Single Shot Rifles: where do they fit in?

Love falling blocks and especially Ruger No. 1. Not a fan of the No. 3, they just look cheaper since they were. Have a no 1 in .300 win mag I hunt with on pretty days. (Nasty days I carry ugly 700 synthetics). If anyone has a number 1 in 45-70 for sale, PM me, damn things are hard to find since they are not currently chambered in it.

Like the TC's have first ones... really like the big boys. JDJ rounds, Herrett's even the
45/70, 35 Rem.. Big Bore No.1's old ones 458 WM, 375 H&H was on a Magnum kick

I love Ruger #1s and Winchester 1885s.....................

I had SSK build this 20 inch 51 Alaskan for me many years ago, its a pleasure to work with and carry..........Capable of shooting 510 gr Solids at 2100 fps and 475 Raptors at 2213 fps with ease........
.510 caliber..........

Here's another Savage single shot in .284 except that it now has a Brux barrel and I replaced the original trigger with a Basix. If you do your part she will shoot less than 0.5 MOA (best I've done is .0.23 with 5 shots at 100). I shoot them mostly prone now.

I’ve always wanted one of these.

Many years ago a good friend of mine, now deceased, left in his collection a Ruger #1 he had converted to 50 B&M Super Short, a 1.65 inch WSM Case in .500 caliber. It is really a very fun gun to shoot, while capable of some serious work running 375 Solids to 2200 fps and even 500 gr bullets to 1800 fps, it is really a hell of a lot of fun with lighter loads, and extremely accurate as well....... almost any .500 caliber bullet with 22 Bluedot runs from 1200-1300 fps and one hole at 50 yards..............

I've always liked single shots. I have two Browning BPCS rifles, .45-70 and .40-65 calibers that I used for Black Powder Silhouettes. Never got the accuracy I wanted out of the .40-65, but haven't finished working with it yet! Also, 2 #1's, one in .30-06 and one .22 Hornet heavy barrel. I have gotten sub 1" out of the Hornet, but it is finicky. I also have a Contender (1st Gen) with a number of barrels. Hunting with a single shot will really make you think about your shots. I had some friends down in Florida that hunted single-shot style, even if they had a repeater. Out in the morning with only 1 round, and if you came back without either a loaded round, or a deer, you were probably going to lose your shirt tail and buy the evening round of drinks!
