Did You Go Shooting Today

This is a little picture heavy and the first time shooting off a Harris bi-pod.

After not really satisfied with my last couple of day on the 500-yard range I decided that I was going back to the 100-yard range and zero in few rifles again. They are a Savage Axis with a Sig Whiskey 3 scope in 308 and 6.5 CM. Also, took a CZ 527 in 204 Ruger with a Burris 223 scope.
The wind was blown pretty good, maybe up to 15 MPH. Enough to move the target up to couple of inches.

In the 6.5 CM I was shooting a Hornady 140 ELD over 37.p gn of RL 15. About 2650 ft/sec. The 308 was a Hornady 140 Match over 41.7 gn of Varget. About 2,500 ft/sec. The 204 was a Hornady 32 V-max over 28.0 gn of Benchmark. Est. 4047 ft/sec.

Shot the 6.5 first and was not happy with grouping. Checked the bolts that hold the action to the stock and could turn them about ¾ of a turn.
Before leaving I stopped by the 500-yard range and the 6.5 was dead on out to 525 yards. Best shot was at 300-yards, took 2 shots but hit a 2” steel hanging plate. Then the 308 came out. I bought some lead free 165 grn bullets that looks like a Hornady ELD. They shot all over the place. At 300 yards, I was 10 yards short then the next shot was over the target.

Back to Jim's today for 5 boxes of 9mm, and various targets. I did well, except those playing cards are hard to hit! It was a lot of fun, and the 9mm worked perfectly.....again! Maybe it's going to be ok? It will get a cleaning before I go back to the range.

Shot about 200 rounds yesterday at DPRC two gun rimfire match. I did well but as always lots of room for improvement. If anyone is in the Alamance Durham County area these matches are the second Saturday of every month and are open to all they are lots of fun20190310_132432.jpg

No I did not. Went to PBR in Mooresville, because I wanted to possibly rent a .357 or two. Plus I took a pistol I just mounted a laser on to zero it. I wandered over to the new stuff. I've been considering breaking my promise to not buy anything new and spied a revolver in their case at the bottom that was very interesting. I was actually squatting and staring at this thing. They were busy, but not a single mention of my presence. If I'm working somewhere and a customer is on the floor, at the very least I would find out why. Then as long as everything is ok, let them know they matter and will get to them asap. I just left. Wallet intact. Their till lighter.

I went to FLD to try out the new CMC triggers in my AR and AR pistol. Had a great time, as usual, until the second to last magazine out of my pistol. Got a little sloppy with my hand placement and the bullet left this mark on my finger. Good day almost turned out horrible.

I have a new hand stop on the pistol but, because of the gas block, it rides a little far forward. Either need to really pay attention to my grip or move it behind the block

After last week trip to zero in some rifles I took 2 more and my SCCY to add a few more rounds down range before I carry it.
The 2 rifles that I took was a Savage Mk II 22 LR and a CZ 223.

Last time I had the Savage out I was having problems with the spent shell extracting and Savage sent me new extractors and extractor clip. After watching some YouTube videos, people have cleared that problem with just pulling the extracts and cleaning them and the channel. I did and it did not work. When I got home I replace them with the new ones.
Next up was the CZ. This is the gun that I had problems with the scope. I reloaded some Hornady 55 and 62 Grns FMJ bullets to test the rifle. I used the 62 to get the gun as close to zero as possible but still not happy. Did I say that I was KnotRight. When I got home and started looking over the gun I noticed that the objective was touching the rear sight blade. I not sure how much that would effect the accuracy but moved the scope back about 1/4 of an inch.
Time for another range trip.
Before leaving I grabbed 50 to 60 rounds to shoot in the SCCY as fast I could 2 clips at a time. The bright spot of the day the gun ran without a flaw.

We got some shooting in but we also hung some new targets. These things make a joyful noise when smacked with hardball ammo.
@Geezer @BatteryOaksBilly What are those things? Looks like a good upgrade from the bowling pins I’m shootin’ at.

110 rounds of .38 thru the trusty 66-1. DA only in keeping with my pledge to myself.

Took a buddy to PHA today and ran some drills. Ran another 100 rounds through the G-48, and about 120 through the AR pistol.

It's amazing how you can pick up that one gun and just shoot the fire out of it. For me it's my Sig 228 with standard I dot sights. I hadn't shot it in six years so you can guess at the first few shots.

I'm going to introduce myself to the wizard tomorrow, can't wait..
Met the Wizard today. Good thing he was not armed. Put a box o .45acp from cocked&locked in his general direction. A lot harder than it looked on YouTube. Also 4 bxs 9mm at my cardboard plate rack. Glock match coming up in Morganton.

It was killing me to see if the new extractors in the Savage MK II were working and if moving the scope on the CZ 223 made a difference. So after my last appointment made it back to the range. The Savage worked great (maybe 50 rounds) then had one stuck. Was not hitting a tennis ball at 100 yards like I wanted so I switched from Winchester HP to Federal Target loads. No problem with extractions and was shooting 1 MOa with some wind at 100 yards. The CZ was all over the place but grouping. Thinking it was the different loads (and I do not trick my 223 rounds) running from 2900 to 3050 ft/sec. Went to the 500 yard range and was hitting 8" round steel @ 300 and 24" round steel @ 400 yards. Really could not see the hit but I thought that I heard the hit. To make sure I shot some in the dirt berm behind the target and heard nothing.
I have a weeks of reloading waiting for me.

When I got home from work yesterday, the wife informed me that we were going shooting. I said "well, ok, if you REALLY want to." :D

She shot some 45 and some 22. I shot some 45, 9, and 223. Everything ran flawlessly, and my wife shot really well. It was a great trip. The only downside was that I had to clean five guns when I got home. But, when you have to clean guns, that means you went shooting, so that is a good thing! ;)

TR, do you completely clean your guns after each range trip? I run a bore snake twice through the bores with a little CLP on the first pass and wipe down the outside to get the finger prints off the finish. I will clean them after maybe the 4th or 5 range trip and only shoot the normal (what is normal????).

I use these things and a couple spritzes of Ballistol.

Depends on the gun. If it is a gun that doesn’t get shot often and may not come out of the safe for a long time, I tend to do more detailed cleaning. If it is one that gets shot quite often, I do an abbreviated cleaning, at least run a wet patch and a boresnake.

Just shot new EAA 10mm Witness. When I took it from the box I was immediately disappointed. A damn light rail. The one in the ad had no such device. I sent them a note. We'll see. Since it is a dedicated vehicle tool I guess I cold live with a light rail. It's butt ugly. Not at all the beautiful lines of the CZ75. Probably that damn rail...….damn rail...…..damn rail

Relax, we can grind that light rail right off of there. It'll hardly be noticeable.
