I have an honest question about the OP video. If you carry a backup gun in an ankle holster, it seems like it's going to be difficult to get to if you need it and are trying to fend someone off. Am I off on this?

Sorry Pard, I'm confused...which vid? The only one is @Burt Gummer and there isn't an ankle holster involved. As for ankle holsters, for Many reasons, I don't use them.

@BatteryOaksBilly The LEO interviewed by Mass in your YouTube post mentioned he ankle carried. IIRC, he said he had to present it a couple times but never fired it at a threat. ;)

My Dr said he installed my pacemaker on the left so I could still shoulder a rifle being right handed.
Sweet!
My surgeon avoided cutting into one of my chest tattoos during the cancer adventure. I thought that was really nice of him!

Thanks Jeff, I thought something else. I'm easily confused these days. Anyway, I personally don't use them. I never have been able to make them accessable enough for me. I always carry 2, but where I can get at them better than that allows. Believe me,,,I've tried it...a no go for me.

I carried an ankle holster when I was 1-3 years old. But I have to wear slipon shoes these days so ankle would be out of the question.

I use an ankle holster at times, and it is by no means a quick draw. But it IS an option when dress dictates. But you do have to practice getting to it in different positions.

I've considered carrying the p238 on an ankle, but haven't tried it yet...I guess that would be a perfect-sized gun to use for that?

The WuFlu slowed me down a bit, but I’m still managing!

What are you guys doing?!

Before all this wuflu junk got going I had gotten into running Spartan races. Off road obstacle courses. Some are 3.2 miles...some 8, and one was around 14 miles.

Lordy, that sounds like some young people stuff....go for it and have fun!
I'll stay in the rocking chair on the bunkhouse porch at B. Oaks and shoot across the pond, baby!
Maybe a pistol match in the winter....that's as "racy" as I get....

Both of my boys were issued S&W air weights in ankle holsters when with the Greenville Sheriffs Department. Most of the deputies wound up sticking the little revolver in their pocket. Ankle holsters were too hard to get to

Even though it like teaching a pig to sing...

Understanding your own capabilities and limits so that you are prepared to handle anything thrown at you is the answer.

Another example - what if I can see the target, but not my sights? What range can I reliably hit just from my presentation and no sights? This is very plausible in dark or mixed lighting.
kind of like losing your glasses.

Oh to be 50 again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, when I got to 40 I realized I was aging too fast. Was fat, out of shape, slovenly. Any physical "prowess" I thought I had at that point was a lie I was telling myself. So I started doing cardio every day at work. A co-worker challenged me to start the obstacle course races to give myself some purpose behind me workouts. Really enjoyed them (though I wasnt very good at them).

And I know this is a derail of the topic, but ol'Curmudgeon McMudgeonface handled that already...but it dawned on me that for many men the scariest thing about growing old isnt the age, its the loss of being "dangerous" that we fear. Dangerous as in "I have to take this man seriously because if I dont he can whip my tail" style dangerous. Its that vitality I want to hold onto, not necessarily the years going by.

For me the Bitter Pill is not being able to do things I used to not even give a thought to. I can no longer move 70 pound targets around on the range. I don't want to get on top of the garage to cut limbs off it. Simple Little things that were as easy as breathing or walking. Now I have to think about things ahead of time...Do I Really wanna do this?? Bitter Pill indeed.
Please, enjoy yourself and Never take for granted that you will always we able to do the things that today you give no thought to.
My Mother used to be on me all the time about spending money. She came through the Great Depression of 1929. She scrimped all her life, and for No Damn reason. She told me this less than a month before she died with just the 2 of us in the room.....I was wrong. Don't throw away every penny you have but don't save for when you are 80. When you are 80, Nothing will be fun. More money won't make it better. Enjoy your hard work...……………………..I do.

Look at it this way:

To (most) women, you guys are "dangerous" anyway, simply because you are men, and (most of) you are physically stronger than we are! Even an old fart (male variety) can be dangerous!
Not to imply in any way that you are an old fart!

There! Did that help?

Women have multiple dresses and make up and shoes to impress other women, not men. And men want to be "strong" to impress other men. Its an odd dichotomy.

Women seek security
Men seek approval

This is what makes the world go round. It's in all of our DNA.

Absolutely....!

Try shooting groups as usual with your Glasses/corrected vision. Then shoot groups without glasses..... It is a great learning moment.... For added learning, do it in low/no light conditions..

Presentation REALLY counts when vision is less than optimal.

What are these "dresses" of which you speak??

See, this is something that's been on my mind. All the hot shot tactical "operator" trainers are pitching to fit young men. Where are the self-defense trainers for old guys with bad shoulders, bifocals, arthritis and gimpy knees? They're the ones who need it!
