If this is the type of sloppy shitbags they have representing the Navy it’s no wonder no one wants to join. Hell I wouldn’t want anything to do with it if I walked into a recruiting office and saw this heinous creature greeting me as the face of the Navy.. this turd couldn’t even shave his disgusting face before this pic. He better thank whoever it is he prays to I’m not his Chief, as he would absolutely be hating his life right now.

I would have thought he would still hafta pass the physical fitness quals, being a (I think) 3rd class PO. Even more so being a recruiter.
2nd Class PO, looks like to me.

You would think, but not so much now days….

Second Class.

And Hernandez is screwed up, too, being out of uniform.

The visual appearance of recruiters in all aspects is supposed to be impeccable, and for good reason.

EDIT: I don't know Hernandez' rank, or the existing Navy regulations on rank tabs...maybe she's an E-3 or below and maybe the Navy doesn't require anything on rank tabs for them?

I dunno... I'll defer to someone else on this.

But the 2nd Class is not excusable.

We used to get a recruiter (Marine I think) come through the courthouse regularly. You could shave with his pant creases and he was physically fit.

Only thing these two look like they could recruit you into is a day of getting baked and eating Cheetos in a filthy apartment that smells like cat piss.

Then again, not sure why young people would want to sign up to be sacrificial proxies protecting money laundering, slavery and MIC executive bonus building ops anyway.

Reminds me of when marine recruiters came to my high-school. I banged out 30 pull-ups and they acted like I was LeBron James or something

Correct. No rank tab in NWU Type III’s for e3 and below.

As difficult as it is to make rank in the Navy, who did he blow to get his rank?

The POs i new would have eat him up without mercy.

Well, it sure does depend on the community. HM is notoriously challenging. IS, crypto? "Push button chief" in 10 years.

I agree, the POs I knew would not have tolerated that. Nor would he have lasted on the green side, the Marines would have either gotten him squared away or transferred.

Just depends on your rate. Some pick up super quick while others (HM) are very difficult to pick up in. Took me 16yrs to make Chief

30 pull-ups is 99th percentile. You only need three pull-ups at the beginning of boot. I am sure the recruiters were salivating.

Recruiters drool over lots of stuff people like you and I take for granted.

Got good grades? Boner time! Recruiting people who can fill the more technical billets is highly desired.

Just not being fat is a plus...actually being physically fit at least enough that running across a field doesn't leave you collapsing for breath is a good catch. But a person who is no stranger to hard work like the manual labor involved in carpentry jobs, lawn work, farm work, etc. is like striking gold.

People who have good practical skills, minds which grasp concepts like the ability to visualize 3D objects and manipulate them in their minds, who understand basic concepts involved in practical applications of knowledge they learned in schools (math and science related fur example)...

To a recruiter that's like being a 13 year old boy who comes across a hidden stash of porn.

What the *checks where thread is posted* frickin' Corpsman said.

I enlisted in the Navy through their nuclear propulsion program. When I graduated boot camp I was an E-3 and got back pay for it for the time I spent in boot camp. (Everybody is an E-1 in boot camp.)

When I completed ET-A School a few months earlier, I was promoted to E-4 (Third Class Petty Officer) as part of the program. So in less than a year, I made E-4. If I recall, about 8 months, give or take.

When I took the first E-5 exam the following year (a soon as I met the time in rate requirements), I passed with a high enough score to be advanced to E-5 (Second Class). Less than 2 years in and with no time at sea.

Likewise, I took the first E-6 exam I was eligible for and made it first time up. I wanna say just under 5 years.

It's a lot like the civilian world in many aspects. If you've for the education and/or skill sets that are more highly prized, you'll go further and faster than those who do not. Or if your in a field that's not a desired by others and had a hard time getting and keeping people.

Now, it took me quite a while before I made Chief. The requirements are different and I went through quite a lot (personally and professionally) before I "got it"...but when I DID get it, it didn't take long afterwards. Still, it was just before my 17 year point when my anchors were pointed on.

HM is the most overman rate, always hovers around 125%. You can have a degree, Navy Comm, and be early promote and still not make it on first pass. Of course there are some NECs that make promoting easier than others within the rate, that's probably true with all rates.

I know the more technically demanding / understaffed rates and rates that are particularly choosy (IS, etc) make rank quickly. I agree, I think it parallels a lot of the civilian workforce. It is what it is.

Probably. My high-school required us to take Asvabs and I scored I believe 97%. The Marine guys were indeed salivating lol

Smart AND strong. While it may not be rare, it is not as common as one might think. The Marines are the only branch that have pull-ups as part of their physical fitness test. A lot of pull ups is a commodity you can trade, you might not be able to string two sentences together, but if you're strong and do well physically, the Marines have a place for you.

The only Navy guys I had direct involvement with were the "Rocky Mountain Navy" guys. It was during AIT, the school was Biomedical equipment technician. We learned to service, repair, maintain, and calibrate most everything from dental chairs to Xray machines. It was an Army and Navy school, Air Force had there own. The short course was 12 phases and lasted 9 months. The average rank in most classes was for the Army guys E3 and E4. We did have some E5s and above that were reclassing to a different MOS.

All of the Navy guys were E5-E6. The school was an advance school. They all had to be corpsmen for a few years before they could attend the school. Thats when I learned the the Marine Corps didn't have their own medics. These Navy guys were very squared away and didn't suffer fools lightly. If you wanted to learn, they would bend over backwards to help you, even if you were an E2 Army guy. Thats when I also learned how difficult it was to make rank in the Navy.

Needless to say, I have a lot of respect for these guys.

Thank you @Derek8404.

Amidst all the political bullshit and leaders without balls I am personally glad to hear someone calling a spade a spade! Professional military leaders seem to be a thing of the past in most arenas. What is truly amazing to me is I felt things going this way in the Marine Corps when I retired 27 years ago, and you display it it the USN Dental Corps. WTF is wrong with this picture.

Good job Chief!

Appreciate that Sir. I’ve always had a more rough around the edges approach to my leadership style. It’s very fair but not politically correct at all…and they keep sticking me in these billets where you’re more likely to encounter the sensitive (dental, hospitals, ect..) I’m honestly surprised I’ve made it this far, but I’ve been very fortunate with a great group of Sailors wherever I go. I honestly think the younger generation appreciates my blunt, no BS style. I’m firm but fair with all and have a pretty good understanding and relationship with all my sailors and officers.

I also have ZERO tolerance for bullshit and I’m not hesitant to call it out and at this point I couldn’t possibly care less. I know I’m not gonna see a star on my anchor and I’m at 20yrs so what are they going to do to me?? Make me retire? Cool.

You got the FU time in, so it's all fun and games now if they want to play.

Exactly. I’m in a good spot, unless I did something stupid and illegal they really can’t do shit to me. Only reason I’m still in is I need to be here for a couple more years while my wife finishes a school.

I don't know how these two are able to pass the fitness qualifications for the military from the way the picture looks. All seriousness because I trained for 6 months before going into the Army for basic training after I talk to my recruiter and I was in good shape then. Definitely better shape than these two. Hell I'm in better shape than these two now and I'm disabled and over 40 years old with multiple injuries from gun shot wounds and more lol. But I guess it was a different time when I was in active duty. But I will say one thing for sure and that is I don't think we have to worry about them being able to pass selection in Ranger School, SEAL training, SFG, or any other elite branch of the military. I don't think I could take it if I saw someone like that with my beret and flash on there head being a ambassador for the 3rd SFG. I can just see them trying to say that their snake eaters with a straight face lol. BTW happy Memorial Day brothers. "DE OPPRESSO LEBRI"IMG_20230528_013419.jpg

That sailor's chain of command failed him. And, he failed himself and his shipmates. As @Derek8404 said, if he was in my chain of command He would be hating life.

This sailor is not representative of my community for sure, and I suspect not @Derek8404 community, either.
