Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

Got a buddy who has got me started carp fishing. I was skeptical at first but big freshwater fish satisfies the need for pullage.
Caught 7 last Sunday morning in 2.5 hrs ahead of the rain best 2 at one time. 10.75 and 6.25 lbs is a handful by yourself and at once.

I got a great recipe for carp.

Start with a cedar plank, long and wide enough for your carp. Since carp can get pretty big, it's OK to cut the carp how you like if necessary to get it to fit in the oven for this.

Nail the carp to the plank. Just one nail through the head to hold it on the plank is all you need.

Next, rub a good dry spice on the fish. Some people swear by a favorite "fish spice", but really it doesn't have to be some fancy spice someone says it's made for fish. You like creole spice? Make a rub that has creole seasoning in it. You like a simple salt and cracked black pepper? Have at it.

Now dice up a medley of veggies to smother the carp with. Potatoes, celery, carrots...think "roast" and you can't go wrong.

Finally drizzle some butter over everything. Or if you want something with a bit more zest to it, use some Italian salad dressing, or even vinegar & oil. Or maybe some olive oil. Doesn't matter, so long as you think it'll go well with the seasoned rub.

Preheat the oven to 350F and set the whole plank on the middle rack. Cooking time will vary based on size, but a while carp about 20 inches long will take about 40 minutes.

DO NOT COVER WITH FOIL!

I've known people to do this, but in my opinion you lose a lot of the awesome smokey flavor by doing this, so don't!

When you're done, pull the plank out and let the whole thing rest for about 10 minutes.

Then pry the carp off, scrape everything into the trash, and eat the plank.

I hear you, I ain't eating them anyway (especially from Lake Crabtree in Cary PCB infested ☣️) but they are strong fighters and I have seen some 15 plus lbs pulled out of here, and the bycatch is catfish so that's a plus ( ain't eating them from Crabtree either).
If you're not eating them, and it is polluted, I hope you are throwing them back for other folks to enjoy catch and release.

Mom loved carp.

Every time we went fishing, if any of us kids caught a carp we'd brain it with a stick or rock and toss it back just to make sure Mom wouldn't catch it again later.

I wish this were me!!! Unfortunately, my shoulder Dr says I’m still not to the point I should be slinging lures or hoisting fish or I would be out there slaying these….

They are slaying the wahoo out of Atlantic Beach right now.

@Bigdave0924 how’s the bite down your way?

I haven't heard of anything great down this way but the wind wont stop blowing. The guy i mate for just had back surgery so he's out for a little while and the boat i run is getting the floor cut out of it tomorrow morning. In other words I haven't been fishing in a while. I am itching to go the moon was right for wahoo Tues Wed and Thurs. Hopefully I'll catch the next moon cycle.

Oh man… that is a monster size reef donkey right there! How long did it take get that up? Did you submit for a citation?
It took four people to get it him up and about 45 min of pushing the tackle to its limit. It ate a small jig tied to a 8000 sized spinning reel. The chick that reeled on it got the citation for it.

I’ve never been much of a crappie fisherman prior. Was bass in fresh and sturgeon, salmon Striper and lingcod in the salt.

But just last week I bought a couple 10’ rods w/reel a couple packs of jigs.
And can hardly wait to get out and try it.
Maybe weekend after next.

These warm spells do have them on the move, preparing for the spawn. Good luck!!

Crappie in my opinion is one of the best eating fish there ever has been. So flaky and so delicious.
