S&W fpc folding carbine

To me the whole point of a folding carbine is compactness/concealability together with rapid deployment. If you don't need rapid deployment then any long gun able to be broken down (ARs, etc.) will do. Rapid deployment is valuable when the threat is immediate, and in most cases that means in close proximity. IMO close proximity can be handled well enough with iron sights.

IMO the Sub2k wins hands down in compactness/concealability, it is so thin when folded it fits under car seats and in pretty much any briefcase. An optic can be carried on the bottom rail of the Sub2k on a QD mount and moved to the top rail when there is no immediate threat if/when desired. I've done it and it held zero appropriately for a PCC.

So that's my logic for preferring the Sub2k, even though I've not yet held the S&W. I expect the S&W probably feels more substantial and higher quality, and that is certainly a reason to prefer it for some people. But purely from a concealable rapidly deployable carbine perspective the Sub2k wins IMO due to having more options of places it can be easily concealed, and therefore being more accessible when needed.

In stock as of this posting. $579 shipped.

Does anyone have any experience with one of these yet? I'm looking at one but would like to hear from someone that has fired one.

I have one. Very accurate and lightweight little carbine. I love the ability to hold extra mags in the buttstock and also mount a dedicated red dot without having to buy a mounted swing-out sight adapter like you would with the Keltec. My only criticism is the plastic locking mechanism that holds the rifle in the folded position. It’s pretty junky looking and gets scratched up quickly. The safety is also in a weird spot, in front of the trigger guard.

..I've been piddlin with one for the last week. Prolly got a coupla hundred rounds thru it thus far.
Threw a currently unemployed Hog Plex 1.25-4 on it just for load testing purposes. Shot it from "right there" to ~50 yards so far.
Ended up with one of those cheap lil Pinty dots on it to see if I can beat either into submission at the hunt club in the coming months..
I'll hafta say thus far I'm diggin it outside of the obvious clunk. Nary a hiccup. The heavier the bullet the tighter it shoots.
I've ran 124gr MagTech and S&B cheap fodder, my 124gr Nuke and 147gr XTP loads. Plus some 147gr truncated cone loads that were a skosh warmish. All shot very well for the given set up.
I could do without the dog nut in the middle and the quite bulbous butt stock. But I know why it's like that and it's just mildly annoying.
The stock magazine storage isn't much use outside of the "Get Home" storage application and some light LARPing.
A more svelte option would be nice.
While the folding knuckle is butt ugly it sure makes cleaning the bore a breeze. I'd trade off that "feature" for cleaner lines, tho'.
Kinda hopin the aftermarket gets some options goin' for the butt stock at least.

If they'd ever do the lil Ruger LC in somethin 'sides that goofy 5.7 while refraining from their usual practice of making boat anchors it would be a serious competitor..

Appreciate the feedback, I am still digging this thing since I already have some S&W mags. Maybe when the price comes down to 500ish?

I would be surprised if that thing isn't marked down for the holidays. S&w seems to love over the top mail in rebates. The 2.0 was only $350 during Black Friday 2019 and academy had a gift card deal on top of that for another 50 off.

That's what I'm waiting for big blue to just give them away 😂

I think “transitory inflation “ has killed those days.

Really want to see this be a successful platform that S&W continues to offer and support.
I owned a Sub2K for almost 2 years. I loved the idea and wanted to like it, but in the end I felt it had many serious design flaws ( poor trigger, hated the charging handle operation and location, cheap iron sights which would have not been such a big deal, but no way to keep an optic mounted while folded , and the icing on the cake was mine wasn’t that accurate ) I bought a Ruger PC carbine and yes it’s heavier, but it works much better and I can hit 6” plates out to 100 with a cheap primary arms red dot that I never need to take off.
I like the idea of something a little lighter that folds …

I have the Ruger PCC. Add a MagPul Backpacker and you’ll probably have what you seek. Love mine. Need to get it out again, haven’t shot a lot in general recently, trying to get new range and backstop set up.

That's exactly what I paid at The Gun Store in Lexington.. Ideal had one in stock for $599.

One thing I forgot to mention is the semi-nonexistent bolt release.
The one non port side is only accessible with a thumbnail.
The port side is Russian roulette with yer thumb. Big Blue needs to fix this..
Mebbe that was an effort to make the Garand guys feel more at home with the new toy.. 🥴 🤪 🤣
I just use the bat-wingy-thingy.. 😺
