .308 I am some where in the 20 to 25K range. Honestly if I ever need more than that God be with me.

Makes you wonder. OP joined 1-12-21. 8 posts to date. All in this one thread. Seems to have a very narrow focus of interest.
True! Wasn‘t intended as a shot at OP, just seemed to fit the overall conversation and the times we live in!

My neighbor has exactly 3 cartridges for his 30-06 hunting rifle. I’d say that might not be enough. So more is always better. You can always sell it, trade it or give it away to a friend. Stored properly it won’t go bad any time soon.

I bought a box of 45 acp and a box of 22LR when I bought a new rifle a few weeks ago. That is the only ammo I have purchased in more than 6 months.

Man you guys are a tough crowd. You are right I am new and thought I would try to add value to the site by asking a genuine question to prompt thoughtful discussion instead of just cherry picking off the classifieds. In doing so I’ve had my dedication to the shooting sports questioned and basically been called a narc. I certainly do not know as much as some on here but would venture to say I know a lot more than others. I have a family and a job that require a lot of my time. When I get the time to comment on another post that I feel I can add value to I will do so. In the meantime I will stick with the 2 ears 1 mouth adage and try to learn from those willing to pass along quality information. Again, thank you to those that have provided meaningful input to an honest question.

We've been here before (2012-13). The market may take longer to recover this time, but I'm thinking that the "used" gun market is going to have some bargains within the next year.

In the meantime, good suggestions have been made, airsoft, pellet, etc.

My end goal is to have, at least, 2 guns for every caliber I load. For my magnums (357, 44, 460) I want my 2nd gun to be a lever action. I'm spending on all the other things I want/need first. Lever actions won't be targeted for a long time. :D
