Just having to post this because over the last few months I have messaged so many members in the classifieds to only get no response at all or get something like "Oh.....sorry, I need to delete that". I actually had one member contact me by text, when he responded that it was already sold, I asked him to PLEASE delete or mark his post sold......That post is still active and under "for sale". I get my posts deleted or etc. if i dont post pictures or something like this. If we are going to get regulated for such things then these old/expired/un-attended posts REALLY need to be regulated and deleted or updated. Its so aggrivating to navigate through hundreds of posts to finally find something youre looking for, message the member and get either no response at all or to be told its already sold. Honestly......it takes 20 seconds of your life to click "sold". There are numerous posts right now that if you read down through the messages, items were sold days, weeks, or more ago. PLEASE.......SOMEONE.........help get these posts filtered out and removed.

Thanks,

Considering that this forum is more than a clearing house for people's unwanted stuff, I don't see this happening. The classified section is a perk of the forum rather than its main purpose. Plenty of sites for that if this one doesn't suit you. Mods have enough to do keeping us crazies in line.

If I go digging past the first couple pages and see something that's listed but hasn't been bumped in a while, I definitely start by asking if the item is still available. Doesn't seem like a huge inconvenience for me to make that my first question.

Youve been waiting to use that one for awhile, haven’t you?
Nope, but it just seemed so fitting I had to go find and post it. Honestly most of the folks here seem fairly sane. Fortunately the crazy ones are right nutters so I fit in.

The only way we would be able to monitor this is to go through and compare every ad to the individual feedback to see if we could get a match. Even then...what are the odds a person that is so lazy they can't mark the ad "sold" will go to the trouble to actually leave feedback? Rather unlikely.

We have no way of knowing for sure if something is sold or not if nobody leaves feedback. You're asking for a massive amount of time and effort to be spent on this.

People need to update their own ads and not try to rope in moderators unless something goes wrong with the deal and we need to step in.

Some friendly advice...
A complaint from the cheap seats probably doesn't carry much weight.

Back when I was on a HOA board I took complaints from people who weren't invested in the neighborhood and dropped them in the round file. If the person was a neighbor I'd offer them a seat on the volunteer board so they could use all that extra energy and time they had to resolve their problem.

You understand that the mods here are volunteers, and that you have paid nothing for the privilege of the use of the classifieds.

Damn y’all are harsh today. I was gonna ask about a way to delete old BST ads so the alphabet boys couldn’t scroll through one day when something that was legal now isn’t legal was bought or sold but now ima just go hide under my sink and cry…

Wearing a blue suit in a room full of brown shoes. Lol. No need to reply here. I stick by the original post.
Evening gentlemen. ;)
You are welcome to volunteer to clean up the BST section.

Be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

Give me the authorization.........

No. We don't know you. Who are you?

This isn't some random internet forum. This forum was started by a bunch of people that know each other in real life.

This thread is the only place you've really interacted with anyone outside of BST activity. Should we hand the keys over to someone who couldn't be bothered to actually be part of the conversation here? A member who has 30 posts, didn't pay for a membership, and has only complained about the way things are outside of selling stuff?

I was told to do it myself.......so ....... give me the authorization........if i dont do it.......revoke it. Simple

No, not simple. Pay attention for a moment.

If you are active here and actually have some skin in the game and prove yourself to be trustworthy, then maybe you could become a moderator. There is zero reason to hand any moderator privileges to a complete stranger who only seems to a) operate in the BST area and b) complain.

You could become part of the solution but none of your prior actions would indicate that is the case.

Stick around. Be part of the community and participate outside of selling and maybe one day we would seriously consider it.

You pay attention......look up. Read the posts. Your own member told me to "fix it myself". So..... give me the authorization and i will.
You dont want to do that,
Its much easier to bludgeon someone to death on here than to address the actual issue because you or one of your friends on here got "butthurt" and cant respond like an adult.
Posts like this have been made on several other forums of wich get addressed or handled accordingly.
Not surrounded, swarmed and attacked like a pack of coyotes on the wounded deer.
This was a simple post that addressed a simple and obvious issue of which im not the only one concerned. Read up a few messages and youll see that.
I stick by the original post because its basic, common sense.
And also stick to the statement that if your member says i should do it myself then give me the authorization and see.....
That being said, there are many others on here that have the same issue and have stated such.

Gentlemen, have a great evening and God bless.

Heck I have been here from the start and I don’t trust me with that kind of power…

Might want to be here more than a minute before you get the keys to the kingdom.

The BST part is just an addition to the forum. We like it like it is and are not looking to be everything for everyone.

But then this is a local dive bar….

Your ask was a little coarse and unrealistic.

I don’t disagree with you that the tendency of us forumites to pile on is a bit much. I’m guilty myself.

Gentlemen, have a great evening and God bless.

Explain to me how you're going to solve the issue of figuring out which items are sold and not marked that way correctly. Are you going to reach out to each seller and ask them? How far back are you willing to check the ads? What if the seller never responds to you? What if there is no corresponding feedback posts that verify it has been sold?

Not saying this is the right answer here, but on some forums they auto close classifieds after 6 months of no activity, using something like this.

I like this. If there is an automated solution, let's do it.
If there isn't, then just leave it be.
If I still close my own ads instead of having them auto-closed, give me a gold star, or a cookie, or something.

Have you reported any of the posts where things that have been sold were not marked as such? That’s where I would start. You don’t need to be a mod to do that.

Hey I love automation! @amnesia is this something we could use?

I like this new guy, he’s happy to call us put for our feral pack tendancies.

My only advice is to join up, once you pay you get access to resources related to BST that will help you filter things out. $20 to find out. but the free advice is that if it’s older than 5 days it’s sold, overpriced, or requires a BOS,

I too think this is a good idea. The permissions on the BST threads are such that normal users can't refresh thread date, only staff or the OP. Consequently, if it hasn't had any activity in a certain amount of time, it is likely safe to say the posting is stale. If the OP is an active member of the form, and most BST types aren't, then it is also likely they would show some interest in maintaining their stuff. Again, point being, I think closing old BST posts after a certain amount of inactivity is logical.

I see that Amnesia has already been ping'ed.

No matter what we do, bet we get requests like "Hey, how come you shut down my ad? Can you unlock it and mark it as available"?
