What are you reading?

Re-reading The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

Just got past the “courtroom” scene where Man (Manuel) is an ad hoc judge. I gotta say, it sounds like a good approach to the court system.

A lot of Heinlein's ideas make sense to me too

Every one of those books are hard to put down. Just do yourself a favor and buy them all at one time.

I've read the three books in the Sun Eater series as well as a fourth book that's not from the series but is from the same universe.

Probably one of the BEST sci-fi series I've read in a long time. In fact, I liked it as well if not better than the Expanse. I love the Expanse.

The author, Christopher Ruocchio, lives in Raleigh.

Santa brought me the entire Foxfire series; I read several when I was a kid that Dad had. Working through them now, looking forward to reading the entire set.

Mom had those books. Great fun to read!

Working through the Lucas Davenport series...currently on #14. Which means I’m close to blending in the Virgil Flowers series.

A man dies, and is reborn into another world, set along RPG lines, in an abandoned starter town named "Noobtown." With his sarcastic demon, Shart, and Badgelor, the homicidal, insane badger that wants to eat someone named Charles; they guide him *poorly* through his problems. With their help, he must navigate this strange new world, and build a town. A dark power is rising in the North, and he is running out of time.

Fatal Decisions, Freidlin, Richardson, 1956. Essays by German generals being frank about the mistakes they made; it was put together by US personnel who had a tough time convincing their higher-ups to give them access to the German PoWs. Apparently the knee-jerk reaction was 'why listen to evil losers?'

Just finished Skunk Works by Ben Rich and Leo Janos, fantastic read. Rich was president of the Lockheed Skunk Works after Kelly Johnson (a tough act to follow), and Janos also co-wrote Yeager, Chuck Yeager’s autobiography. If you haven‘t read that, stop what you’re doing and get it. Then Skunk Works. Upbeat, kick-ass reads.

I should add that I just got Kelly Johnson’s autobio and I expect no less from it. Will report when finished!

I never miss a John Sandford novel. The last one was a Davenport / Flowers team up.
I read the first two Flowers. I think in the second one he went over to Lucas’ house and talked about his family, the nun, some of his coworkers, etc being there. So then I went back and started on the Davenport stuff. Haven’t heard Virgil’s name yet, but I’m assuming it pops up in this one or the next.

I have recently started reading again, use to all the time, but ended up not having as much free time, I started on audio books and then picked up a couple good books and now I’m back at it.

Right now I’m reading “where the crawdads sing”, it’s a murder mystery that happens off the coast of NC, story takes place in 50’s and 60’s.

I got into audiobooks more than 20 years ago. If I'm driving or working around the house or exercising I'm listening to one. Since I retired I hear one in about 2 days.

Just started the complete Sherlock Holmes series narrated by Steven Fry.

Flowers doesn't show up until Davenport leaves the City and joins the BCA. Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

He’s already done that. I’m starting book #16 tonight. I think the first Flowers book was released after book #17. So I figured he’d appear in one or two of the Davenport before spinning off.

As soon as my new nook gets here, I'm going to start The Expanse series, having binge watched the show. Of course my ancient nook blew a gasket and quit right as I started using it again.

I have that book. I read it every 3 or 4 years. Great book, and once you read it you just shake your head at the politics and lack of intestinal fortitude in today's aerospace industry and politics.

I am halfway through book 3 of Rick Atkinson's Liberation Trilogy, probably THE most comprehensive historical study of WW2 in Africa, Italy, and mainland Europe.

I just finished a re-read of Confederacy of Dunces and am starting again on The Teachings of DonJaun by Carlos Constaneda

The mid-70's called; they want their reading list back! :D

(ahem) I'm rereading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn and reading The Siege of Krishnapur (JG Farrell, 1973 btw). I literally picked it up on the side of the road in CA! 2 bins of books with a "free!" sign stuck in the ground nearby. I thought it was history (Sepoy Rebellion), but it turned out to be a novel, entertaining enough to keep my attention.

Lol, what is that?!

Anna Karenina, probably my favorite Tolstoy novel.

I had three years of Russian in college, and for about 15 years after I forgot about 95% of it. I'm trying to get back into it a little bit, so reading here and there, going online to help me figure out some of the stuff I don't remember, which is a hell of a lot.
