Perpetual "I've got a sudden hanker'n for" thread.

I’ll flash back about a month for this one. Nearing the end of my 18-day COVID fever in which I’d basically survived on jello, pudding, and grapes…a weird one hit me. Woke up on a Sunday morning and told my wife I needed some chicken fried steak from Bob Evans. I’ve probably eaten at a BE three times in my life. 🤣

Took three meals to finish it, but it was the first real food I’d actually wanted to eat in 2+ weeks.

I could go for two of the breakfast burritos from McDonald’s that have the plastic cheese in them.

Seriously. I love them and their fake cheese.

Since I still have little taste and no smell I crave everything right now, but it’s not worth eating because nothing tastes good. But there are a few foods that I used to eat that I can no longer find anywhere. Stewart’s Key Lime soda and these smooth and melty mints. When I was pregnant I would have chased your down for a fruit roll up!

Here's another company that brings back memories.

Thanks! That is a decent price, too. I found a few on Amazon but the prices were ridiculous.

Taylor Ham. Loved that stuff as a kid. Came in a cloth bag like salami back in the day.
also occasionally crave a braunschweiger sandwich.
weird huh?

There used to be a place in Greensboro and High Point called Taco Time. There may have been other locations but those are the two I knew of. One of their offerings was the crisp meat burrito and it was glorious. Basically taco meat, cheese and enchilada sauce mixed together and rolled tightly in a flour shell then deep fried. I've tried to recreate them with modest success but never have got it exactly the same. I'd probably pay more than I should for one (or several) if I could find them on menu right now.

If we're going something I want that I can't get. Little Ceasers pizza from the late 80s that came in the paper sleeve. Just was a great weekend when mom would run us by a local video place to rent 2 movies and an nes game for the weekend (the stores special) and then over to Little Ceasers to pick up a couple pizzas. My brothers and I thought we were kings.

Darryl's Crackers used to eat at the one in Durham and Raleigh by NC State all the time. Beer and Crackers!

What a coincidence.

I'm not a breakfast eater, except on the occasional Saturday or Sunday, but I found myself craving some of the pork sausage my (future) son in law and I made at the beginning of this year.

Eggs to follow.

Spam fritter and chips. I can get the spam (although not in the correct log shape) but I can't get the batter right and lacking a deep fryer the results are usually horrid.

I get cravings for raw oysters and pure ground horseradish probably 2 or 3 times per week year round. Kind of irritating really because they are hardly ever "near at hand" unless I plan for it ahead of time (which I do as often as I can) or leave the house (which I do as little as I can).

For my wife's birthday I went to the seafood market and got a half bushel . Ate some raw and put some on the grill with butter and parmesan cheese. The rest were steamed. We ate every one of them.

Never have been a big barbecue eater. Been disappointed with several of the local places. Finally fixed the problem. Started making my own and my own sauce to go with it.

Now its a weekly want.

And you couldn’t buy a single pizza. Had to be the two on the cardboard tray wrapped in paper.

There was a pizza brand that I liked back in the 80's --- maybe "Godfather's" (edit) I can't recall exactly --- they'd put the ingredients (I like pork) under all the cheese. The crust (the outer edge part) was sort of folded back on itself so it stayed "doughy." I liked these a lot more than Pizza Hut's "pan" pizza (still, to this day, prefer PH's thin-and-crispy).

Godfather’s was our go-to pizza place growing up. Mainly the one on Albemarle Rd. Then a lot of them changed to Pantera Pizza. But one at Park Road Shopping Center held out for a long time…maybe decades?

three things....

1. from a store: Red Bird peppermint sticks.
2. homemade: peanut butter and Graham crackers.
3. out in the woods: persimmons.

Today I just want a snack.
Doodads, I would sell most of your first born for a box of Doodads.

Those little buggers are my arch nemesis. I’m so thankful they’re hard to find.

I like to snack on my wife’s tortillas. Just the tortilla. Sometimes I roll it. Sometimes I tear off chunks like a caveman. I learned to leave at least one for her breakfast burrito or I could possibly disappear.

Peanut butter no-bake cookies.

9 layer chocolate cake from Carlie C’s.

School lunch pizza.

A big honkin’ slab of seared tuna so rare that a talented surgeon could still save it.

Homemade buckeyes.

Oh good Lord. Just talking about this crap gonna make my glucometer explode!! [emoji38]
