Mechanic 3: Well Mr. Enginerd, stick your hand up in there and get the wrench on that fastener and get it loose when you only have 3/4 inch to swing the wrench from side to side. And I dont care if you can't see the bolt, you'll just have to do it by feel. šŸ˜”
Yeah, I would occasionally run into equipment that was designed in a way that made it hard to inspect, let alone install, maintain or repair in any reasonable/efficient way. Frustrating for everyone, and fortunately my job was not a 100% pass/fail enforcement, so we could work with the installers to figure out a more reasonable way to make corrections if needed.

Ironically, we had installers who came to appreciate our inspections because it helped them do the job right and not get undercut by other installers who would bid lower, cut corners, and get away with it.

We also earned respect for seeming to have more concern for the safety of the installers/operators than the project managers/developers/engineers appeared to at times. We caught several issues over the years in electrical equipment that would have maimed or killed someone when they energized it, so folks came to know that we had their back.

He got a few gigs and was very frustrated the norm was, ā€œIf you find a way to make this for $0.02 less, youā€™ll get a bonus.ā€ Those incentives make many items unserviceable

It's almost like management by giant corporations is a much bigger problem than engineers not understanding how stuff works
