Average ammo prices for past 6 weeks seem to be going down

Bass Pro in Cary has/had better than normal stock yesterday. I went to buy socks and ended up dropping $$ on some 9mm and 45. Think the 9mm Federal 124G was $18/box and the 45 Winchester was maybe $60/100. Not great but better than I have seen when wandering about.

Those were some damned expensive socks I told Mrs Fool.

Basically all that’s available is 9mm and its come down a little. Is the ammo shortage all based on one caliber focused on by the manufacturers? I saw a Lambo on my street a week ago but are they common here?

@BlackGun
I’m seeing 22lr more and more. Just not at prices that’d make me reach in my pocket.

I'm looking forward to, hoping 22lr gets back down to below 7cpr and is available everywhere. Then I can get back to building my larger stash for bartering!

I’m more interested in reloading components getting back in stock so I can join Coleman’s Creek, I’m not going to spend $500-$600 to join a range and only get to shoot 2-3 times a year, 9mm & 5.56 isn’t as much of an issue since I mostly shoot them at matches, 60-100 rounds of each isn’t difficult for me to replenish, but it’s been tough keeping a supply of 6.5 Grendel & .458 Socom is a bit harder to replenish.

Was just in PSA in Greenville. Plenty of 9mm, but at $35-$39/box (50). Winchester 100rd was $69.

Academy had a fair amount of .223, but I forgot to check pricing.

Pricing is high, but at least is available.

I am seeing ammo 9mm at $.35 to $.45 all day long, steel to brass cased. People who have been selling at $500 are now dropping their prices. Natchez can't sell Blazer at $550 a case. The real seed change is that there is no money in flipping ammo anymore. Dealers can't take every single box they get and sell it on GB for 3X what they paid. The secondary market is all but dead because the primary market is coming back down to earth. You are not going to stand in line for hours to smurf 5 boxes of 9mm at $15.99 if you can only sell it for $20.

Look at his auction. $449 + $50 shipping no buyer.

Im seeing a little slide in ammo prices, more importantly, im seeing availability, meaning the scalpers and flipers are having a hsrd time selling, that will hopefully translate to futher price reductions. Based on recent email sales adds, im seeing fire arm prices dropping by consideral amounts. Enough so, theres some people on our for sale threads that are going to get their feelings hurt

This is a good sign for the ammo market>

I was hopeful, but SGAMMO, where I used to by pistol ammo and Rimfire when I lived in a Texas, has gone bonkers on prices. Even now, .38 Special & .357 Mag is over .70 per round, for friggin LSWC. Still poor selection and high prices. Did these punks go out back and dig up a stash of 130gr FMJ .38 Special stolen from the Air Force M&P? Nobody shoots that ricochet junk.
I check out the Federal web site and the CCI Rimfire site if I want to buy factory ammo. I buy enough to get free shipping. They may often be low on stock, but they had 9mm, 10mm and .45 ACP and 12-ga Trap loads months ago, at much better prices than most, and at less than 1/3 the price my LGS had, when they actually put it on the shelf instead of on Gunbroker.
If you don’t reload for 10mm, .45 Colt or .41/.44 Mag, good luck. LGS today was charging $90 per box of 50 .45 Colt, or Long Colt for the non-purists. He wanted $49 for 50 of the same 130gr FMJ .38 Special as SGAMMO.
IF this “situation” doesn’t teach shooters a hard lesson, they just can’t be learned.

There seems to be a lot of 124 grain 9MM available. Maybe it's just me noticing and it was there all along?

I'm ashamed to say I had to break down and pay the price to buy some and SGAmmo had the best price for 1000 rounds (399.99 case plus $16 shipping) out of the usual places I look or get e-mails from. Ended up at .about .45 per after tax and delivery including pkg protection and signature required charges. It was a good bit more awhile back if you could find it and lots of suppliers are still higher than that. I always pay the extra few bucks for adult signature, etc. when it's available when I order ammo online.

Just ran some numbers using components purchased durring this shortage and reloading 9mm is .46 for defensive ammo and .24 for plinkers. Still cheaper than factory, and it keeps me out of trouble while my wife is working from home so my time doesn't really figure into the equation.
If I do cost averaging including my existing pre-shortage stash each load drops .15 so .31 for defensive and .09 for plinkers...

Winchester 9mm Brass cased 115GR was $19.99 a box at the LGS today. Lowest price I have seen there in over 18 month.

Did you buy???? What is your High Buy number?

No I did not buy any. I am not buying until it is $10 a box or less. I bought some Blazer Alum to shoot at my mothers in laws where it is hard to pick up the brass. It was from Bass Pro for $14.99 with free shipping but that was a while ago.

"Combined with strong sales for our legacy ammunition brands, I am pleased with the overall positioning of our ammunition platform and around the clock production of our dedicated teams in this heightened demand market. During the quarter, we successfully launched a category first loyalty program and have seen great response from members looking to get gear from their favorite ammunition brand. Loyalty membership has grown 400% since the first week, and we've seen a strong percentage of members coming back to our site to make repeat purchases. We also announced our ammunition subscription program. Our planned subscription service is on track for a fall 2021 launch and will further bolster our DTC capability, allowing us to better connect with our consumers."

That's OK. SlowJoe will utter the dreaded, "purple monkey dishwasher" at his next presser, and prices will go right BACK through the roof again.

I don't think so. The panic buyers are already sitting on guns and ammo they have not used. As we roll towards the holidays people will need cash to buy Jr the new GI Joe with the Kung Fu Grip not ammo that sits in the closet next to the gun that have never shot. Most of the panic buyers never convert to regular shooters. Nov and Dec will be open season for buying cheap used guns. IMHO

Been seeing a steady stay at $.30/rnd for steel 9mm.

I believe we will see these prices not drop a lot more for most common rounds. Other rifle rounds not in the .223/556 and 7.62x39. .30-.30 and other .30 cal categories will take a while to come back down. My uncle is looking for 165 gr .300 winmax. But wont pay the $70-$80 box prices.

Saw 45cent per round 223 today on line. That's about 15 cents per round less than it was last month. Still more than I will ever pay. I picked up 350+ once fired 223 cases today at the range. Just like gold sitting on top of the ground.

Just saw this at Academy .. looks like online only … aluminum case is 14.99
