AS A PRIOR VICTOM OF A HACKING ON THIS SITE, I CANNOT EMPHASIZE HOW IMPORTANT "MULTI-FACTOR ENABLED" IS!

In a nutshell (for those who haven't figured this out yet), "multi-factor enabled" just means you need two things to log into the site, which makes hacking into your account MUCH more difficult. I have it set up so that when I log in using my password, the site emails me a login verification email which contains a 6 digit code (valid for 15 minutes) I have to enter as part of the full login process.

I believe you can also set this up to use your phone as well, where it texts you the code. Don't quote me on that, because I haven't looked recently to check.


I used to think "Who cares? This isn't my bank/credit union, what harm could someone do since they can't access my money?"

Well, guess what? In addition to screwing with your account, by which other people on this site know you, it turns out they CAN screw people over financially. How, you may ask? Well, we have a Classifieds section where people buy/sell/trade.

And guess what some hacker managed to do after hacking into my account? He set up a fake sale and stole someone else's money.

Fortunately, my account was rapidly identified as having been hacked and was locked until someone notified me and I was able to regain control of it.


While losing your own money would be bad, imagine how badly you would feel if someone else lost their money over something you could have done to prevent it through basic security measures. A thief is responsible for theft, true...but we're all individually responsible for not making it easy for the thief in the first place.
