Bought a velcro cobra belt from a highly rated mom and pop shop online. It will be two yrs in Sept - velcro is already failing. I feel I got burned but is this common? I bought it so I could make fine adjustments as opposed to leather buuuuut...

Is it leather or bust from here?

Recommendations?

I've got a 5.11 duty belt with velcro closure. It's not every day use, but probably 2-3 times per week. Other than some chips in the black paint on the buckle, there's no other signs of wear. Going on 5-6 years old.

EDIT: Pardon me. It' s a "5.11 Tactical Trainer Belt." https://www.amazon.com/5-11-Tactica...qid=1493644246&sr=8-7&keywords=5.11+duty+belt

That may be your problem: your belt didn't have the word "tactical" in the name.

A belt will hold your pants up for a decade, but a few years of toting a gun around will soften one up quite a bit. My MTR leather belt has served me well for about 2 years now, but its starting to loose a little stiffness.

I have to put in a vote for Beltman Belts. They are double layer leather belts. I have been running them for years and they are still stiff. There is a 7-hole option which I really like. Those holes are spaced 3/4" apart vs a more standard pattern of 5 holes with 1" spacing, which helps fine tune the fit.

My MTR belt fell apart after about a year. My fatboy belt has been wore daily for 4 or so years. I sweat in it, I've used it to take off fuel filters, and gernerally beat the hell out of it. Still good as new.

Fat boy belts. Problem solved. @gunbelt
This:
Only issue I have is some dress slack loops are a bit tight for it. Ive had mine for a while (not good with timeframes but pretty sure its been over a year) and the only thing that has changed is now I don't worry if I gotta take 'em down fast for an unexpected no. 2.......

Same, only mine was nearly everyday for three or four years.

Then I got my Fatboy updated and the nylon sees very little wear.

See this chaps my ass. I try to buy local and/or small business but I may as well just stick with the big name made in China crap if it works better anyways.

I'll pile on. Get with gunbelt for a good leather. It will last longer than you.

The only other leather belt that I've found I like are the Trakline belts. They have a ratcheting style belt buckle that allows tiny adjustments.

I've been running my fatboy belt extra thick version since 2o12.... It's really the only belt I wear. Add some leather conditioner to it every now and then....

I buy pants based on whether my Fatboy XL will fit in the loops. After having a "real" belt everything else pales in comparison. And if you buy in person you get starstruck with the unique personage that is @gunbelt

I've worn mine for at least 5 years now and carry every day.

Here recently I have run into a few situations where I have to dress up and that belt won't fit. Curt made me a thinner and narrower version for my dress pants and it works just as well.

@gunbelt will make it to your spec if you need different spacing or wide/thickness too...

I have them in black/brown and wear them everyday. Love 'em... I'm not one for homer products for the sake of being a homer, but this is a product I will get behind.

Leather didn't work for me, i've got some back issues and leather belts just sit oddly around my waist to the point they bend and look like a triangle instead of a circle.

Recently picked up an RDR cobra belt that has been fantastic. Now, it is STIFF, but works well and not showing any signs of wear on 6 months (small sample size but so far so good). They are made in the US and all products come with a lifetime warranty.

I'm a huge bellied fat guy and other belts always turn into a pretzel from my gut pressure, my fatboy belts haven't deformed a whit while being amazingly comfortable.

He uses incredibly good latigo leather that doesn't roll, warp or anything else my shit belts have done. These are heirloom belts.

Another hit for Fatboy Belts! I need to order one myself!

Whoa whoa whoa. When did this become an option? Us skinny folks gots to have options! @gunbelt I could definitely go for a skinny version. My work radio has a hard time fitting on my current belt.

Let me know size & I'll check the slimline blem rack.

Three minutes. That my friends is the customer service we two fools leather goods customers speak to. Go ahead and keep buying inferior Chinese products from a distribution center in LA or Atlanta. Mines more better.
Thanks Curt!

And them chicom belts wont pass thru a detector neither

I've been using the same Wilderness Tactical Frequent Flyer belt every day for over two years and the velcro still performs as new. The one I had before that was used daily for over 3 years and the velcro was still working well. I only replaced the belt because of weight loss. Not all velcro belts are created equal. I have used a few different leather belts, Fatboy being one of them. Even though the Fatboy was the best of the bunch, I still love the micro-adjustability of my Wilderness. I use nothing else.

I love leather belts but I also have a 5.11 web belt that I have worn everyday for 5 years. It still looks and functions as it did on day one.

Get curt to resize it.
^this^

He can add holes, if you're confident the weight is going to stay off, he can shorten the belt.

He did both of mine while I waited one day. Doesn't take long at all. Or you can mail them back and forth.

Going on 4yr with my current wilderness 5 stitch.
I prefer Velcro for the infinite adjustability, like you.

I've got two Fatboy belts. Brown and black. Lost some weight, and cut off two inches from the belts myself so the excess wouldn't get tangled up in mag pouches. Easy peasy. I wear one everyday, including matches every weekend. They are nearly indestructible.

I just realised I STILL haven't sent Curt my two long belts to cut down. Must be going on two years I've been meaning to get that done. Man I am going senile.
