Mandalorian Season 3

I was all into wanting to watch the series until they fired Gina Carano.
She was terrible. I don’t think she should’ve been fired but she was horrible. She couldn’t have been more stiff.

I got to see today’s new episode was pretty darn good! Lots of action! Today’s episode is definitely one of the better of the new season.

So is Mando not the main character anymore? I feel like he has been relegated to a side character mostly.

Who’s the main character in any of the Star Wars series? They’re all ensemble pieces.

right?!?!!
I think i was so excited that a fart slipped out. which happens anyway, but still, i was excited!

When they were in hyperspace next to the Purrgils in a previous episode, I was like "don't get my hopes for a Rebels crossover up just to crush them"

The history of the Dark Saber is not a straight line and even though it seems like it. It is not like the Elder Wand in Harry Potter which has a master who must obtain the Saber defeating its owner in combat.

These are the people who have processed the Dark Saber

  • Tarre Vizsla: He is the original owner and builder of the Dark Saber. The only Mandalorian Jedi this was around 1032 BBY. It was taken from him and placed in the Jedi Temple
  • Pre Vizsla: He and other members of Death Watch stole back around 21 BBY. He attempts to use it to reunite the Mandalore.
  • Darth Maul: He killls Pre Vizsla and takes the Saber but he is defeated by Dark Sidious but he does not take the saber. Maul has it as late as BBY 19. He is eventually killed b Obwan but the Saber is long gone.
  • Kanan Jarrus: In Rebels Sabine Wren gets the Saber from the Nightsisters and gives it to the only Jedi she knows which Kanan Jarrus.
  • Sabine Wren: Kanan Jarrus gives it back to Sabine and tries to train her to use it.
  • Bo-Katan Kryze: Sabine Wren then gives it to Bo-Katan so she can reunite Mandalore. She fails and the result is The Great Purge in during the Emperial Era. She flees and leaves the Saber.
  • Moff Gideon: He was a general in the Purge and ends up with the Saber around 9 ABY.
  • Din Djarin: Defeats Gideon and takes possession of the saber but offers it to Bo-Katan who refuses it because she had to win it in battle.
So when you look at the history the possession of the Dark Saber has really only moved from one owner to another via direct combat twice. The Saber has never united the Mandalorians it has almost always divided them. I think that is will do that again. Din Djarin is the owner of the Saber in the eyes of The Watch. They will not follow Bo-Katan if Din Djarin is still alive. She would be seen once again as a pretender.

The Mythosaur in the room is the other prophecy which The Armorer alludes to. That the return of the Mythosaur will be the start of the new era of Mandalore. It is not clear that Din Djarin saw it. Bo-Katan knows the old stories and prophecies. The Mythosaur is central to the Mando culture and is axiomatic. It is the origin point. It is older than the Dark Saber and one who can bring it back and maybe even "ride it" like their ancestors will trump the owner of the Dark Saber.

To me this is the conflict. She is not going to get the Dark Saber. DF & JF along with the director of Episode 2 Rachel Morrison make sure that you see that Din Djarin is still in possession of the Saber at the end of Episode 3. They zoom in on the Saber on his belt. I think he is going to retain the Saber and she will bring the Mythosaur and their factions will fight for control. The Dark Saber will once again be a source of division not unity. The question becomes who wins and in what manner. I believe that The Armorer has a hidden agenda. She knows more than she tells Mando and might be using him to meet her goals.

I agree 100% that the show took a huge leap towards what we want to see. He is my wild theory. Who in the show can both wield a lightsaber and control an animal? Grogu is the only one and he is a now both a Mandalorian Foundling and a Jedi.
Close...

Today's episode is garbage. Terrible acting, terrible writing, Saturday morning cartoon quality dialogue. FF to the last two minutes because the first 44 should have been cut in editing.

I believe the acting and dialog in this series is just as bad or possibly even worse than the Obi Wan episodes. A true disappointment. They could have done so much better.

What was it about the acting that was so bad. All the Mandalorians are basically flat and it is hard to emote behind a helmet. The Night Owls could have been done a little better.
The 3 major cameos where fine within the context of the show. Lizzo and the Jack Black characters were just ok. I think they were used as a backdoor to showing that the remnants of Empire are still strong and meddling in the mid and outer rim. They are setting up the return of Moff Gideon. The Christopher Lloyd cameo so so subtle it could have been played by anyone. The character came off as believable and it made sense there would still be Separatist loyalist in the outer rim. It was not the best episode but it moved the story forward. Hat off to @DrScaryGuy he called the secession of the Dark Saber. It will be interesting to see if it becomes the uniting force it is said to be.

I dunno enough about acting to say more than “it sucked”. Three terrible cameos in one scene… m’lord and m’lady jumped the space shark.
I'll for sure say they tried to make it "fun' and overshot the mark.

I don't think there is a lot of great acting in the series, but it's more of a story that a lot of people are into. Acting peformances that are ok....the lady Jedi who was to teach group and the space craft mechanic.

thinking back - we're all too old to quickly catch what they were trying to do
They were 100% trying to portray it similar to the people in the capitol city of Hunger Games - that's why it was so over the top and silly, because that's how it was in the hunger games books/movies. I think younger folks would be more likely to understand it immediately.

Jack and Lizzo are people that were wealthy under the galactic republic, and wealthy under the empire, and were "rehabilitated" and got to stay wealthy under the new republic. Because legacy and dynasty. You don't put poor folks with no experience running a city in charge of a city if you want it to keep running.
Christopher Lloyd was a holdout from the separatist commonwealth of independent planets (aka the districts).

First two seasons were great,it was actually must see TV for me.
This season I'll watch it sometime during the week if nothing else is on knowing I'm going to be disappointed

That's what happens when Kathleen Kennedy gets involved. Apparently Favreau was ready to quit if she didn't start backing off. She is the only reason that Grogu is still in it from what I've seen.

They screened S3E7 at Celebration this weekend for those in attendance and I believe showed a teaser trailer for S3E8. All the SW Youtube accounts I follow said that these last two episodes FINALLY make all of S3 make sense and set up the Ashoka series. One Youtuber even recommended re-watching the Force Awakens as there are some unexpected connections with events and characters.

I'm a MASSIVE SW fan. The OG that is. I have EU books that could stack to the ceiling. I officially stopped watching Mando last week. :(

Ashoka is their final chance to keep me interested. Love the clone war and rebels animated series. If they try to bring Thrawn, one of the greatest villains in all of fictional history, into this woke BS, then they've officially lost a lifetime fan.

My brain is telling me it is guaranteed garbage if it is connected to the sequals trilogy in any way. Lol.

They are setting up the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn and the birth of the First order.

There are so many hints that the Armorer is not being 100% upfront. I have felt this way since she was dismissive of Bo Katan seeing the Mythosaur. She then pivots and tells Bo Katan to take off her helmet and bring the other Mandalorians to reunite the tribes. She basically gives up the dogma that has defined her character. This struck me as odd.

In the meeting of the Shadow Council it is clear Gideon has a plan to eliminate all the remaining Mandalorians finishing off the Great Purge he started. He asks for Tie Fighters, Bombers, A Cruiser and Praetorian Guards. They are setting up the Ahsoka storylines and tying into the sequel trilogies. The show and talk about cloning, the Shadow Council has Hucks father on it and of course Grand Admiral Thrawn etc... I predict Thrawn will be the super bad guy in both Ashoka and DF's feature film.

Now after episode 7 there is lots of talk about the Armorer as a spy. There are a lot of tells that she is working with Moff Gideon. Why does she did she go on the small mission. She has not done that before. The only time she has ever left the safety of the coverts location was when the entire covert went to fight. She then leaves with the wounded just as Moff Gideon arrives. The shots of The Armorer flying away with the wounded is telling. They keep going back to it and they show her going through the atmosphere but never show her breaking from it into space where the Nite Owls fleet is waiting. I assume the Nite Owls cruiser will be under attack in the season finale.

One tie in with the Armorer and Gideon is the Beskar Armor. Who made it? Gideon's helmet is also similar with the horns on the top like members of Death Watch. They are not exactly the same but similar. The other clue is that there was beskar in the shuttle that Gideon was extracted from. This means that a Mandalorian was involved in Gideons escape. The real question is if she is a spy what is her end game.

As side comment I was listening to a breakdown on New Rockstars and they pointed out a interesting fact about Mandalorian. It is at it essence a kids show. It has to be simplistic so that 8 year olds understand it. They then buy the toys and then grow up to be adults who buy toys. It has to be written at a simplistic level. Compare it to Andor which is an adult show written for an adult audience. That is why it has so much more character development. It is not being written to entertain kids in order to sell toys.

You can say the same thing with just about any Star Wars movie/franchise. Hell, my mom probably bought me $1,000 of merch by the end of 1977.

I agree some of the franchise shows are targeted to adult audiences, though. Andor does have more complexity and nuance for sure. And Mandalorian? Who doesn't want a plush 'baby Yoda'?

Yup most of us are grown a%% adults watching a kids show buying kids toys. 🤣 😂 😄

Originally 20th Century Fox bailed on the Merch for Star Wars because it did not screen well. Lucas put up the money to keep the Merch in production. Most of his money came from the Merch. Kenner was the original manufacturer and they only got the deal because everyone else passed on what was perceived as a loser. They did not get the contract until just before the movie released. You pre-order the stuff because it was not in production. Kenner made $100 Million + in 1978-1979 mainly on Star Wars stuff.

@wvsig, I am no huge fan, my daughter got me into this and it’s okay, but it seems that what I saw differs from the writeup you shared.
The armorer and injured did get out of atmosphere and see the fleet, not under attack. I was expecting it, and we see MG order the attack, so we know that it’s coming, but I don’t think it had launched by the end of the episode.
About the armor, does seem like there is now a lot being deployed quietly by the factions of the empire, on top of a bunch of mercenary Mandolorians, I don’t know how it is being made, but the presence on MGs prison transport doesn’t tell me who freed him.

Yes I mistyped she does break the atmosphere prior to the attack but I think the rest stands. The Tie Interceptors are going to take the stolen Nite Owl's fleet back. Canon says only Mandolorians can forge Beskar. The use of the blue flame and the mixture is a guarded secret. That is why The Armorer has the station she does. It is why The Covert cannot exist without her and Bo Katan acknowledges her station. Now that does not mean Gideon could not make something similar. I look at the title of the episode. "Spies" it is plural. We know one but who is the other. Elia Kane is the first who is the second.

Another theory out there is that it is the "survivors" on the Planet. They would have seen and heard the construction. They also came up on the exploring party almost immediately. They also lead them right into the trap.

The prevailing theory is that she is Rook Kast. She was Gar Saxon's 2nd in command. She was a member of Death Watch and The Shadow Collective run by Maul. She was a Separatist which would tie into the Christopher Lloyd character from episode 6. He as a Maul loyalist. Dave Filoni loves to bring back lesser known characters from the Clone Wars and even non -cannon and expand their role in the new universe. In the Clone Wars she does not have horns on her helmet. In some of the comics she has them. They are of course present on the Armorers helmet. Mandos who supported Maul put them on their helmets to emulated the horns on mauls head. They also painted their armor red and black. She participated in the Siege of Mandalore and was caught. This means she would have timeline connect to Gideon if she is the "Spy". She later escaped and there is no mention of her death or what happen to her.

Bo Katan kicked Rook Kast's butt in The Clone Wars as Death Watch "splintered into many factions". Her hate for Bo Katan would be deeply rooted in her being. She was a power hungry top level Commando Assassin for the Shadow Collective. The missing part is where did she learn to forge Beskar. That is not part of her narrative from The Clone Wars. Another thing that is interesting is that she never uses a blaster. She only uses the hammers as weapons. She also does not have vambraces. She is very low tech. Kast used all manner of Mandalorian weapons.

I liked the space western that was S1. But I'm done watching whatever this is. I just don't care what happens next.

Rumor is that Jon Favreau was pushed out of his show. He made the original story for the season, but other writers actually wrote the dreck it has become. Notice that they killed off Favreau's character, and Filoni, not Favreau, is making the Avengers style movie this is all moving towards.

My prediction for finale:
Din Djarin will die.
Bo Katan will be the Mandalorian moving forward.
The Emperor will show up. Now that Favreau is out, they are full steam ahead towards tying in with the movies. Note Navarro now looks like Galaxys Edge? Peak stupid would be bringing the Emperor into this, which is why I expect it.

Lots of action in today’s episode which was pretty cool, but the end felt like a series final, not a season final.
