Russian ammo bans

However I rarely see the eye rollers listing up all the ammo they have for sale for .10 or .20 a round.
Have you ever considered that people who bought ammo cheap do so they will have plenty when stuff like this happens. Everyone doesn’t need to sell there ammo to make a few hundred bucks. They like to have ammo to shoot.

I'm not pretending this is cheap but some US companies are pushing it out.

I agree with you. Good to see a US company putting them out.

Not terribly bad in this economy. Hey they're brass and presumably reloadable.

I wonder what kind of velocity its getting with a 150gr pill?

Wonder if .308 or .311 diameter bullet?

Interesting thread from the past on the same subject we face today. I get a lot of laughs on the idea of 80 cent 7.62 but I stopped In Clayton Guns today and all 7.62 is a buck a round and it was moving off the shelf. There will be a day when we are nostalgic for the days a round was a dollar a round. Just like the days when it was seven cents.
I'll repeat here because i think you guys are exactly the people who need to hear it - there are getting to be some great laser training systems. this new mantis blackbeard i got has me doing more trigger pulls on my ARs in a day than i have done in months/years with real ammo. i tuned the laser to roughly approximate a 50yd zero so i can practice estimating holdover at inside-the-house ranges.
They may try to choke out our ability to practice shooting economically... but we're still Americans and we're going to find a way.

It's funny how the free market is a great idea until it makes something you want cost a bunch.
There's nothing free about a market that keeps having the government tamper with it to cut down supply.
evaluate better next time.

And to add on... i can safely dry fire, see exactly where i'll be impacting, using a real AR with its normal trigger... and instead of slow firing outdoors, i'm popping shots through the house clearing rooms.
Does it make me a better shooter? maybe. It certainly changes what i'm training on. it definitely appeals to the keyboard commando in me too.

.....you know, that would truck with the bullet weight. Stick an "m80" ball .308 projectile in a 7.62x39mm, .311 case.

That would be... unfortunate. If thats what they did.

I've seen a lot of Russki ammo with .310 diameter bullets and rifles with .310 bore, a .308 bullet isn't the best fit but will work ok. I used to load .308 bullets for my 91/30s and my old Hornady manual showed load data for same.

I share his sentiment, if this ban happened at a normal time there would be capacity to switch production but everybody is already producing as much as they can.

EGGSACTLY!!! Since 1992!

On a Russian ammo note: having tested some Silver Bear .308 in my PTR91 once (where I'm much LESS worried about busting the extractor on it), I found the accuracy 'acceptable' for the limited distances capable by my eyeballs. Out of curiosity, I just looked up "Silver Bear" on Gunbroker. 22 listings total.

- 2 for ".308"

- NONE, for .223! 😮

I have a case of silver bear 223 from 2018, are you saying it's now rare and valuable and not 'junk' as I was told at the time??

Unfortunately I ruined the resale value by unboxing it and storing the loose rounds in an ammo can, so I can only shoot it now. :)

When by my local academy today and yup. They no longer have 7.62 or 5.45 on the shelf anymore.

It's all gone off the shelf. No tags no anything. All replaced with 223/556 rounds

PSA has wanted in the ammo game for some time, now. Guess this was what they needed to feel they could break into the market.
Won't do much if they ain't making primers but if it's Berdan primer stuff I guess they probably are.

They aren't a publicly traded company are they?

Edit: they are not. Shame, I'd like to get a piece of that company. OLN and VSTO have been good to me.

Yep. They've done pretty well. Started with a $50K loan from a family member that had to be paid off in 30 days. At least, that is the story I have heard. They started selling ammo at gun shows. The rest is history.

Thought Id use this post to bring the subject back up. Prices seem to creep up again. Im having a hard time finding much after shipping and tax under .40 to .42 and the bigger named brand stuff is getting higher than that.. Is the ban starting to show itself?

Supply of 7.62x39 has clearly caused prices to stay high. Add this to costs of AK rifles and the wealth of AR chamberings other than 5.56 (e.g. 6.5 grendel, 6mm arc, 300 blk) that are alternatives to the .223 caliber. I’ve been slowly acquiring 7.62x39 brass to support reloading but honestly if I’m burning up large rifle primers I’d rather use them for .308 or 6.5 CM. As much as Id like to see cheap 7.62x39 steel case ammo, the likelihood seems low especially without cheap import AKs all over the place like 10+ years ago.

Maybe, maybe not. The only reason I handload x39 is for suppressed use. I kinda doubt we'll see $0.12cpr again, but I wouldn't be stunned to see sub-$0.25cpr depending on how politics and economies ebb and flow.

You could probably get it that cheap again if someone started reloading Pakistani style. Cant find the video rn but basically just stand the cases up in a tray and throw powder at them like youre feeding chickens.
