I see open cages and think of the story of the Pigs of Okefenokee Swamp. Yeah, enter that cage. You're still free right? You can walk out anytime you like. Sure.

Here is how I see things...

Is there an actual credible threat of violence? Probably...there are highly passionate people around other highly passionate people that have differing opinions. Does that mean the Boogaloo? Maybe.

So what this Governor did was actually political genius, for >his< side. He has now painted himself as a "Peacemaker" by announcing "Yall have protested peacefully in the past, but we >know< something bad is threatened. We don't want a Charlottesville again!" Which, Charlottesville being a major cluster, was painted completely as the evil white man intentionally killed people...and left the part out about him being chased by an angry mob.

So, come Monday, paid shills will show up, they will throw hands. And people will retaliate. But now, what would normally be someone LEGALLY protecting themselves from an CREDIBLE attack can be painted as "Those crazy gun people just started shooting at all the peaceful protesters!" There will be no mention of the black masks throwing around padlocks and milkshakes made of cement.

It's hard to believe that this is really happening in Virginia, where once was home to "The Army of Northern Virginia" during the the time of Northern aggression against the Southern states.

I think you're right. What a messed up choice that leaves. 1) If people don't show up (not likely) it will look like the 2A side doesn't care. 2) Show up unarmed and very possibly face an armed mob with improvised weapons that they've been given the wink wink to use. Why wouldn't you expect this, it's happened several times now. 3A) VCDL gets the emergency declaration tossed and show up armed and get painted as the bad guy if things go south and expect the leftist state to throw it's legal system (which is good at destroying the law abiding) at you. 3B) VCDL fails on the declaration and you're forced to defend yourself and the State declares you a felon level criminal.

maybe it is. Ask him if he thinks the slave population in USA would have ever been slaves if they were armed...

there’s no such thing as slaves in an armed society. There’s victims and victors, but definitely not slaves...

Yeah, its the perfect set up. The only thought I had would be to set up a counter protest at one of the nearby sanctuary counties county seat. Show that thousands of people can gather peacefully well armed.

well tell him “error message”. I find it sufficiently obnoxious and awkward enough to make it past those conversation that are just too dumb to even engage in...

Nothing prevents legally armed individuals from being just outside the perimeter of the state capitol grounds.

That has been raised by some of the voices calling this event a trap. They're not saying do nothing, they're saying do something smart. From a practical standpoint, I see the benefit of lobbying the politicians being that it might cause some of the less committed ones to get cold feet in supporting these bills when they come up for a vote. I wouldn't count on it, but it might, and as such is a legitimate tool that should be used.

I am inclined to agree, that setting up a demonstration somewhere else in a pro-sanctuary, especially if it has thousands of armed and peaceful people would also send a strong message. Quite possibly a stronger one.

Exactly what I was about to suggest. What if 10000 armed patriots surrounded the square?

It wouldn't end well though. I think the suggestion above (having a massive openly armed demonstration in a supportive county in VA) would probably be the smartest thing.

That's always a risk. So is coming in contact with a drunk or otherwise impaired driver every time you hit the road.

Then you agree with the Governor's logic that it is too risky to have lots of armed people at a rally on the capital grounds.

I do not. However, there are NDs at Gun Shows and it's the only thing that makes the news.

It is a troublesome problem; how to claim that it might be too risky to carry firearms to an event supporting carrying firearms.

I was actually just wondering why ANTIFA would be against guns in the chat....I don't know much about them, and from what I was reading, 2a is not the topic of activism for them. I was thinking that given their aggressive posturing and absolute dependence on free speech (and subsequent protection of said speech) that they would support guns, if anything. Seems to be the case.

After all, no one needs guns more than communists--whether the oppressor or the oppressed.

So something that occurred to me, Monday is a holiday. All the lawmakers are going to be home. This great big protest should be moved to their neighborhoods.
