SC Sectional USPSA 2017

We finally finished shooting around 7:30 pm! Wolffy's squad was still shooting when we left.

If they don't do a half day format next year, I will not go back. We shot 1 stage and had a break. We shot 3 more stages and went to lunch and then had another break. We get to the next stage and there is one squad waiting on the RO's to come back from lunch, then another squad shows up to shoot the same stage. We waited close to 3 hours to shoot that stage. At that point, we still had 5 stages out of 9 to shoot.

I had a pretty good match but not as good as what the scores show. I think the RO on stage one called my time wrong. He called me at 20 second but I'm pretty sure that it should have been around 30 seconds. I talked to the RM and told him that I should re shoot it. I was denied because the RO was right beside me when my last shot was fired. By my math, I should have finished about 70th instead of 64th over all and 14th instead of 13th in limited B. Still a dang good finish for me.

Interesting. I had somewhat of a scoring "issue" on stage one as well. It was NOT in my favor though.......

It was definitely my best match to date! 3rd of 22 Production B shooters, and I shot 79.28% of the Production winner. Long match, but great preparation for A6.

Body was visible Friday, several on my squad took it from that position. Looking back I would have saved 1.5 sec that way.

Marathon match does not begin to describe it for staff either. Both days were LONG.
How did I miss you yesterday? What stage did you work?

Local matches like RPS, CGGR, and SWGC has set the bar extremely high for anyone else in my opinion. I'm spoiled by these excellent matches, and will be the first to admit it. However, for a Level 2 match I was extremely disappointed in everything! The stages were fun, but not very challenging. There was no flow in anything. The management of the match was among the worst that I've seen, and the attitudes of those running the match were even worse. I was so disappointed that I am reconsidering going to A6 in a few weeks. I definitely won't shoot this one again.

If you are miserable because you're running a match, don't run a match. Don't use it as a platform to exert a false authority. It really makes people look down on an otherwise great sport that's filled with some pretty dang awesome people!

I'm looking forward to a breath of fresh air at RPS next weekend and CGGR later this month.

Area 6 is worth it. It will be nothing like yesterday.

Don't let the SC Sectional dissuade you from shooting Area 6. The management of last year's match was great, and the stages were challenging and fun. The CRO's and RO's were great to deal with, and after shooting it (I know that you want to) you will be glad that you did not miss it.

As a comment about the SC Sectional, I am looking forward to receiving my match shirt. Since I was not able to make the match, that shirt basically cost me $148 dollars.
I'll see you there, as I am working as a RO at the match this year. I just shot the match last year Revolver Division, and had a great time. Unfortunately not many shot it Revolver Division, and this year that division won't be recognized. Therefore I switched to Single Stack Division because I like to bring laughter to the world, and my shooting single stack should do the trick. :D

Just one comment for me about the SC Sectional. I look forward to receiving my match shirt, as I was unable to make the match and my ability to participate fell through the morning of the match. Therefore that match shirt cost me $148 dollars.

I am sore today. I probably drank a full gl of water when I got home yesterday.

What happened?

It started out with a questionable procedural call for using the wall as a brace. They said I was leaning on it so hard that “it was shaking back and forth as I shot”. Well, everyone watching as well as reviewing the video agree that it was very questionable and certainly not as blatant as the RO said it was. Possibly the concussion from an Open gun could shake the snow fence a little if your close enough to it? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe I was touching it with my arm and only from the position the RO was in could that be seen? I so then it was the right call.

Then, like the dumba$$ that I am, I was so caught up with that call that I just signed my score sheet without really looking at it. After a few minutes when I calmed down and went back to it I found that the first time written down, 33.30 ( right about the middle of the pack in Open, which is where I usually fall) was scratched out and 50.46 ( very close to the absolute slowest) was written in. It was an OK run, not stellar, but clean and about average for me so as Warner Wolf used to say….”Let’s go to the video tape”….. Start buzzer to last ting on steel…..33 seconds. Things that make ya go hmmm.

Now, with all that being said, I want to be clear that I absolutely appreciate all the RO’s and the fact that they donate the their time so that I can play the game. I recognize that without them we wouldn’t have the matches we do and I’m gratefully for all the time and energy the match staff invests as volunteers to an often time thankless job. It was a long, hot day and I image 10 times more so for them doing all the work they did. I don’t hold any animosity for the call and don’t blame them for anything. Just like officials in any sport, calls have to be made and most of the time their right. But sometimes, because we’re all human, mistakes are made…its all part of playing the game and I’m good with that. It was a long, hard stage, it was late in the day I’m sure they were tired and rushing do to the pressure of have sometimes up to 3 squads backed up waiting to shoot.

Plus it taught me a valuable lesson. Look at your score sheet when you sign it dumbass! Simply paying attention, asking for clarification, checking the timer would most likely would have made it a non-issue. That’s all on me, my bad….chalk it up as a learning experience.

So did it cost me the match….LOL, hell no! There was never even the remote possibility of me winning anything so in the overall scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. I’m just out there to have fun, and fun I had.

Was it a long day…..yup. Would I prefer it to be shorter…..yup. Did I have fun…..yup. Would I rather have stayed home and cut the grass……NOPE!

Being my first level two match, I was expecting more. Hlpressley nailed it about swgc, cggr, and the like spoiling us in nc. I had good luck with all of the ROs, but saw plenty of other guys get screwed out of seconds by the timer or get a dq for breaking a 180 when he wasn't even close (was overturned by RM). One thing that bothered me was on stage 5, the ROs explained a "floating 180" that changed after the start signal depending on where you are. I'm not an RO yet, but I believe this to be illegal in our current rules. Asked the RM and was told it was legal, but I don't believe this to be the case.

The comment of us being spoiled by our great local matches is pretty accurate. Walking up to number 1 and seeing the "horribly" long shots Dan D and I looked at each other and said looks like just another CGGR stage.

I enjoyed the way stage one was set up. I felt like there were lots of options on how to shoot it, and loved listening to everyone whine about the long shots. I actually cut my fiber out for that stage because I had enlarged the bulb on it, worked great because my sights looked odd and really helped me focus on them. Besides blowing my stage plan, my long shots were great.

But we don't have to wait 2.5 hours to shoot it at CGGR!

It was a long day, management could have been better, it just kind of felt like the match was put together at the last minute.... but it was great to get out of the house and see all my friends down there! Even someone with my personality made some new friends. I ended up 16 Open, 4th B, and 35 Overall.... definitely a hoser match. For once I had a reshoot and it worked out in my favor (2 seconds faster and clean)

Looking forward to A6 in a few weeks. need to focus on a few items and hit it hard down there.

I was on 4, I think I was running the timer for your squad...It was a long day the day before and didn't any sleep that night(dog decided to have stomach issues...), so I wasn't the most social person that day.

I think SC state match will be at PGC next year which has much closer bays. Considering GA state has a half day match and Stage 9 to Stage 1 at River Bend was far further than anything at MCRC, I think it'll be do able.

Regarding Stage 5 floating 180*. That bay has always had that feature, even for the monthly matches. I recall we touched on it during the RO class and want to say it has something to do with the berm. I'll try to dig up some notes. But AD for 6 was at the match and didn't have an issue with it, so I'll go with it being good to go.

Congrats to Travis on the win. I somehow snuck in a 2nd as well with a cash payout. I was not expecting that after 0ing stage 3 due to a squib.

Good ole stage 4. That's where I got no "are you ready" or anything of that nature. It was just a quick and very quite "standby" followed by a very fast buzzer. I only stood there confused for about 3 seconds. I know now what I should have done, but didn't at the time.

Were you the one in the short blue jean shorts and the tight top?

I still had my hand on my gun when he said standby...he never asked if I was ready. I think he was in a hurry.

I was not running the timer during either of those incidents, nor was I standing close during the one that missed "are you ready" deal. But I know the CRO corrected the RO for trying to start you without being in the ready position, also RM came by and discussed missing "are you ready." Can't say much else, it was a long two days for all of us and no one is perfect.
