Where do they fit in here at CFF? Are they 'cowboy' rifles along with lever actions (sort of as break action shotguns are OK Corral members)? Are they precision rifles? I'd guess 'hunting rifles' perhaps, but we don't have a specific sub for that, so is 'hunting' the presumed default?

I've been eyeballing a Henry Single Shot .44Mag simply because I don't want to pay market rate on a lever action. But, then I stop myself and remember that I have no use for a .44Mag other than using up a stockpile of ammo I have on hand.

oh oh. Is that ... wrong?

As far as posting on the forum, just use the main long gun forum.

A break barrel single shot is awesome for tinkering around and experimenting with ammo. A 22lr will shoot shorts, longs, rat shot, and even nail gun blanks with your choice of projectile(s) in front of it. You can pull bullets and do the same shenanigans with larger calibers, but if you blow yourself up don't come crying to me. šŸ¤£

They are also about as reliable for the duration as you can get. Decades after the collapse of society šŸ™ƒ when even the Glocks have quit working that single shot will likely still be going, even if you do have to fabricate a new firing pin along the way.

I have a 629 and an 1894, if that stockpile of 44 ammo is in your way, I can help move it.

Sounds like a solid reason to buy a new gun. I bought a 30/06 because I found a bunch of reloading supplies I forgot I had stashed. I really like my Henry 44 Mag single shot, and 45/70, and H&R 357 Mag and 357 Maxi, and 30/30. I think I may have a problem haha.

Ruger No 1ā€™s are sexy. I have zero use for one, but have almost bought one several times. Iā€™ll snap at some point and buy one in a caliber I donā€™t need, have ammo for or can afford to feed. Probably 45-70 or something with some thump.

I have 2, other than 22s for the kids.
WW Greener EG Mark III in 45-70
Savage Model 219 in 30-30

I regret getting rid of my single shots especially since it was before they went through the roof.

What's the #1, #2 and #3 if I may show my ignorance?

Here's another Savage single shot in .284 except that it now has a Brux barrel and I replaced the original trigger with a Basix. If you do your part she will shoot less than 0.5 MOA (best I've done is .0.23 with 5 shots at 100). I shoot them mostly prone now.

Thank you @ronn47, I see differences but they are both essentially lever guns to take a single cartridge each time cycled. Correct?this

That's what is so nice about the shooting sports. Everyone can find a niche that will make them happy.

Got into T/C, too bad S&W dropped them, hoping somebody will pick them up. Oddly enough they caught my eye as No1s were to high for my liking but T/C market is slowly becoming high as well.

I love the single shots. Have several.
All time favorite to own but not to shoot... No1 T 416 it kick, then in line the No3 in a 45-70..... something about a gun the size of a 10-22 shooting 45-70..

Then the mid weight No1 in a 45-70 is great!

Side from those the TC Encores in 45-70, 308, 3006, 45 ML, 50 ML .........they are all fun.

Almost forgot the some of the first military singles... 50-70 and the 45-70 Trapdoor.
