Would love to have a WWII collection of US firearms. But both have gotten so expensive in recent years and "working" guns took precedence over "collectibles"

A bring back 1911 that was carried in Belgium in 1918 by a guy with the same name as me. The gun was intended for me when I was born, but I’ll never see it because it was stolen from his house 60 some-odd years ago.

As for WW2 weapons, Garands are still pretty reasonable. You can get a nice example (field grade), shipped to your door from the CMP for $650. Of course, they are shipping slow right now due to the Covid backup. And, CMP is about to release a second batch of GI 1911A1s in January.

My dad and I watched a lot of The Untouchables.
I always dreamed of owning an authentic Thompson 45 with a drum magazine.

But, I got to handle and shoot one a few years ago.
That satisfied my lust, and made me realize it wasn't what I wanted after all.
edit to add: I guess the Colt Monitor is my new Unicorn, at least until I get to play with one.
