Reacher - Amazon Prime - February 4th 2022

The night scenes are so poorly shot you can hardly tell what’s going down …

Watched the first episode. I think its moving kind of slow. Maybe the next episode will be better. I must admit I’m disappointed so far.

Wheres the wokeness? I missed it
It comes later in this book. Has to do with blind Blake.

Just about every book has some woke injustice in it.

Hell one of the later books has references to Antifa.

I’m enjoying it. Finished three episodes…or maybe it was four?

Also really enjoy the books.

And realized adjusting my Ignore list is on today’s to-do list.

Just finished the first season.

Honestly I thought they did a fantastic job bringing the story line to current times.

They mixed in characters and story lines from other books in the series to round out the character and make him more human sooner than he is in the books.

I wasn’t throwing things at the screen over the added drama they put in either.

A little disappointed they diverged from one of the main points in the books which is “Real life isn’t like the movies.” They would have never had him fending off a crow bar with his forearms in the books.

Really really surprised they dropped the woke part of blind Blake being beaten to death because he bumped into a white kid on the street. Glad they dropped it because it never made since in the book either. It was classic pandering by Lee Child IMO.

Overall I’d give this series 4 stars. Great casting for all of the roles.

Edit to add, I’m going to miss the side story line of his mom being a French underground hero from WW2. Not possible now.

Yeah I was confused when they said he was injured in Falujah. Wasn’t it Beirut? I guess Beirut is forgotten…

Well, Beirut was 40 years ago. They also did away with his aversions to a phone.

Yeah I’m going to miss that part too. It was part of his allure. He was an absolute troglodyte.

But I guess you can’t find payphones in bars and diners anymore.

It seems to be fine. Wished the lead actor was a little more aged and grizzled but I guess you can’t have everything.

At the end of the final episode, his aversion returns... it's a practical aversion, set aside during a life threatening investigation.

We watched it all Friday night. When it was finishing up is when my kidney stone started hurting so bad. Thought it was pretty good. Any one know if they have plans for more seasons?

It is the top viewed show on prime right now, I'll bet that earns another season.
After all there are 20 more books to choose from.

It was decent enough mindless entertainment without constant LGBTQ XYZ bullshit that most shows have. And no Tom Cruise. Bonus. And a cute little cop woman that wasn‘t a stereotypical model/hot chick full of perfection. Pretty well made show by modern standards.

Wife and I watched all but the last 2 yesterday and finished those today. have read or listened to audiobook of all the reacher books, thought this was reasonably true to the picture I had in my head of him & actions as well as Neagly

for future seasons I wonder since reacher is older in some of the books if they’ll age the actor with cgi or makeup to play him as an older dude.

I was pretty disappointed that after all the "only pros use suppressors" and "it's a 95-grain small-caliber inherently subsonic round" BS they put forth at least twice, when they finally showed the "hit squad" NO ONE WAS USING A SUPPRESSOR!?!. I mean c'mon man, how did they miss that?

Another flub was the flat tire on the Bentley magically changing itself.

But, small missteps aside, it was pretty damn good. Will watch the next series.

Finished it up yesterday. Watched a couple interviews with the actor as I don’t recall seeing him before. One of them wasn’t worth much, except to hear him say he normally weighs 205 and put 30# on for this show. I would’ve guessed he was at least 250 in the show. This one (18min) was decent:

Finished over the weekend. It has already been renewed for Season 2.
As is typical of Hollywood, there are technical errors in the script. At least in my own limited knowledge seem to be mistakes.
Referring to 9mm 95 gr as subsonic is wrong. 147gr is typically subsonic. And there is no way to tell from the bullet whether is was a subsonic load.
Feel free to correct me if my assumption is wrong.

Correct. You might be able to tell if you had audio and video. Or from a wound channel. Or if you knew the point of origin and the barrel length and were able to follow the parabolic trajectory along with the bullet's mass you could extrapolate that it was indeed subsonic. Or simply knowing that the industry standard is 147 grain and assuming it was subsonic, even though technically you could load it hot so it was just a heavier bullet.

I was looking on Magtech's web site. Muzzle velocity for the their 147gr and subsonic 147 are actually the same. Same load. So I guess they charge more for "certified" subsonic.
The show was trying to say a 9mm 95 gr was subsonic, implying that because it is 95gr it is sub. But 95gr, from the few I looked at, are the JSP target marketed for states than ban hollow point. Higher velocity for energy, but less penetration and this less chance of pass through.

Started watching it last night. Even the wife likes it.

The actor started to get into the character by the 2nd episode (that's all we got to so far).

Watching this now.

First, Officer Roscoe is a cutie!

Second, Reacher almost sounds like he has Aspergers or something. But a badass form of Aspergers.

Looking forward to the rest of the episodes.

Watched all 8 episodes Friday and Saturday night (wife and daughter were gone so I could binge). Really liked it overall. Couple of things were weird.
As already covered, the whole 95 grain 9mm but also as mentioned before the hit squad seemed pretty incompetent. The leader of the team's main weapons were a crow bar and a snub nose revolver. No suppressors and one dude had a shotgun. Not really built for covert operations.

This show was better than I thought... but I also had some pretty low expectations. lol I was glad there wasn't people slobbering all over each other to appease the woke gender confused crowd. There isn't a single series that I watch on regular abc, cbs, nbc channels these days cause I feel like they're attempting to program my mind.

Wheel of Time was overall a good show. I only downloaded one episode the first night cause I just assumed I wouldn't like it but it was alright... except for one woke scene.

I think Hollywood these days deliberately get things wrong like the 95gr subsonic for unknown reasons. Obviously someone had to have known better. And many shows will show a guy getting rid of a gun just throwing it in a river, beach or lake front just a few meters out... as if to program the Low IQ out there that if they ever have to get rid of a gun, this is the way to do it... so LE can find it easily. lol There was a Unabomber series a few years ago and all the packages had smooth packing tape around every single edge of the boxes so finger prints would be left no matter where you pick it up.

I'll definitely watch a Season 2 of Reacher. Looking forward to another season of Snowfall.

When I read the first book, that this season was based off, that was my assumption as well. He was always doing analytical math about baseball stats in his head.

My verdict: it was only ok and not great.

I recognized a few of the other actors and looked up where they filmed the series: Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Lol!

Margrave looked like a small town you could find in rural Georgia so they did a semi good job of that I thought.

Apparently he auditioned twice…

Yep,
it can also be solid copper for states or ranges that ban lead.
The lighter projectiles tend to be much hotter velocity wise.
I know of someone who used the 80-95 grain full copper rounds, blew the springs right out of her Sig. Sig replaced for free, until she did it again.
I had cycling issues with the full copper 9mm ammo in hp. I believe it was 80 or 85 grain. Got it from Ed's in Vass

I believe it's not intentional, just that screenwriters are arogant jackasses who think they know everything. They wrote it, so it must be true, physics be damned.
I am a HUGE suppressor dork, and currently writing my master's thesis on how people misunderstand suppressors based on their idiotic portrayal in hollywierd.
