For those of you that aren’t familiar with @mckenziedrums Work. I highly advise you visit his Etsy page and buy a pen. I own three. Lost one. And one has been my edc pen for two years now. My wife who knows how much I value my McKenzie pens purchased me a pen from a local craft fair from some other guy this past week. Awesome thought. And great gift. But the quality isn’t there.(of course I won’t be telling her this for a little bit to protect feelings and the likelihood of me never getting another impromptu gift again) For her it’s a pretty pen. And it’s pretty. But for me it’s a tool I use 50 hours a week minimum. Her reasoning was that mine is looking rough and maybe it is time I get another one due to “professionalism”.
My pen after 2 years of heavy use is still amazing in comparison to most of the turned pens I’ve seen. But the finish is worn down to the metal in several places and the clip needs tightened about every other day. I’ve gone through about 20 or so refill cartridges and it feels better in the hand than any other pen I’ve used.
My question for drums: can I get my pen refurbished? Or once acrylic is mounted in a pen body is it there for good? If not I’m in the market for another.
Here’s a look at how it’s held up over the last couple years:
