mass market 1911s, are spares readily available and drop-in?

I got the message.

The OP's question still rings loudly in my ears, along with the fact I have no way to understand what the magnetism is for the 1911 until I can try a few.

Coming to the avocation late in life (early 60s) I have both the benefit of not having a legacy to fund and the handicap of not possessing fundamental background experience that others have.

I do know that I was wholly underwhelmed by any of the Glocks I tried, so, I didn't get any. Maybe my 1911 quest will end the same way.

As the resident CZfool it‘s hard to argue with @NKD post. I love my CZ’s. But 1911’s are my favorite gun to shoot. It’s probably partly ergonomics and partly mental since my Dad’s old Colt 1911 was the first non-22LR he ever let me shoot. Loved shooting that thing. But I also understand where @Jayne is coming from. I’m by no means a gunsmith, and the care and maintenance on a 1911 is more involved than other guns. I get not wanting to deal with all that. But if you are not a total fat fingered fool like me a 1911 isn’t hard to deal with.

Be interesting if/when they offer those with optics options from the factory. The human sized ones, not the meme guns.

I always thought the MK23 was a meme until I actually put my hands on one. It's actually really well balanced and even my medium-sized hands can operate the controls with ease. Too bad H&K made the price higher than a Willie Nelson, Phish, and Snoop Dog concert.

I bought my first 1911 in 1982 from Springfield and I like 1911's. I've shot that gun in countless comps and have hundreds of thousand rounds thru it over the years. The only parts that are original are the frame and slide. Everything else has been replaced at least once using Wilson drop in components. I'm no gunsmith and I didn't need to be, using the Wilson parts. Maybe back then they were true mil spec guns and now they are not ? Not sure.
