Sig P365XL, one of the best options for a carry gun?

...and I bought it from him - the grip is perfect in my small hands, it's my favorite thing about
Best advice for anyone deciding between the 365 and the XL. I love my 365 but if I held the XL before it, I probably would’ve went with that first. Cant wait for my XL to get here (that is if Sportsman’s doesn’t cancel my order)

There may be a standard 365 in the BST here soon ;)

Picked up brand new SIG XL today for the purpose of plinking after I add a Red Dot. After seeing it, I like the way it feels, I like the trigger and think I would like to carry it if it were the shorter version with Red Dot. Have looked online but I don't see that the Red Dot version is made with the shorter barrel. Do any of you know?

So the standard, 3.1” barrel 365 does not have an optics cut option. You would need to get the slide milled for a red dot on a standard 365.

As of right now, the only P365 with a red dot cut from the factory is the P365 XL

Thanks rms2324. I was afraid of that. I just not shot a couple mags of reloads through with no hiccups. These were moderate loads and so was the recoil. It felt good so I may give it a try carrying, not that I need another carry gun. My favorites being a Kahr P45 and Walther PPS. Both weigh about the same. The 365 will work temporarily in either of the OWB holsters. After I get a chance to do more shooting with 365, I'll decide whether I want to add the Sig Romero. Prices are down to $160 which make it tempting.

Over the past two years I've conducted quite a bit of testing when it comes to carry guns. Most all of them were polymer pistols with single stack magazines. A couple were double stack. Some were the new "one and a half stack".

Here is a partial list, all of which except the G42 were chambered in 9mm:
Springfield Hellcat
G43
G42
G43X
G48
Sig 365
Sig 365XL
S&W Shield (1.0 and 2.0)
G26

All of those above were tested at the range via drawing from concealment and shooting a zombie match stage that we set up in the pistol pit. At least one reload was required. I don't write for a gun magazine so we didn't set up the same stage for everything. All we were trying to do is determine which ones seemed to perform the best for us. Us being me and the two other fellows I shoot with every Sunday afternoon. We're all competitive shooters. Not that that that means a whole lot, but we do put rounds downrange on a regular basis.

After the dust settled, I sold most of the rest of the pistols I'd acquired and stuck with the Sig 365. Now I have transitioned to the 365 XL with the Holosun 507k X2. The key to making the 365 a great carry gun was swapping out the grip frame. You can put the XL grip frame on the regular 365. What this does is give you a much better grip. It also has a flared magazine well, which seems subtle but on the clock is a wonderful feature that really does assist you when reloading.

After I switched to the 365, seven people I know how done the same based largely on our testing. Honestly, I really wanted to like the Hellcat the most and tried very hard to do so. But the 365 simply shot better for us and seemed to have a touch less recoil. The Hellcat, for whatever reason, pinched my pinky finger every time I fired it. Got pinched by the gap between the magazine and the mag well. Sights on the Hellcat should be tritium for what you pay, not some glow in the dark paint. They were, however, very fast to acquire.

The timer, as they say, doesn't lie. The 365 won for all three of us. But only if we installed the XL grip frame or simply went ahead and used the XL.

I'm no expert and never claimed to be. Just a hobby shooters that does a few matches here and there. But for me the 365 was the solution.

Great write up; thanks for sharing.

I absolutely love the fast acquisition sights on the Hellcat, but the P365XL is a more comfortable shooter.

HellCats are great shooting handguns, but the P365 has a noticeably better trigger and that really seems to help a new shooter get more comfortable in a shorter timeframe.

I got to shoot a Hellcat a few months back and that is the only thing I remember.
I didn’t like that trigger.

I really like my 365XL, I usually pocket carry, but I am probably going to a owb so I can install a holosun 507k.
I have a Sig RomeoZero on the way. Looking at variious OWB:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sig-Sauer-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
Would need some trimming to accommodate a Red Dot.

Also would need a bit of trim for the Red Dot. I've got a couple of his holsters and really like them. I've emailed him and asked if he makes this one in black. He lives in Myrtle Beach area.

Right now, the XL drops in either my Kahr P45 holter or an 1886 Walther PPS. Fits pretty lose in either.

Just looked at the full on line catalog from the Murder Beach leather guy.....impressive.....impressive.

This Holosun 507k looks like a beast. I’ve never been into red dots but I may get one for my XL.

SageDynamics put it through is 2,000 round “torture test”. He drops it face on shoulder heights, racks it on wood, smacks it on metal, etc. It’s beat the hell up.

BUT, it kept its zero and kept on chugging. A lot of duty/service red dots weren’t able to pass his tests which makes me unbelievably impressed with this little dot

It does look good. I went for the Sig mainly on price without researching any Red Dots. Have a Crimson Trace on a SCCY and its does beautiful.
But i"m not much of a shooter anymore. I'm sure the Sig RD, being a polymer, wouldn't do well if dropped. Wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't made by CT. Anyway, let me know how it goes and if installing it much of a pain. I haven't even had my XL apart yet, only having shot maybe a doz thru it. Will let u know how the RomeoZero does.

Edited 1/6/21: The Sig red dot came today but when I tried to get the two allen head screws loose that hold the plate on, the allen wrench they provide kept sliding out. Heating the slide didn't help. The screws are put in with blue loktite! Called Sig and they are having it returned so that they can get them out! The Red Dot is small and incredibly light, being made of polymer. It comes with life time warranty.

Update: just picked it up! Sportsman’s surprised me by having it in 2 days early. Range is closed tomorrow but I’m going to test it on Tuesday, see how she runs. Cant wait, really liking the feel, the full size grip, and that beaver tail. Slide feels surprisingly smooth, no hang ups. Smooth the whole way

It’s smaller than you think it would be. It feels like a big gun but isn’t

Just left the range, the XL ran flawlessly. 200 rds of different FMJs (124gr American Eagle, 115gr Maxxtech, Blazer Aluminum 115gr, WWB 115gr) and 50 rounds of assorted hollowpoints (115gr Gold Dot, 147gr HST, 147gr HydraShok, 115gr PMC Starfire, 115gr Hi-Shok, 115gr Federal Train and Protect, and a few other older hollowpoints)

Everything went without a hitch, it’s my new carry gun. Gonna put my standard 365 up for trade, need a home defense gun so was thinking Glock 19. Have no 9mm Glocks and it would be smart to have one
