Sharpening a knife?

Sharpening a knife?
Not exactly..... I had it in a vise. Was gonna do a little hand sanding. Got distracted and turned to grab a sanding block and hit the edge. Didn't take much. Unzipped about 3" across the back of my hand. So far looks like I missed the tendons.

Waiting to get it cleaned out and stitched up.

Ouch. I had stitches in my thumb and a cast like that from cutting a tendon in my thumb with a Rapala filet knife a longggg time ago.

That's the reason I put together a first aid kit for my work shop. Too damn far to run when you're leaking stupidity indicator fluid. Besides sometimes they leak so much you can't rub dirt in it.

I wrapped a dirty shop rag around it. Made it inside to get gauze and self adhering wrap. Drove myself to the ED.

That vet wrap they sell at TSC is cheap enough. Story time. I had a girl get burned at work. We put some burn cream on it and some gauze. I wrapped it up in black vet wrap I had in the car. When I finished her hand look like it had been wrapped up ready to box with.

It was my karambit. I was cleaning up the flats a bit. Playing with different grit finishes and how they accept acid etching.

Nope wasn't yours. It was in the tempering oven when this happened.
Shew! I have a long time tradition of being the first one cut by my knives LOL. On a serious note, how you are ok buddy, and that you did manage to stay away from the tendons.

I could have grabbed yours from the oven and used it to cauterize the cut and saved the ED bill.

A missed opportunity...

Not bad.......almost got in the goodies.

Here's a pic of my right hand after carpel tunnel surgery got infected.

I picture me doing this to myself each time I unsheath my Rantingredneck original...
Sharpest blade I remember owning!
I've considered running a file across the edge to keep from going to the ER.
Hopefully you didn't hit anything too major.

Heal well.
My wife distracted my while I was sharpening a knife once. Bled like a stuck pig. Held up my hand and told her my hand puppet had a bloody lip. [emoji6][emoji16][emoji38][emoji28]
21 stitches by a great surgical resident. Small stitches, close together.
I'm a lot more careful about knife sharpening now.

My brother got the same injury on his palm showing off how he could quickly close his newly sharpened knife two days before his wedding. His fiancee wasn't the happiest and we had the bachelor party in the ER.
