Hurricane Florence predictions

Well, it hasn’t happened yet. I have seen lots of crazy lines on maps.
It's so nice out right now, all calm and sunny, it's hard to believe a mess is headed our way! The waiting and suspense are killing me!!!!

I'm not smart enough nor is anyone around me. We are, as a group considering setting up camp in a set of steel shipping containers on high ground.

I am happy to hear that you and yours are in GTFO mode. Be safe and we'll see ya on the other side.

Crazy tracks - I'll believe it when it actually goes the way they predict- regardless, anyone who is a possible hit oughta be really well prepped and hunkered in high ground or else be headed for the hills. Good luck to all and dont let your guard down.

It's the weirdest storm track in the Carolinas I can recall.

Wasn't it Floyd back in '99 that did something really weird? If memory serves, I think it came in like Florence and then went south and skirted the Florida coastline before doing a 180 out to sea came back up and stalled on the NC coastline. One of them did something like that and I was thinking it was Floyd.

Hurricane Ivan was the one that did the loop. It really screwed up the mountains good, too.

Floyd caused massive flooding in Horry. Nothing since has been close.

You're correct. There was devastating flooding in NC and SC. It just sat there and dumped the rain without moving horizontally.

Sometimes toget away from the talking heads I find weather pages that are even geekier than I can understand:

Some data: https://www.americanwx.com/bb/model...un_time=12z&param=500mbHGHT&map=NA&run_hour=0

Their discussion: https://www.americanwx.com/bb/topic/51511-hurricane-florence/?page=41

I read their threads quite often. Those guys are serious hobbyists and pro meteoreologists. They're ahead of the curve on most weather systems. These guys saw it turning South before a single forecast called it.

Isn't eating there at some locations sorta bringing ones life into question ?

I have a good buddy that was a little down year's ago and got a job with Waffle House in their Management Program. He had to go to the Waffle House Academy or some such thing. At the end they presented him with an award for best score ever at the course. They asked him if he was surprised he did so well. He said no, he thought he'd do prety well, it is Waffle House after all. Needless to say that gig didn't last him long. He got tired real fast of the ex-con employees stealing all the bacon from the cooler.

There's no Waffle House in my town, but there is a Huddle House. I believe they are similar.

When Hugo came through, I hung out with my buddy, who happened to be a DJ at the local radio station. That station was just up the street from Huddle House. We walked from the station to there, had a meal (I loved the chicken melts), then walked back.

It was a very memorable night.

News is saying cat 2 now!!

I go to wxrisk on facebook. He's out of Richmond, but is the most accurate forecaster I know, especially with winter weather.

RE: Waffle House, a long time ago in Hillsborough it was the only thing open after 11, when I was with EMS we'd stop in for coffee or dinner or bfast, whatever the case was. In college it was great hangover/post-binge-drinking food. It has it's place in Americana

Ventusky weather wind/precip maps:

https://www.ventusky.com/?p=34.30;-76.66;6&l=temperature-2m

interactive map lets you see any (X,Y,Z,T) you like, pan and zoom, select what data to show (wind speeds, precip, etc.) See predictions for wind speed and direction at your location.

Here in Charlotte I'm seeing that starting tonight I should expect 30-40mph wind gusts from the North, continuing through Sunday then switching to SE winds. This is good news for me because any tree damage from that will most likely miss my house

That is so cool! Thanks...I think...I'm getting a little into my head with all the weather things the last couple of days! But I like it!
So far nothing is happening here.

I must be doing the precip wrong; every time I put the cursor anywhere at any time it's like 0.01".
